Ok! See now we are talking. Everyone is lauding this episode but the questioning, some of it is not productive. Asking where have you gone where you had to watch out for your wallet? Listen! Folks this entire conversation is a serious conversation and should be of concern to all of the Diaspora who is going to have to flee here when the West finds it convenient and appropriate to put their foot down as before. Africa is the only home that melanated people truly have. We should not wish to return to a continent where the colonized mind and mindset is not seen as abhorrent.
The real questions we should be asking and bringing to the awareness of our people are why we are are not ALLOWED to have a military. If we are dependent on foreign governments or the UN to protect, what real stance or power do we have. When will you all realize that righteousness must prevail and that maybe the govts do not have the gall or power to throw our colonialist education systems you are still teaching African children in 2023?? You will not be at a loss for curriculum and expertise if the Intellectualts and pragmatist of both the continent and the Diaspora come together. There are things that can be implemented. The Lebanese and Chinese treating your own with disgrace &?disgust? Of course, if you give a greater hand to foreign governments to fund infrastructure, you are not going to have the ability to stand up to them for fear they retreat. They need to retreat. We have to value what the Most High gave us. We can only do it together and not divided. Rid the continent of the vestiges of colonialism and teach people about themselves!

Frankly the African continent is very frustrating. Why is such a rich continent so poor and are such beggars? Why can’t they even have good roads? Why are so many countries in Africa still so backwards. What is the government doing for its people…where are all the diamonds, gold, oil, cobolt, all the minerals? We as black people have a problem, we are also very cruel and wicked towards each other . We keep deleting each other. From the days of slavery until now we have and continue to be wicked. The truth is the truth. We must find a way to change.

I have been asking myself the same question. However, recently I picked up a book called “Why Nations Fail” reading it provided me some understanding as to what happened to Africa and why many of its nations are so far behind nations in Europe and North America. But even today there is still slavery there:
Sadiq al-Mahdi, former prime minister of Sudan, would agree. On March 24, 1999, he wrote to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mary Robinson, that “the traditional concept of JIHAD does allow slavery as a by-product.”11 And so slavery persists to this day in some areas of the Islamic world. The BBC reported in December 2008 that “strong evidence has emerged of children and adults being used as slaves in Sudan’s Darfur region”-where a jihad rages today.12 Mauritanian human rights activist Boubakar Messaoud asserted in 2004 that in that country, people are born and bred as slaves: “A Mauritanian slave, whose parents and grandparents before him were slaves, doesn’t need chains. He has been brought up as a domesticated animal.”13 Three years later, nothing had changed. Messaoud explained in March 2007, “It’s like having sheep or goats. If a woman is a slave, her descendants are slaves.”14 Likewise in Niger, which formally abolished slavery only in 2003, slavery is a long-standing practice. Journalist and anti-slavery activist Souleymane Cisse explained that even Western colonial governments did nothing to halt the practice: “The colonial rulers preferred to ignore it because they wanted to co-operate with the aristocracy who kept these slaves.”15 Islamic slavery has not been unknown even in the United States. When the Saudi national Homaidan Al-Turki was imprisoned for holding a woman as a slave in Colorado, he complained that “the state has criminalized these basic Muslim behaviors. Attacking traditional Muslim behaviors was the focal point of the prosecution.”16 Where did he get the idea that slavery was a “traditional Muslim behavior”? From the Koran. Slavery: it’s in the Koran. And if it’s in the Koran, it is unquestionably right.”

I love the reasoning family. I agree whole heartedly that begging is endemic. However, this behavior was thought. Being in Africa and knowing Jamaica, I see the mindset lack and becoming a "Lacky". I think in some aspects Marketing is begging(trying to convince me to buy useless things). The ladies tell the truth that the credit system encourages the slackness. I've died on the vine many times because I'm too proud to ask for help. This is because I am "too proud to beg". I have since learned that self-sufficiency is still possible with a team (symbiotic relationships). All African children should be thought this and money management. Bigup Fam!!

