A good walkthrough
Quite frankly it looks better than Virgin who I used to fly a lot with in economy. They have really gone down and I certainly would think of flying Air China business class if I went to Australia.
I live in Australia my last 7 return flight to Europe I have done in A300-320 and A300-330 and Boeing 787, Economy Class with Air China and China Southern 100% satisfied

I’ve taken numerous international and domestic flights on Air China and other Chinese airlines. Level of service, especially to foreigners, is exceptional

Did you check in a bag? Were they strict with the checked bags and carry-on bags?
I didn't notice them being particularly strict (like most Asian airlines) but there's a lot of signage and warnings about overweight baggage.
What do you mean by strict? Carry-on wise, not strict on wide-body flights. Checked bags wise, 23KG I believe is the max, just like all other - you will have to pay for an overweight fee if it goes above that.
Checked bags is 2x23kg for every passenger + 7kg carry on
Didn’t look half as bad as the general Google reviews would have you believe. It’s economy and it’s cheap so not sure how much more I would be expecting. As long as the staff are nice and you get a few snacks thrown your way, then fair enough. The other thing to bear in mind is you’re traveling from Europe to China which in itself is quite a feat for most people with limited resources.
im transfering to bangkok throughbeijing. do i need to fill in lqnding card and departure card? is it simple there for transfering between flights?
Yes - for international transfers on the same ticket, all you need to do is go through the gates with your boarding pass and passport. It's very well signed. I don't think you have to fill in any arrival documentation if you're not actually entering China.
Sometimes Air China uses 15-year-old A330-200 on Euro flights, and those PTVs are extremely old, like Thai's 747-400 and British Airways non-refurbished 777-200ER.
Yes 🙌 That's what took me to Geneva. It's definitely one of their oldest products and I hope they refurbish it soon.

Noobie question: do most A330-300 aircraft offer 2-4-2 seating configurations?
Yes - the vast majority of A330s are 2-4-2 (8-abreast) economy. A small number of airlines have denser 3-3-3 (9-abreast) configurations.
@@mackerfly Thank you kindly. Feels like it's getting rare to coming across a 2-4-2 config flight these days. 3-3-3 feels more cramped and less convenient for non-aisle seaters to get out for a stretch or a trip to the lavatory.
3-3-3 doesn't sound bad at all. Most airlines cramp you in as 3-4-3 I believe on a 777 or 787. Unless you are flying Japan Airlines. @@ondreiii

Air China may offers great deal with "Europe - Southeast Asia or East Asia(exclude Air China's main hub)", the direct route flight's price is very bad, in my opinion.
This is true. CA has a very large market share for international flights from Capital which makes it easy for them to charge high prices for non-connecting passengers
For economy passengers currently, 1-2 hours less flight time and lower price is way nicer than those major European airlines. In comparison, a tiny bit more premium service is worth nothing considering those advantages.

interior look pretty dated, but food is good.
What was the duration of this flight? Everything looks like it went according to flight plan. Very smooth and actually coach class looks like a decent ride.

i had once with air china from BeiJing to Melbourne, feb 2023.
very very nice crew but really bad meal, super soft touch-down but really hard braking, for the first time ever, i felt the seat belt holding me back like when you have to brake hard in a car.
but 17:03 bad reputation, internationally?? i have never heard of but if it's political oriented, well, they are prob prepared to get banned anytime in the west, for the sake of national security.😅 but if it's annoying cabin config and meal, i don't think these would escalate to 'reputation'. 🤔 i can bring my own meal, snacks and instant drinks like bubble tea, they just need to put in hot water for me.
Absolutely, I think that CA crew are great but some planes are very very old/outdated. As for the negative perception/reputation, this might just be because of stereotypes of Chinese airlines/political reasons.

Chinese airlines are great until something goes wrong (weather, delay, etc) and you are stuck in a Chinese airport for days and nobody wants to do their job.
