Saw this video years ago and rediscovered it today. Holy cow, the nostalgia. Beautifully animated, funny, yet bittersweet-just like the game itself.
Quite honestly, I have rewatched this animation so much over the years (first time watching must've been like, 2015, 2016?? I dunno), every now and then it just pops up in my feed and I take a nice trip down memory lane.

I have first watched this video when I was 9 or 10 and with English not being my home language, this video really helped me understand the song a lot better. Every lyric was brought to life in a really charming and beautiful way and it moved me a lot back then. It’s really one of the cutest and most precious things I can remember from my childhood. I just wanted to say thank you for that. Thank you for the joy. Thank you for bringing me to tears... in a good way.

God portal 2 is such a good game. It genuinely gives me goosebumps when i hear the ending songs.
It's almost been 10 years to the day since I played this masterpiece of a game for the first time, and I've recently done a full playthrough of the game again. And here I am, coming back to this very nostalgic animation. You really did an amazing job, to the point where I don't think 13-year-old me could have appreciated all those years ago.
I hope that our enjoyment of both the animation and the game itself can stand up for yet another 10 years. Cheers.

I remember being in like 5th or 6th grade watching this and now I have a full time job with a nice little truck and am about to buy a motorcycle. I remember playing the heck out of Portal 2 with my friends and mainly my Dad. We beat co-op together and made lots of memories, and because of this I remember so much more. After beating everything Portal I got into an obsession with the franchise and this is one of the first things I found of it. Hope you're also doing well these days and hope you continue to do well. Its true that Chell's life will be short, since all the shit she was exposed to at Aperture's probably shortened her expected lifespan considerably (not to mention the injuries).
What injuries did she have? Canonically she didn’t die and aced all the tests

I love this song, because she's basically saying,( well in the best way a murder hobo robot can say) That she doesn't want you dead, she wants you to leave and move on, basically telling you to forget her and find something new, she wants you to live in a way she can't

I cried when I finished the game. How they managed to make a robot look emotionally and putting an heartbreaking plot twist that was so confusing you didn't know if chell was even a human or a character

yeah ahahah it was during a time where i tended to keep my media separated by some kind of categorization, idk.. and the channel i was using back then had a name that i considered too "edgy" for this project, so i just made a new one lmao (i was young when i made that first channel, don't look at me- /hide)
When you think about it, in this song, GLaDOS is probably feeling extra-guilty for basically trying to kill her daughter, but hides it as best as she can.

Coming back to this after years has me in literal tears, I remember finding this song probably when i was like six or seven? On my ipad and just singing along to it without even knowing where it was from or what this animation was about because I just loved how it sounded, I'm 17 now and now I'm literally crying and sobbing because I still know the words and it's so nostalgic, I finally watched the whole gameplay of portal 2 because I wanted to see how this song came to be and honestly it makes me cry even more knowing glaDOS hates you but at the same time can't understand why she misses you, from my understanding of the game, I'm still trying to understand it fully! But this song just brings back so many memories of me and my sister singing along to it on our bed and it just makes me tear up 🥲

What I've always loved about this song is the emotion it brings. It truly feels likes saying farewell to someone important you've known for your whole life, you can almost feel even though how unwilling GLaDOS is to let Chell go, she still has to do it for Chell's own good. Till this day I still don't know if the Chell Johnson theory (Chell being the daughter of Cave and Caroline) is correct but I would like to believe it's canon.
As much as we would want to believe I don't think so, from the little we know about Cave Johnson he was a bonehead I don't think he would be very interested in having children. I'm pretty sure a random scientist at Aperture probably adopted Chell.

I find far more fulfillment in the idea that GLaDOS (or, at least, caroline) fell in love with Chell over time. Makes far more sense to me, given the most substantial evidence for Chell being her child is Cara Mia Addio, which is very easy to interpret in a more romantic light when you remember that while 'bonita' means 'little girl'... it's also very frequently used as a romantic term, in the same vein as 'babe' or 'baby' in English.
Also, GLaDOS growing to love someone but being forced to let her go because it's mutually harmful for both parties and she loves Chell too much to subject her to it? Quite literally, GLaDOS loved Chell, so she let her go.
Far more emotional investing for me than "GLaDOS only cared because she remembered Chell was her daughter." Feels kinda hollow for me.

This is still to this day the best portal animation ive ever seen on CZcams. Its simplistic and minimalist but still wonderfully stylized and nicely animated. I remember watching this when i was a kid and loving it so much back then. The wave of nostalgia when i got this in my home page again was satisfying. Amazing job

This video is absolutely amazing. It oozes with love and personality. My favorite bit is when Chell is inching towards Glados and she takes the big step. Stuff like that isn't necessary but it makes the video feel so much more alive. Great work :)

Rewatching this after years is just *chefs kiss* perfection that aged like fine wine.
This song gets me well when I think about the lines, the line "they woke me up so I could live forever" is sad because she would be in the laboratory underground for eternity.
And according to a line near the start of portal "so I had to relive you killing me over and over" even if she gets destroyed she will still be processing the sight of the last 2 minutes of her life.
And then after wanting Chell dead for trying to kill her, now that she understood Chell after not having the itch to need to test she simply wanted to Chell to just leave
that only really happened cause GLaDos wasnt thoroughly destroyed, if the machine were to be broken beyond any hope of repair, it'd be just that; broken