The begging culture is an African diaspora problem. Here in the U.S. it's the same thing. That, "When one of us has made it, all of us have made it," mentality. I can't even count how many times I've had to say no over the years because people see the things I have and try to count my money to determine if I'm able to help them out. My husband is from Haiti, and he says that when he goes home, it's expected of him to have money to give. We, globally, have to do better.

I wouldn't say begging never happens, but I don't see it as the norm here in the US, but I have worked with Africans and West Indians who've told me they cannot afford to go home because they have to buy presents for everyone.

I am impressed by Agaba's willingness to call out the beggar mentality. Truth is the way.
As his Mumbai story reveals, the problem is not only in Africa. As an American traveler who likes to walk, I am "the" target in nearly every continent I visit.
There is nothing new under the sun. Every problem has ocurred somewhere else and/or at some other time.
In this kernal of truth lies the solution.
Others have been challenged by the same problem. Some overcame the challenge, and others failed.
There is no reason Africans cannot learn from the mistakes and victories of others.
With the changing world demographics, and the abundance of African children, now is the time for Africa to get it right.
So, teach your children well, and don't let your golden moment slip away.

@@mrshonourableABSOLUTELY!!! This is a real question that I have. When I hear Africans talk about the African Union, I am thoroughly confused as to how they believe this to be a real institution. The very people from the East who are making inroads to populate the continent with their own people in droves by 2025, built the AU headquarters and bugged the place. There is no conversation in there that is probably not monitored and on to add further insult, that your parent institution is the EU. Are people mad?? We need to stop the madness- all this validation and clout seeking is going to have the continent entangled in their agenda for us and never an agenda for ourselves. There is nothing that can come out of the AU that isn’t going to have to pass the vetting of the EU to execute. Complete & utter nonsense.

Child abuse is number one, there's too many quiet, shy young people, and i love seeing a child or teen that's bold and loud in Africa. I know a lot of subscribers on this channel haven't been to Africa, it's not everyone in Africa that treat their children like this. I've spoken with Nigerians in nigeria, and a lot of people don't agree with children being treated this way.
My first time in Nigeria(Africa) as an adult, I was surprised by how many extremely grown adults asked and begged me for money. It happens pretty much everywhere you go. And im a nice person, so it was hard to say no so i said yes about 30 percent of the time, especially in the beginning. Having access to credit is a huge advantage, whether you use it or not, just to know it's there when an emergency happens. Otherwise our entire lives would literally BLOW UP often and we would be perpetual beggars as well. Even college kids start off with $300/$500 credit cards. My ppl need a "chance" we all do. Also the black mind isn't very different I see, the begging is everywhere even when jobs are plentiful in the west. Begging while not working in the West is insane to me. You could be on top but the moment you incur an unexpected expense (car repair/appliance/medical) your world would crumble-credit is necessary for the non wealthy (in expensive societies). Credit is a form of indirect begging as well if you think about it 😅.
Great panel and discussion as always! ❤

The unification will not happen if there’s no grassroots revolution. We need a strong man who can take risk and lead. Africa uniting without having control over our own natural resources is absurd. The leader has to start from their own country , change the way we do business. For example, all foreign own companies should be taken over by the government. How is it fair that a country like Ghana on has only 6% stake In Ashanti goldfields. The government should slash all agreements and take our natural resources back. We need to be that bold and move forward. The same governments we work with are the same governments who are aware of our situations. It is a colonial legacy inherited from their ancestors . They are committed to keep Africa that way.
This is also important and I know religion is killing African people. It is an indoctrination. As a matter of fact, it is the reason why we are so docile. QUIT RELIGION. There’s no proof God did anything at all before slave and after slavery. The number of micro churches and mosques in Africa is staggering. And y’all in Africa have to stop worshipping people who don’t look like you. They are not special but they have solidarity. We as black peoples don’t have solidarity and that’s our weakness and religion did that. We have to have that feeling of oneness and be sure we understand that , we are making a down payment for future generations to thrive. Instead of fighting white nationalism why don’t we have black nationalism. We have to stop begging people to stop what they do but instead do what we got to do.

