Episode 564. Steve Brown and Joey Cassata join us to talk about the new Ace Frehley album 10,000 Volts. So much discussed about how this new album happened and who was involved. What were the two things Ace insisted be on the album? Were other cover tunes discussed? Who wrote the songs? Who played on the album? The album production and recording process. What about another Ace Frehley Origins album? Oh yeah and are there any future plans for Steve’s band Tokyo Motor Fist?

It's 2024 and everyone is talking about a new Ace Frehley album. Life is good!!
About how crap it is.
That's what I did and your mom's mouth last night@Abefroman1812
@@timmyjamspretty much like your life huh?
I'm really impressed with Steve Brown, such an intelligent, hard working & passionate guy. I thank him for working to get the best out of Ace.
It`s a great album. And I`m pretty sure Steve has made most of it. To me, it sounds like a Steve Brown album with Ace in it. But it`s all good.
Love it! I'm biased what ACE put out though. I'm just glad he's successfully sober, having fun and doing what makes him happy. Can't wait for Origins Vol 3. I will continue to support the one and only true spACEman!!! Thanks to Steve Brown.
Sober? Lol What naive planet are you from?
Ace is at his best when pushed. 78 Solo...Comet debut...now this. Props to Steve Brown!!
Love the new album and can't believe how good this album has become! Thank You Steve Brown!!
43:57 Steve says 95% of the songwriting was him
Pretty obvious
Not Ace but himself.
The show we have been waiting for ever since the possibility arose!
Magnanimous musicians and contributors like Brown and Cassata deserve praise in bringing this project home.
"- I`m a master at producing. I make hit records." .. This guy is a little full of himself for being a nobody before this album. I get that he sees this opportunity as his big break as a producer very late in life, but calm down dude. It`s not a Steve Brown solo album.
I felt the same
I agree
Kind of interesting to hear somebody be so candid about songwriting .this is exactly what artist development used to be like at Lables in the 70s and early 80s like Chrysalis and Reprise.
But yeah, rock stars are supposed to pretend they don't know shit from shine-ola.
Brown is exhausting to listen to.
@halholbrookspussy If you were going into a studio to cut your album, wouldn't you want someone to say exactly what he is saying, though!
" I have been engineering for 20 years in my own studio, we are going to make the best album we possibly can"
he sounds motivated!
Steve Brown solo album with guest vocals and half the solos by Ace.
For sure!
Nah. After listening closely to the solos I`m pretty sure Ace plays on all of them except for Fighting For Life which it`s probably Steve doing all the guitars. That being said, this is very much a Steve Brown album with Ace on it. I foresee some drama in the near future between these two friends.
@eltoro6379
Ace does some, but he didn't play rhythm guitar and he only wrote one song. Lazy
Steve Brown is incredible. The guy is going to blow up as a producer and has his finger on the pulse of the rock algorithim. He just gets it and understands how to construct a great song and flow of an album.
Great interview!! One of the best I have ever seen for any rock podcast. Michael, Tommy and Lisa brought great energy and questions and i look forward to the rest of 2024 from three sides of the coin! Thanks guys and a gal!!
Sounds like Ace didn’t come up with any of his own riffs or music for this album!
As with all great albums, like early Kiss, Hotter than Hell, Destroyer, Dressed to Kill, Rock n Roll Over, ..solo albums, ....every recording include a great band, great artist and a great producer/engineer! And this album is exact what we could dream of. The BEST! A producer is also arranger together with the artist. Ace Nailed it! This is the album we wanted, and the sound is punchy and hot. Songs are hits.
It's just one more dream on the wish list ..... a reunion performance of Kiss with Ace, Gene, Paul and Peter would be nice...but 10000 volts with Ace make us totally satisfied and happy. Can't stop listen to it.
Not the album i wanted..woefully inadequate
Steve Brown reminds me of Lars Ulrich when voicing his opinion.
The album only came out 3 days ago. Today, I picked up my 8 year old daughter from school and she was singing 10,000 Volts. Then I’m driving her to piano lessons and she asked to hear Walking on the Moon and starts singing along to it.
When a 72 year old rock star puts out an album that has kids singing to it, you know he hit it out of the park.
My fav track is Fightin' for Life. That riff just hits you. I love the lyrics to this tune. I love this whole album. I have been listening since Sunday when I got it.
Yeah thats what Ace Frehley needed- The guy from Trixter to help him..good God. Where have the all talented musical minds gone..? This is where we've landed?
Ace needed someone like Steve to come along and help from the outside in songwriting and in production standpoints.
No response when Steve says Paul was lip syncing lol
Not the topic of the video, but we have addressed that MANY times. Have you ever listened?
@@MichaelBrandvold yes, I've watched every or part of every episode. Isn't it off topic every time Tommy mentions the band Garbage for no reason whatsoever?
