I would give "The Sponge who could fly" a scumbob rating. The main reason is the crowd. They feel criticize Spongebob for having dreams,even though they have dreams, and then they feel like Spongebob owes them favors. It's mean spirited and makes the crowd a bunch of hypocrites. Other than that, not many of the other episodes bother me. Maybe it's because they contain pizza and chocolate ;D

No.... they are totally in the wrong. Our main character even says so. They are the antagonists. Antagonists do bad things because the story needs drama. You aren't supposed to like them. The show even punishes them.

Guess this goes to show not EVERY pre-movie SpongeBob episode is good. People always rant over seasons 1-3 being perfect and 4-9 being crap, well that's not entirely true. Not ALL 1-3 episodes are good and not ALL 4-9 episodes are bad. I wish more people would understand that.
I personally like The Great Snail Race but I can see how it can be perceived as disturbing but Spongebob looking like an 80's basketball coach who pushes Gary too hard which climaxes as a homage to stock car racing is pretty great. The eyeballs blowing up are a little weird but they are meant to be tires in a sense (hence blowout) and then Gary is perfectly fine and Spongebob learns a valuable lesson and we get the amazing "And the winner is Rocky!" And Squidward isn't even tortured! And saying it's worse than the splinter is absurd IMO. A splinter and a massive amount of spewing puss will never be worse than a fun although not so lighthearted snail-stock car analogy.
I also like The Great Snail Race. I can see how Spongebob obviously pushing Gary too hard is mean-spirited and not funny. But that ending with the glorious moment of Rocky winning the race, then Squidward getting the trophy, the tortellini reference coming full circle, and then Sandy getting payback against Spongebob in the final seconds makes it a good episode for me
I always liked Club Spongebob. The only reason Suidward is getting torture is because he just HAD to show up Spongebob and Patrick while they were just trying to have some fun. (And in all fairness they TRIED to warn him!) But there was always one thing that irked me, even as a kid. When the ranger comes in at the end, he cuts a path through the forest with a machete. Why the hell didn't they follow that path to escape? Oh well. Just a minor nitpick in an otherwise awesome episode.
I remember when I was younger, I had heard about Spongebob Meets the Strangler, and like you, I had no idea why it hadn't aired... well, I had an idea, completely paranoid or not. 2003 was also around the same time fans, like myself, were begging Nickelodeon to bring back Invader Zim. The prevailing rumor on the internet was that it was canceled mid-season for being too dark and disgusting. Having seen this rumor as totally legit, and knowing how incredibly touchy parents and networks were about "murder death kill" and related words in a post-9/11 world, I quickly theorized that Spongebob Meets the Strangler would never air merely for alluding to the possibility of strangling. Hell, when it DID air, I was genuinely giddy about Nick even having the balls to acknowledge something with slightly darker subject matter. A little ironic that later seasons of Spongebob would far surpass the darkness of Spongebob Meets the Strangler, and even the grossout factor of Invader Zim :P .

I mostly agree with you, other than with the episode 'Born Again Krabs', which is one of my all-time favourites. My best gag in that episode is when Krabs rewinds back the movie, thus removing all trace of it from the customer's mind. It's also great to see Squidward stand up for SpongeBob for a change. So, yeah.

Episodes I disagree on: "Party Pooper Pants" - Meh to good episode! I don't know, it just really entertains me! It's got a lot of characters and some pretty funny jokes! I also just like the whole feel of the episode. Yeahhh, the spare key bit does bring it down a little bit, but I never even noticed that until it was brought up in the video. It's probably going to bug me now, though, thanks. xD I didn't find him mean-spirited, though, I felt like he really thought his party was falling apart because of the non-conformity, but he learns in the end. "The Great Snail Race" - Good episode! Yeah, Spongebob pushes Gary too far, but he greatly learns from his mistakes. Most of all though, I find the jokes hilarious! The shoulders gag, yes. xD And I love Rocky! "Born Again Krabs" - Good episode. Nahh, it's not all THAT funny, but something inside me likes it. The end where Mr. Krabs realizes his mistake also does make me kinda feel for him, despite the dick move that he pulled. "Pranks a Lot" - Good episode, one of my favorites of the season! On a side-note, I don't know why people are so against episodes where Squidward really gets it for no reason. I know nowadays the show is over-saturated, but when "Club Spongebob" aired, it wasn't as common, and if you knew Squidward's personality, you'd understand. The other characters are so unlikeable now, the newer ones are much harder to watch.

Party Pooper Pants is actually my second favorite episode of the entire show, only behind Band Geeks. Mostly because I TOTALY relate to Spongebob. I can't throw parties to save my life because I want to plan everything down to the second. I thought all the gags were hilarious, even though the Patchy segments felt lacking. To be fair, I've never really like the Patchy segments in any episodes.
Can You Spare A Dime is my fave episode of Spongebob ever! I loved the part where Spongebob was using them puppets as a TV show and the Tune "Tomfoolery" was playing in the background. So memorable!

