Nice podcast guys! I am not a parent but from my observation, here is what I have to say for parents navigating parenthood in the US as a black immigrant. Try to stay married if you can, because single parent household isnt ideal for kids. in addtion
1. Self-Improvement and Language Skills: Learning English can indeed strengthen your bond with your child and help you navigate and assimilate into American culture better. Communication is key in any relationship, especially between parent and child. It will make it easy for the kid to take you as a role model
2.Financial Stability and Neighborhoods: Improving yourself can lead to better job opportunities and income, which in turn can afford you the ability to live in safer neighborhoods with better school districts. This can significantly impact your child's educational opportunities and social environment.
3. Keeping Children Busy and Cultural Perspective: As Micky and Tame said making kids busy, especially during long breaks like summer, is important to keep them away from negative influences. I belive kids should spend thier summer breaks back home in Ethiopia, I know you think it is unsafe/harsh for a kid born here, but i think we grew up there, came here as an adult and we are doing good. Nothing is going to happen to them, in fact they will have a different perspective of life, develop a strong sense of self/ less identity crisis, relate with you better, and appriciate the good life/opportunities you (or the US) provided them with and learn the language too

I hope his family will come out and teach other habesha parents how to prevent their children from going down the same path. Because for their son, it’s over. Game over. According to his social media account he has shown few guns with large count of magazine and the statement the father gave “ I didn’t know he has access to gun” I am sure social media account is probably down now since, it’s evidence that can be used against him! I am sure the persecutors will request the digital foot print! His parent were able to post bail $500,000 that is why now it’s set up to $2,000,000. So something about this story doesn’t add up!
