Having started my journey across Central Asia by spending a week in the former capital city of Kazakhstan, Almaty, I booked a flight and travelled to Kyzylorda, a provincial town in central Kazakhstan. My plan was to travel Northwest to the Aral Sea, famously known as the sea that disappeared. However I unfortunately ended up getting sick for a few days, so I changed my plans last minute and booked a train ticket back East towards Shymkent and the Uzbek border.
Trains are my favourite mode of transport, allowing me to have personal interaction with locals. Join me as I take an 8-hour train journey alone across the arid Kazakh landscape.

ABOUT ME:
In 2013, I started my solo travel journey, leaving Indonesia in 2016 to become a full-time traveller and CZcams creator. My background in International Relations has fueled a profound interest in exploring different countries. My content focuses on exploring different cultures through the lens of a solo female traveller, aiming to capture real-life interactions and experiences.
My travels kicked off with a five-month trip across Asia, after which I moved to China in January 2017 to work as an English teacher-my first time living abroad. I left China in 2018 to fully commit to creating videos on CZcams, where I share my travels and the cultures I encounter.
Living nomadically since 2016, I settled in England in early 2022 after marrying my British husband, David. Now based in the UK, I continue to travel and share my adventures on CZcams.

Judging your first video, especially the interaction with locals on the train and outside, it seems, Kazakhs are warm people. That's absolutely a plus point for tourists.
It takes a bit of extra effort to break the ice with the Kazakh but once they open up, you'll be surprised by the warmth! Thanks so much for watching.
Thank you for a video
Tomorrow I start my trip to Kazakhstan.
Best regards from Poland 🇵🇱
👏🏻👏🏻
Kazakhstan is an amazing country.
Indeed, an underrated one!
Kyzylorda is a purely Kazakh speaking region in Kazakhstan, most people even don't speak Russian there.
Nice video! I’m half Indonesian and half Dutch from the Netherlands. I would love visit Kazakstan someday!
How nice! I am sure you'll enjoy visiting any countries in Central Asia. I highly recommend flying into Istanbul then to any of these major cities to enter the region. Best of luck!
Адриана я рада что ты была в моем родном городе в Кызылорде😍🤗❤
Спасибо большое за Ваш комментарий! Как приятно читать, что ты из Кызылорды. Люди в Кызылорде были очень добры ко мне.
Syifa never disappoints. She does an excellent job with camera angles, explanation and locals engagement. Of course, not forgetting that Kazakhstan is truly a beautiful country with very sweet people. Looking forward to watching more of her videos about different Kazakhstan cities and countryside.
Awww this is so very kind of you McCassy! Truly warms my heart reading your comment. Thank you so so much!
I agree! 😍
The most homely or people friendly train I have ever seen.
That's so nice to hear! Thanks a lot for watching.
Awesome video. Beautiful Kazakhstan. Thank you Syifa for taking us on this amazing journey.
Thank you so much Susanna for your lovely comment! x
I’m an introvert myself, I’ve seen/heard you in another video describe yourself the same way, so I can’t even begin to express how much I admire what you do.
What has worked miracles for me is football, either going to attend matches, or just wearing a football shirt. It’s a fantastic ice-breaker. The other day, in Bishkek, I went to watch a game of the local top division, unknown among unknowns, and by halftime I was talking to four guys (who spotted me, a foreigner) with several others “eavesdropping”. You get invited out, given tips, and generally have a simply “ok” experience turn into a “memorable” experience, all thanks to sharing moments with… total strangers.
Anyway… Enjoy the rest of your time in Central Asia!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! That's so very kind of you! What an amazzing experience in Bishkek. It's my favorite city in Central Asia and I find the kyrgyz to be really approachable. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Hi Syifa , thank you for choosing Central Asia for your travel vlog. Central Asia is very rich in history & culture. Hope you will show us all the historical cities in your next vlogs. Take care & best wishes 🥰
Thank you so much, Habibul! Central Asia has always been the region I planned to visit since 2018. Thanks for watching!
@@SyifaAdriana 🥰
The sleeper train looks exactly the same as taking the train from Austria to Croatia. Enjoyed seeing the trip.
I haven’t been to either one of them. Thank you so much for watching ☺️

Hi Syifa. Glad to watch your Silk Road first stop, Kazakhstan. It is so beautiful and the people is so friendly. I wish I can watch more of the Kazakhstan videos to see more about it. But, I hope the next destination you will be heading to will be so fascinating as well.
Hello Emanuel, thank you so much for your lovely comment! Yes, I intend to visit more areas in Kazakhstan and had been planning my itinerary along the way. However, due to Kazakhstan's massive size, time and financial constraints are my biggest challenges. So I had to be calculative in deciding my overland journey when in Central Asia. Thanks again for watching my video.
ahh, i love trains and your videos are so cozy and interesting, great to see you continuing to travel well despite sickness. sometimes the last minute changes we make for ourselves end up being totally worth it 😊