Season 3 is my favorite. Chocolate With Nuts/MMBBV is my absolute favorite episode of the entire show. The Camping Episode is also tied at the top. The Sea Bear part kills me every time.
MMBBV was the best, because I read DC (still do) and could recognize every character they were parodying. The Quickster is The Flash, Captain Magma is Firestorm, The Elastic Waistband is Plastic Man and Elongated Man, and Miss Appear is Negative Woman (though she was obviously based on the Invisible Woman from Fantastic Four which I watched on Boomerang.)
Chocolate With Nuts is hands down my favorite SpongeBob episode of all time. Hell, I even say that taking Band Geeks and Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy III into consideration. It's just too funny.
Btw, The Great Snail Race was banned in Canada and because of that you don’t see Mid-Life Crustacean airing in Canada ( that’s the biggest reason I hate The Great Snail Race). The reason it’s banned is because of the abuse towards Gary (obvs), but they do air the clip from Just One Bite.

i actually remember that deleted scene from just one bite. i didn't remember what it was, but i just remember another scene before the patty vault. and i was like 1 and a half when that episode aired and i think i saw it a couple other times on dvds of season 3 that my friends had.
"The Paper" is even more of a Lost Episode than "Gary Takes a Bath" and "the Lost Episode" because it is rarely aired due to its sister episode "Valentines Day"

It does in fact say "my leg" when Spongebob is cramming the lid on the jar, although it's not the normal my leg it's more like a yell. For the record it's at approximately 9 minutes into Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy IV
THANK GOD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HATES THE GREAT SNAIL RACE! Not only is that episode horribly mean-spirited, but it has one of the most disturbing scenes in Spongebob history; Gary blowing up like some kind of race car, crashing into the wall, and the audience cheering afterward. What the heck?! Honestly, that scene is more disgusting than the toenail accident in HOUSE FANCY. What really bugs me is the fact that that scene seemingly parodied REAL-LIFE RACE CAR CRASHES! I swear to god, not only is this episode one of the worst from the early seasons, IMO, it's also one of the worst overall. (my 19th least favorite) The only thing that saves it from being on my Bottom Ten is Patrick's golden humor, as well as the ending. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who hates this episode.
Another fun fact for "Born again Krabs": in the german version Mr. Krabs says that he is Benjamin Blümchen to the flying dutchman. Benjamin Blümchen is a cartoon character, who is voiced by the same guy, who voices Mr. Krabs in Germany. :) I was curious, how that joke was in the english version and after seeing your video, I think the german one is better, it is just more random. XD
9:31 My guess as to why Mermaid Man's belt is purple in this episode is because SpongeBob wears it during the episode. The yellow color of the normal belt would clash with SpongeBob's body color, and the purple contrasts well, so I'm thinking that's why the editors had to change it just for this episode

I was excited to watch this because i knew that it was the season i was familiar with. But then you get to "Krabby Land" And i'm like "Uhh..." And then i remembered that when i was younger (still pretty young), we either only had/watched one of the 2 Season 3 DVDs. Great video regardless.
Club SpongeBob has always been my favorite episode. it has some of the most iconic gags and funniest animation, especially when the picnic table just falls out of the sky

For each season, if we divide the number of good episodes by the total number of episodes, we can calculate a score/rating out of 100 for each season. Here are the scores if we use the stats at 44:30 :(rounding to the nearest whole number for each) Season 1 = 37/41 = 90% Season 2 = 37/39 =95% Season 3 = 30/37 = 81% I thought this was an interesting thing to figure out. You can do your own scores for each season if your stats are different from those of the uploader.
I do love Patchy's reaction to the walk cycle though. At least it makes the walking have some sort of purpose. But in all fairness it does go on for too long.

But that ending with the glorious moment of Rocky winning the race, then Squidward getting the trophy, the tortellini reference coming full circle, and then Sandy getting payback against Spongebob in the final seconds makes it a good episode for me

I always liked Club Spongebob. The only reason Suidward is getting torture is because he just HAD to show up Spongebob and Patrick while they were just trying to have some fun. (And in all fairness they TRIED to warn him!) But there was always one thing that irked me, even as a kid. When the ranger comes in at the end, he cuts a path through the forest with a machete. Why the hell didn't they follow that path to escape? Oh well. Just a minor nitpick in an otherwise awesome episode.
To be fair they are pretty stupid characters.

I remember when I was younger, I had heard about Spongebob Meets the Strangler, and like you, I had no idea why it hadn't aired... well, I had an idea, completely paranoid or not.
2003 was also around the same time fans, like myself, were begging Nickelodeon to bring back Invader Zim. The prevailing rumor on the internet was that it was canceled mid-season for being too dark and disgusting. Having seen this rumor as totally legit, and knowing how incredibly touchy parents and networks were about "murder death kill" and related words in a post-9/11 world, I quickly theorized that Spongebob Meets the Strangler would never air merely for alluding to the possibility of strangling. Hell, when it DID air, I was genuinely giddy about Nick even having the balls to acknowledge something with slightly darker subject matter.
A little ironic that later seasons of Spongebob would far surpass the darkness of Spongebob Meets the Strangler, and even the grossout factor of Invader Zim :P .

