  • Sagrenti War - 3 British forces and 1 Asante warrior died
Originally called the "Sir Garnet Wolseley War", the Sagrenti War happened between 1873 to 1874 between the Asantes and the British Empire. An army under Sir Garnet Wolseley crossed the Pra River into the Asante territory.
The war was named after the British commander Sir Garnet but was corrupted into “Sagrenti War". The British force, this time proved too strong for the Asante who, after a long and tough fight, agreed to sign a peace treaty at Fomena. There were three killed and 165 wounded British forces, one killed and 29 Asante troops wounded.
At about the same time the British defeated the Anlo people in the Volta area. On the 12th of September, 1874, the whole of Southern Ghana including Anloland became a British colony.

I now understand the hate "Asanti firi tete mpa" Who has ever heard of the name "Sargrenti war" if not this year😢so all these happen and were not taught in school I think our educational system needs to look at how we only thought of some people's war and forgot ours..😢Long live Asanteman! N Long live Ghana.

We read history in school but the pndc era brought the JSS/SSS system eradicated history and geography in schools that’s why the youth of today don’t know anything about Ghana history. That is why people like Dormahene and some crooked historians are distorting the history of Ghana. In our time “Form 1-4 every school leaver knew about the history of every tribe in Ghana and Africa.

Onua how does re-enacting a historical fact cause problem? Let's celebrate what we have and hold it in high esteem. If our forebearers were fearless, why should we be afraid now? Remember that some died for our freedoms today so don't be afraid to celebrate the blood that gave you freedom and a proud heritage.

I get your point but the part where the colonial master said "wonderful!" and the fantes and akyems run because they were illiterate for me was a bit extreme. Especially in the context that dormahene has complained about how asantes protray his ancestors in their praise singing to asantehene. I.e. that asantehene killed dorma kusi. I feel like this play rechoing the fact that fantes and akyems betrayed or snitched the asantes may get to their chiefs. U know how the traditional climate is in terms of cohesion. I hope u get my point