Absolutely facts! Much better situation by degrees on that note pre- colonization. What I think people also don’t see is that the economic greed and consumerism that was a consequence of western colonialism and the eventual advancement of the very nations that were built by those stolen from the continent, became the main catalyst for this vagrant behavior. No one had any issues dividing labor and working the land to sustain themselves. The lust of the eyes and greed for quickly disposable and depreciative things became the envy. Now you have to convince young people whose arable land lies fertile, that farming is a noble exploit. 👀👀 you would rather beg/ starve than put your hand to the plow?? Something is seriously wrong with our perspective. Yahweh has given us the best of the land on the planet. We cannot continue to sell our birthright. Enough is enough!

Correction, Geopolital relations is not begging. Even in the old kingdom times, we needed to have partnerships with others for economic and military purpose. Your position in the world is judged on who your friends are (Even the US has friends called NATO). Now to say its in our DNA to beg in africa is not a fair analysis, that's a lazy thinking. We are in this poor positions as a continent because of our political history and other various factors. We import more because of global corporations and the neoliberal policies we are under. We are in debt traps because of how world bank is conducting business with Africa, hence we now see China as a better partners outside the continent. China needs Africa just as Africa need China. Even Russia, hence BRICKS was formed otherwise we are going to be slaves to NATO. Let's have constructive analysis especially when it comes to political and cultural topics. Have expects involved, i don't know accessible are your academics in Uganda but involve black conscious young academics. Your platform is needed, and you are well positioned. Take advantage of that to invigorate young Africans.

    • @camillainsonshine
      @camillainsonshine Před 11 měsíci +1

@kemmoneR I have to agree with you here. 💯 This platform can be used better. We don’t mind hearing the opinions of others but this really needs to be a conversation that has critical teeth and the capability of bringing understandings that we assume African people understand. Even Diasporans gave their own reckoning to deal with understanding colonialism and neocolonialism in general but the only way the continent of Africa and the Diaspora can have one voice against their enemies is to actually understand the belly of the beast. Right understanding and critical analysis of these geopolitical realities, will allow Africans to know and understand how to strategize on the ground. We can start first by at least agreeing on initiatives to feed ourselves on the continent. But honestly without collaborating and bringing continentals up to speed and igniting some level of responsibility in the Diaspora filling these knowledge and technical, strategic gaps as a unified understanding?? All of this will just be pillow talk and giggles on couches. We have to do better collectively! For real For real!

My people please know the best leader has nothing to do with those things we can see with our eyes. But as it written “try the tree by the fruit it brings forth “Matt. 7:16-20. Age, size, height nor beauty or the lack of determines what is good or what is corrupt. The treasures of the heart will reveal the truth of us all. How many people would look at those who are rich and judge them to be blessed of GOD because of appearances. Then look at a man such as Lazarus and see him as being cursed by GOD his appearance being his body covered with sores and flesh falling off. Yet the rich man went to Hell and Lazarus to Heaven in the arms of angels to Abraham’s bosom (Luke 16:19-29). Those in Parliament need to make a resolution/decree that any leader that betrays the people he serves through leadership for self gain or taking part in any corrupt activities should be cut down like the corrupt tree with corrupt fruit. The corrupt tree causes the people to suffer and doesn’t serve it’s purpose to bless the people with what they need.!!!

@dowa8940 to Yahweh be the glory! 1000% agreed. The Israelites went into slavery for their wickedness. List, self gain, power, pride-- they were in and out of slavery over their debauchery, neglecting the poor and widows. If we don’t choose to reign in righteousness, nothing good can come out of what we put our hands to. What the continent and us in the Diaspora are experiencing are the consequence of sin and until we turn from our wicked ways, we are going to bare the brunt of what we have condoned and allowed to proliferate under our governance. When will we understand that calling on the name of Yah, humbling ourselves and walking away from wickedness is our only redemption from this situation? Wake up and stop sleeping!