Apparently, even in 2000, people on old SpongeBob fan sites wondered about Hooky and Mermaid Man/Barnacle Boy II as they didn't air until 2001.
It's nice going back in to time when 5 mehs and 2 scumbobs were considered "a lot of bad episodes".

I mostly agree with you, other than with the episode 'Born Again Krabs', which is one of my all-time favourites. My best gag in that episode is when Krabs rewinds back the movie, thus removing all trace of it from the customer's mind. It's also great to see Squidward stand up for SpongeBob for a change. So, yeah.

"Party Pooper Pants" - Meh to good episode! I don't know, it just really entertains me! It's got a lot of characters and some pretty funny jokes! I also just like the whole feel of the episode. Yeahhh, the spare key bit does bring it down a little bit, but I never even noticed that until it was brought up in the video. It's probably going to bug me now, though, thanks. xD I didn't find him mean-spirited, though, I felt like he really thought his party was falling apart because of the non-conformity, but he learns in the end.
"The Great Snail Race" - Good episode! Yeah, Spongebob pushes Gary too far, but he greatly learns from his mistakes. Most of all though, I find the jokes hilarious! The shoulders gag, yes. xD And I love Rocky!
"Born Again Krabs" - Good episode. Nahh, it's not all THAT funny, but something inside me likes it. The end where Mr. Krabs realizes his mistake also does make me kinda feel for him, despite the dick move that he pulled.
"Pranks a Lot" - Good episode, one of my favorites of the season!
On a side-note, I don't know why people are so against episodes where Squidward really gets it for no reason. I know nowadays the show is over-saturated, but when "Club Spongebob" aired, it wasn't as common, and if you knew Squidward's personality, you'd understand.
The other characters are so unlikeable now, the newer ones are much harder to watch.

Party Pooper Pants is actually my second favorite episode of the entire show, only behind Band Geeks. Mostly because I TOTALY relate to Spongebob. I can't throw parties to save my life because I want to plan everything down to the second.
I thought all the gags were hilarious, even though the Patchy segments felt lacking. To be fair, I've never really like the Patchy segments in any episodes.
Can You Spare A Dime is my fave episode of Spongebob ever! I loved the part where Spongebob was using them puppets as a TV show and the Tune "Tomfoolery" was playing in the background. So memorable!

Season 3 is my favorite. Chocolate With Nuts/MMBBV is my absolute favorite episode of the entire show. The Camping Episode is also tied at the top. The Sea Bear part kills me every time.
Season 3 is phenomenal
MMBBV was the best, because I read DC (still do) and could recognize every character they were parodying. The Quickster is The Flash, Captain Magma is Firestorm, The Elastic Waistband is Plastic Man and Elongated Man, and Miss Appear is Negative Woman (though she was obviously based on the Invisible Woman from Fantastic Four which I watched on Boomerang.)
In just one bite I love spongebob's smug face when he catches squidward out. XD

Btw, The Great Snail Race was banned in Canada and because of that you don’t see Mid-Life Crustacean airing in Canada ( that’s the biggest reason I hate The Great Snail Race).
The reason it’s banned is because of the abuse towards Gary (obvs), but they do air the clip from Just One Bite.

My guess is that the newer writers watched episodes like Club Spongebob and there for assumed that putting Squidward at the ass of your jokes always makes you funny.
I remember everyone in my class hating The Sponge Who Could Fly when it came out. Everyone was really disappointed that this was what they were hyping up all this time.
My class had the same thoughts! I thought it was funny, though, but I can see why they didn't like it.

THANK GOD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO HATES THE GREAT SNAIL RACE! Not only is that episode horribly mean-spirited, but it has one of the most disturbing scenes in Spongebob history; Gary blowing up like some kind of race car, crashing into the wall, and the audience cheering afterward. What the heck?! Honestly, that scene is more disgusting than the toenail accident in HOUSE FANCY. What really bugs me is the fact that that scene seemingly parodied REAL-LIFE RACE CAR CRASHES! I swear to god, not only is this episode one of the worst from the early seasons, IMO, it's also one of the worst overall. (my 19th least favorite) The only thing that saves it from being on my Bottom Ten is Patrick's golden humor, as well as the ending. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who hates this episode.
Another fun fact for "Born again Krabs": in the german version Mr. Krabs says that he is Benjamin Blümchen to the flying dutchman. Benjamin Blümchen is a cartoon character, who is voiced by the same guy, who voices Mr. Krabs in Germany. :)

9:31 My guess as to why Mermaid Man's belt is purple in this episode is because SpongeBob wears it during the episode. The yellow color of the normal belt would clash with SpongeBob's body color, and the purple contrasts well, so I'm thinking that's why the editors had to change it just for this episode