Thank you so much! I have a lot of family obligations since July so the editing work has been delayed. I am working with my husband to catch up with editing work. Thanks for watching!
You travel very similar to the way i do.
Its always about the people we meet, and the experiences we have with locals that we rarely find in a busy tourist location.
On another note, you can download a specific language to use offline, it has helped me on many occasions.
Enjoy your adventure!
I agree, the people we meet on the road makes the journey even more meaningful. I tend to avoid touristy locations as locals generally would sell something to tourists. Ah yes I completely forgot to download for offline use as I was so ocuppied planning the next move due to circumstances at the time this video was filmed. Thanks again for watching!
Hi. Nice to you back. Your videos bring joy and happiness to me . Thank you

Syifa's YT is expanding to the world's audience. The last time I noticed, she was a shy hijab posting videos in China. Now she is enjoying the experience of different cultures. Congrats. Road to 1M subs.
Aw thank you so much! Yes, so much has changed since that video. I no longer practice any religion and has embraced a more neutral approach in life, benefiting from the different cultures I learn along my journey. Thank you so much for your lovely comment!
Hi Syifa 🌹 lovely description of traveling _ train journey Kazakhstan 🇰🇿.
in Kazakh language thank you - like rahmet
Kazakh word for thanking is "rakhmet" ("рахмет" in cyrillic)
We are glad to see you again in you tube
Thank you so much
Hello Syifa, so nice to travel with you again.
I look forward to your travels in Uzbekistan. I was there in 2005 in Tashkent and then in Samarqand at the 'Sharq Taronalari' music festival - as always, to do with my music production job. That festival is end of August, beginning September.
I'm looking forward to hearing your impressions of the country, and also to see what the country looks like now. Have a lovely time in Uzbekistan!
Hello Diz, so lovely to see your comment again. How incredible! I can imagine that your music production job takes you everywhere, how incredible. I think I had 3 videos filmed in Uzbekistan, 1 more from the border crossing to Uzbekistan, 2 from Tajikistan and 1 from Kyrgyzstan. This was prefilmed back in April-May :-) Best wishes!
@@SyifaAdriana Great, thanks Syifa. I look forward to watching them. 😁👍
Thank you for touring me into the central Asia.. It fasinate me to see a wide plains view during your train ride. This is a rare scenery being an South East Asian Filipino living in an archipelago. @@SyifaAdriana Oh wow! So Thailand video is coming? I live in Bangkok 😊 I hope you're having fun in Chiang Mai right now.
No unfortunately, I am not going to film any videos here and chose CM as our base for the month before heading to Japan. I am with Dave only to live and do our work :D Thank you so much for your kind comment, Carrie! @@carriejiramuny7051

A great and interesting country geographically and culturally. You had a great trip, the train looks spacious and clean. People are nice, but the language barrier is always a problem. I have been waiting for this video, thank you Syifa for sharing and please if possible subtitle.
Thank you so much, Marin! This trip felt slightly easier as it was only 8 hour journey, which is shorter than what I am normally used to. Thank you again, I have added the Romanian subtitle for your convenience. 😊
Hello Syifa. I want to tell you that the subtitle does not come in. But it's okay. i understand english but sometimes i can confuse, i learned a lot of english from your videos, you speak clear english very easy to understand. Thank you I'm waiting for your next video, it's great Asia travel content. Have a wonderful weekend.
Lovely video Syifa!!! I love how you explain stuff and your interactions with people. Brilliant commentary! I'm from India and absolutely appreciate your content. I'm fairly new to your channel and trying cover your tours, though slowly. Please visit China someday. Would love to see the country through your lenses. Also, Cuba and Brazil!
Hello thanks so much for your comment! I used to live in China throghout 2017-2018. Thanks again for your kind support.
@@SyifaAdriana Thanks for replying. Yes, I read it in your bio that you taught in China. Still would love to see China through your lenses as a traveler!

