    Loose Leash Walking: • How to teach a dog to ...
    Teaching Shiba Inu To Heel: • Teaching Shiba Inu To ...
    Today I am going over a video from American Standard Dog Training failing to teach the simplest of behaviors with a 16 WEEK OLD Cane Corso.
    I will be giving my point of view on the methods being used, as well as giving the animal(s) in this video a voice. Don't blindly follow what someone says, even if they are a "professional", use your own critical thinking skills and question the tools, the method, and the trainers.
    I am using all footage under the Fair Use Act for criticism and educational purposes, and do not wish for anyone to send hateful messages to the original poster. I hope to spread awareness about this type of unnecessary and dangerous practice that is so prevalent in the dog training world and horsey world, and to give these animals a better life. Let me know what you think of it, and what you would like to see next time! Until then, practice Patience, Peace, and Pawsitivity! :3

    This guy is ridiculously arrogant which is not warranted by the extreme lack of skill he has. Anyone who has to put a prong collar on a puppy has no business calling themselves a dog trainer. I’ve seen him use an ecollar on a golden puppy as well. He’s a hack and should not be allowed around dogs. Thanks for highlighting how unskilled he is.

      he uses prong and ecollar on every single dog he trains. even on miniature poodles. like, I get his reasoning, he is an absolute fan of these tools, but most dogs he trains in his videos don't even have serious behavioral issues. all of those dogs could be simply trained with positive reinforcement.

      Seeing guys like these with treat pouches is abnormal. They put them on like toolbelts with treats in front of their privates. Not safe, plus they don't reward with a treat or a positive cue. It is all for show so they can prove they are 'balanced' . Nope! No clue, only archaic methods.

      He is abusive and should be reported

    Love your point about simply talking to your dog. These internet "trainers" aren't devoting their attention or their voice to the dogs and have no reason to expect that these dogs devote their attention to them. Especially when they're literally not going anywhere or making themselves interesting in any way.

    Two things I'd like to add. Yes, he is sadist for sure, but I've seen enough of his videos to defend him to _some_ extent. Even though he never gives treats when he teaches loose leash walking, he is very generous in other obedience exercises, so I wouldn't say that the pouch and the clicker is just for show. I've seen some pretty decent material from him when he only used positive reinforcement. Doesn't excuse him at all, I just wanted to emphasize this because there are much worse trainers out there, in my opinion, who actually never use treats. (As a matter of fact, I've noticed earlier that Garret has this reflex whenever he gives a treat to a dog, he instantly wipes his hand on the back/side of his pants, I think you can even see this video too. So obviously he gives enough treats to have developed this reflex.)
    Second, this type of training is truly irritating to me, because as you point it out, he doesn't mark behavior that is slightly desirable, he only accepts perfect behavior, and nothing less. (Again, usually only when he teaches loose leash. He uses shaping in obedience otherwise.) Which is like, especially with a puppy, not very fair, not at all. Surely, it makes better before-after videos, but the whole "oh my god this walk is a disaster because the dog never heels on one side" is such a made-up problem. Heeling and walking loose leash are 2 completely different things.

    In the dog trainer course I'm taking in Germany, they have this exercise😂 where the students have to use only a clicker to teach another student some random thing (like spinning around etc). People experience how hard it is to train that way and its great fun. Imagine these trainers would have to go through a similar exercise where other students randomly yank on a prong collar or shock them, prodd them, knee them in the chest or restrain them. It should be mandatory to have someone do that to you before using these methods and tools as training.

      OMG that's amazing! I would love to see them try! 🤣 What a great exercise for the students!

    This hurts to see as this puppy is so eager to please with a soft, easy to train personality and offering a focus all by herself, something many owners struggle with despite good training. And this guy just teaches her to ignore him... oh well.
    The most incompetent people always have the biggest egos. Dunning Kruger effect I assume 🤦🏼‍♀️

    19:00 (ish) I think he added a martingale. She was already wearing a prong.
    (I could be mistaken, because my screen is tiny.)
    Edit: Aw, I’m sorry about your little squishy. He was a cutie.

      I'll have to take a look at it to see what collar she is wearing in the beginning ☝️ Thank you, he sure was a great teacher and I dream about him often! ❤️❤️

    This guy is atrocious, a classic narcissist and extrememly heavy handed with his corrections, and SUSTAINED corrections. The sun will make this dog hot and tired faster....less willing to 'train'. Being rough with them teaches them to be rough. This is baiting, not 'training'. Digusting. The owner of this sweet baby should get it vetted for damage to the esophagus/thyroid and then SUE! All on video.

  • @TeslaNick2

    Garret has repeatedly stated he's not happy unless the dog yelps when corrected. He's a nasty a-hole.

    so i agree that this guy is pretty dumb with what hes doing in the video. he shouldnt be putting a prong collar on that puppy at all. but prong collars and e collars arent evil tools unless people use them in an evil way like this guy did.

    • @K9Tay
      @K9Tay  Před 5 měsíci +3

      Thank you for the input, evil is a strong word, and I will say they are certainly unnecessary. In my opinion, they are still cruel, so we will have to agree to disagree. But I respect you having your own opinion 😁 my goal isn't to change the mind of my viewers to think like me, but rather to learn how the training methods and tools really work. From there they can make their own decisions. 🐺

    OK I make my dogs walk by my side one reason only is that I don't want a person trying to touch them or them trying to eat something they should not be and my dog is super nevers and I can't give treats to her and him

    • @K9Tay
      @K9Tay  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thats a perfectly valid reason and I respect you for keeping your pups safe! I mainly comment on keeping dogs at our sides for the over controlling people, but you do whatever works best for you and your pup! 🐺❤️

    When he makes her yelp and she becomes more animated (tail wagging, running around) is that due to her cortisol going up? Can't put my finger on it but it reminded me of some aggressive wolf behavior I've seen, very troubling

    • @K9Tay
      @K9Tay  Před 5 měsíci +1

      That's an interesting point 🤔 I would think she's trying to appease him to avoid more corrections. Maybe it's just a natural reaction for her 😥
