- *POLAND: I booked myself a journey on Poland’s fastest train: the Express Intercity Premium (PKP EIP Pendolino). However, as you’ll see in the video, the Polish train journey didn’t exactly go as planned.

"Not exactly Christmas" 😂 At least the train attendants acknowledged that you had paid for a more premium train. Great video once again !
Thanks. Yes, most train companies wouldn't care and just tell you to call customer service.
Just a little correction. The Polish version of ED250 Pendolino does not have the tilting mechanism. Not sure why a non-tilting Pendolino was chosen, but I guess the lines on which it's running don't have many sharp turns that would require it.
Interesting, thanks.
It doesn't have tilting mechanism, because the main railway between Warsaw and Katowice/Krakow is very straight. Tilting would give tiny advantage.
@@stomil Exactly. And it's an extra point of failure as well as added weight. Tilting technology is actually a very niche product applicable to very specific situations.
@@stomil How the Pendolino was chosen is beautifully shown in the film "Drogówka" directed by Smarzowski :)
Correction to your statement about Pendolino - Polish PKP purchased sets WITHOUT tilting technology installed. They determined that the added cost and maintenance were not worth time savings on those routes designated for them. Also although they are approved up to 250 km/h, their current maximum speed is 200 and only on select, rather limited length stretches of tracks, due to lack of infrastructure supporting higher speeds.
1:00 That's actually the longest block in Warsaw, built in 1960's to cover the neglected social housing flats from the eyes of long-distance and international trains passengers, exiting the station by the newly built Kijowska's street concourse. Thankfully, things took a slow turn for the better and there are ongoing building renovations on the parallel Kawęczyńska street.
this was a wonderful vid. I do not speak for PKP but please understand that when you buy a ticket it is a contract with the rail provider. They reserve the right to change times and equipment without notice. The train you were riding on was very good and the food from what I hear is very good for railroad food.
EIP Pendolino will show its true value, once the Central Railway (CMK) will be upgraded to support speeds of 250kph. This upgrade is currently happening, hence your stop in the middle of nowhere probably.
Makes sense, as right now it isn't much faster than the regular InterCity. Once it can do 200 km/h plus consistently, it will do this journey in a lot less than 2 hours.
Great video! To be fair, that train looked fantastic - even though it wasn't the one you originally booked.
Thanks, yes, it was a great train overall.
Interesting, unexpected trip you had. The train not as modern as Pendolino, but looked clean and comfortable. You had niece conversation and one my favorite polish soups. Yummy 😀 Surprises make life more beautiful.
Thanks! Yes it was a nice and unexpected journey.
EIC costs 149 PLN and EIP 169, and the difference in speed is negligible. IC and TLK are slower (time depends on the route: through CMK but with more stops than EIC, or through Radom/Kielce) but they also cost much less - around 70-80PLN
Maybe take the Pendolino back to Warsaw the next time you're in Poland. Given you got a great meal, only 10 minute late and a voucher, I'd say it wasn't too bad.
Yeah, I'll have to ride it in the future.
Pendolinos can do 250 except they can't because the infrastructure does not support it (except that one line which was supposed to be upgraded but when it will be finished god only knows).
I tell people not to go to Warsaw and they dont listen.
PKP is like the most unreliable transport company