Hello , Syifa Mam . Myself as a travel enthusiast & having born in Brunei took a deep interest when I happened to view UR travel episodes to Central Asian Countries as a Solo traveller. All Clips R very informative & useful for reference.
On my part I visited a few countries in S.E. Asia including Bali Island & Sri Lanka.
Aslo had the opportunity to make a visit to Moscow & then to St.Petersburg by *Sapsan * superfast train.
Once even made a trip to the Lakshadweep group of Islands off the West Coast of S. India in the Arabian Sea.
Wishing U all best in UR future travel endeavours.
NB : Currently am staying in a small State known as *God's Own Country* in S.India .
This is arul from India, it's really great to see your video. I would like to travel around but it's not happening right now. So I really love whose travel around the world.❤
Thank you, Arul! Wishing you the very best for your future travels. Take care of yourself!
Beautiful.
Blessings and safe travel,it'd be lovely if Dave accompany you on this trip! ❤😂
Thank you, Jeff! Dave would join some time in the Uzbekistan video. We were together for 4 weeks when I was in Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. The nature of his profession makes it a bit challenging to film with me whenever but we try to always be together.
Halo syifa. Its long time didnt see your travel video. Its nice n beautiful place. Thanks for the great video. Take care n bye syifa

Yo no cambiaria nada del canal. Muy interesantes los videos para todos los que nos gustan lugares poco conocidos, no tan turisticos de diferentes paises, algo que de otra forma nos seria imposible conocer. Saludos.
Fascinating 🎉
Thanks for watching Joe

Hi syifa,
Hi kazakh...❤
It's a luck to found yr video😊
I was just thinking about you yesterday - wondering when your next video from Central Asia would be released! I guess here's my answer 😅
Thank you so much for your patience. Hope you enjoy watching this video
@@SyifaAdriana great content!
Such a strong and beautiful would you are. Much love from Bhutan. Keep well
Hello again, Syifa. Thank you for another epic adventure. Sorry to hear you had some illness, along the way.
Having only visited Almaty, I was curious about the rest of Kazakhstan, so thank you for a glimpse into that area.
Hello Len, thanks again for your comment and recent PayPal donations. That's so sweet and generous of you. Yes I got sick due to exhaustion and stress as travel this way requires a healthy mind and body :-D I was in Central Asia for 9 weeks so that I had enough time visiting 4 countries I intend to see. If I were to have more time and money, I would've visited East Kazakhstan, the Altai mountains. However with my overlanding itinerary, it wouldn't make sense. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed watching this video 😊
I really enjoy all of your videos mbak. Keren-keren 😊
Thank you so much, Edo! I am glad.
kereeen. . liputan kota tua di england kak. .
Happy to see another video of Kazakhatan! Curious, what cameras do you use and what editing program do you prefer. Happy Travels! ~JB
Ah thank you so much, Justin and Leah. I list my filming equipment here: www.amazon.co.uk/shop/syifaadriana but mostly Sony A6600 & 16-55mm F2.8 with Go Pro 9 on this video. I always use a separate microphone; wireless and shotgun to enhance the audio. Editing program I used to use was Final Cut Pro but recently switched to DaVinci Resolve. Hope it helps!
Safiya smile is beautiful❤🎉😂
Syifa you are soul
I always dream of being a world traveler. And be a part of your audience is such an honor for me to stick with my next destination voyage. Hopefully. Terimakasih ka Syifa :)
Beautiful😍
Well done on another great video. It's great to see an asian female traveling alone in that part of the world.
It's good to see how you combat negative attention.
I love this train, the compartments seem a lot bigger than the UK sleeper trains. And 13 dollars is very cheap for what you get!
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! That's so kind and I am touched. Yes it is bigger than the UK sleeper trains as it generally accommodates 4 people for the 2nd class compartment. Indeed $13 is very affordable as trains are generally affordable means of transport in Central Asia. Highly recommend!
Terima kasih Syifa, saya rencana ingin ke Kazakhstan tahun depan❤
Best of luck and enjoy your travels!
Aku baru nemu channelnya kk, kayaknya aku akan menyukai perjalanan kk. Hati2 di jln ya kak.
Terima kasih
Buen video, nos has acercado la realidad de las comunicaciones, el paisaje no es muy varado. 😊

Very very thanks for your videos. They are very valuable.I invite you to visit Sri Lanka.
Thank you! I visited Sri Lanka in 2019 already and produced 18 travel videos.
Greetings from Bahrain...you inspire me. Are there local day tour agencies in kazakhstan and Uzbekistan as it quite daunting to cover all important sights for a solo traveller. Many thanks
Yes torist agensy.
Love from Nepal. ❤️💐👏👏👏👏🙏
Dhannyabad!
Salam dari indonesia 🇮🇩👍🙏
Thank you
omg u need to visit East Kazakhstan to Altai Nature PLS
I was actaully very intrigued to go to the Altai region but it wouldn't make sense for my border crossing journey.
Nice
I enjoyed watching your travel video. But I personally think that travelling in Indian railways will give your better expereinces though the trains , at least most of them are very crowded. Try trvelling on the newere High Speeed trains like the Vhande Bharatn from Delhi to any part of the country. You'll not only enjoy the food but the scenery as well.Come to Siliguri which is in North Bengala and carry on to Darjeeling or Sikkim.
Wah seperti ada cerita di kereta , membawakan sebuah cerita kereta adalah rumah kita, asal jangan merusaknya🙏.
