Buying a car in the UK if you don’t have credit history can be quite a challenge. And this is the situation you will face if you are moving to the UK from India. When you move to the UK, you can consider both used and new cars but bear in mind that if you want to opt for financing or get a car loan, you would require a credit history of 3 years in the United Kingdom. But most folks who move to the UK don’t have a credit history. How then do you buy a car in the UK?
In this video, I break down how you can buy a car in the UK on finance with or without a credit history, what to keep in mind about buying a car in the UK, what mistakes to avoid when it comes to buying a car in the UK and which brands to consider.

Major misrepresentation at start of the video. You actually CAN by a car in the UK regardless of who you are, if you buy in cash. £1000 will get you an ok car which will easily last you a couple of years.

Can you please mention which dealerships you talked to that were willing to provide financing options to individuals with little credit history?
Hi Ashika, based on my experience, car finance is very difficult if one is a UK resident with less than 3 years. Most credit brokers / banks will not entertain your application even if you have an excellent credit score and rest may offer you at an exorbitant APR of over 18%.

Thanks and good Information, I was in same situation as you and pretty much did the same stuff you guys did, though I got my used BMW with outright purchase because I got fed up as even PCP & HP were not the options as I had just joined my Job.
You actually didn't tell of what your video was supposed to be about? Which option did the dealer OK'ed for you? PCP or HP?
Because even these require a bit of bank/credit history, I was told to try after drawing at least 3 salaries (I couldn't wait 3 months🤣). I guess you had already drawn 3+ months of salary by then which gives you a FAIR credit score at the least.
In this case you could have gone for Company Car lease program with a Hybrid/Electric car which additionally gives you IT/BIK benefit, 0 road tax, new tyres, full annual service, Insurance renewal, change to new car every 3 years(just drop off the old and pick up new one).

Hey Heena, online. Don't bother calling agents.
Other information may be useful but you ou don't get car finance until you have 3 years location history. You also won't get car loans until you provide more than a year employment history. You can however buy with cash payment or based on personal agreement with seller but car financing won't be considered with meeting those criterion

Hey there, it really depends on whether you want to buy it outright or take it out on a lease. Lease might be challenging unless you have payslips from a few months. Outright shouldn't be a challenge.

Hi Sanghamitra, it was a very good decision. No challenges yet either with the purchase or with the usage post that. At a point, one of the lights stopped working cuz some bulb had burnt out and the company changed it themselves at no cost.

I tried a lot but not even a single company is giving credit. I had tried all the four brands that you mentioned. Please elaborate on how you dealed with dealer.

You can choose directly from the car showroom - pre approved used. VW usually gives it. Only 6 months pay slips are needed.