😂😂@@PetesCDVinylWorld
@@PetesCDVinylWorldso if you have listened to every show you know exactly what each of us has said and how we feel. So why the problem now? As for Tommy, when was the last time he mentioned Garbage? Seems to me it has been quite a while. You know you will lose at trolling us, we are just better than you.
@MichaelBrandvold I'm not trolling., just giving my opinion, I actually think you're the best interviewer on the show, it should just be you and Mark of he feels like participating.
Very good album, but I can’t dig the way Steve talks. He must learn from the BK band guys. Way more talented and humble people.
Why didn’t anyone ask Steve why Ace didn’t play rhythm guitars?
Ace played all guitars and Bass on his last albums!
I can tell you before I knew it I knew it . Eather he can't play it or doesn't want to put in the time to learn. Hé was never a good rhytmguitarist Paul is and did that on Kiss albums. Many things he can't play.
just listen to Ace live now. He clearly doesn`t bother to practice and he is extremely lazy so I bet he thought it was fine Steve did all the guitars. I`m pretty sure this album will start some drama in the near future. I mean, come on.. This is basically a Steve Brown album Feat. Ace Frehley. When the hype calms down, Steve will probably get bitter for it. Just wait and seee.
A true Ace solo album would be one where he is in the studio and writes all the songs himself. Or at least a majority of every song is from Ace. The lyrics, the guitar, solos, the melody, the song ideas.
I knew as soon as I heard the tracks for 10,000 Volts that Ace OBVIOUSLY had a co-writer on the album. It would be obvious to anyone familiar with Ace's songwriting and its limitations. This was days before I actually heard an interview with Trixter guy and got confirmation.
Ace has been saying for months that Steve cowrote with him.
@@giraffesareselfish9563 Sorry, but I don't keep up with Ace. If the internet had been around when I was in fifth grade I would have.
@@termsofusepolice yet here you are with the rest of us "keeping up with Ace"...interesting.
@@giraffesareselfish9563 Uh... There's a big difference between checking out new Ace music when I see a post on Blabbermouth and searching for/listening to interviews with the guy. I had zero background on the recording of 10,000 Volts before I heard it.
I’d like to hear him reach out to Peter Criss to sing on the next Origins album.
Agreed!!!
Redo baby driver or strange ways
@@j.reveille6815 No, those songs are fine as is. I would say why not just include like one or two original tracks on an origins album and have Peter sing lead on one of them. Bands/artists do it all the time with covers albums.
I could hear Peter singing Stay With Me by Faces
I definitely like Dynasty Ace too. I remember listening to Dynasty one day and replaying the Ace tracks and thinking "I'd like to hear an entire album of stuff like this". Now Ace has finally done just that. Kudos Ace! Kudos Steve! Thank you:)
(If only there was a Steve Brown out there for Vinnie Vincent that could make him just shut up and play 😋)
Good work from Joey on the drums ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I really like the new stuff, Stratosphere & Cherry Medicine!
I love hearing Steve talk so frankly about this project... and Joey's comments are great as well.. Tommy's thought about Cheap Trick's He's A Whore is spot on. Great interview and discussion.
You must have watched three sides of flop.
#SteveBrown!! Congrats. You just lived out my dream of working with Ace and helping him make his best album since his 78' solo or Trouble Walking. ~ Please contact me. I have 7 complete "Ace like" songs already written and demo'd and a few solid ideas. ~ 10,000 VOLTS is his best album since Trouble Walking... BUT he can still make an even better album. ~ PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE CONTACT ME. Please. You gotta hear these songs. You're gonna love them. ~ "You got got a Nothin' to Lose!" #SteveBrown #AceSongs
I conceived my child to the new Ace Frehley album!!❤⚡
How can you even tell yet? The album has only been out for 3 days. Tests won’t show yet. Still, happy for you that you got laid. Hope it was a good one. 👍🏻
@@totallyfrozen I can feel it in my bones lol got me walkin on the moon
I would love to see video of Ace recording in studio!
All I care about it’s Ace singing and he sounds great and 10000 volts he sings at his concerts now he sounds great looks great .any artist that want to make a comeback should definitely call Steve brown
Mark does not look impressed in the least for the entirety of this interview.
I could be wrong, but I'm guessing he's being a team player, yet doesn't care for the album. Or he's not feeling well. I always wait for Mark's opinions. I'm 50 minutes in and nothing. I'll see next show. Again, I could be wrong.
Because it's not about Aucoin merch lol. Just kidding.
Tommy, you should sell me a copy of that photo behind you. It's Killer!
Steve Get Peter Criss to sing on origins 3
Perfect Strangers Deep Purple
Peter’s voice will sound amazing!
And Drum on another song!
Cmon guys , Lisa no one asked why Ace isn’t Playing rhythm guitar?
Why? Was Ace not capable?
Because he never shows up on time. Imagine leaving the majority of the work to Ace. Exactly.
Steve Brown album featuring Ace
So all the solos are Ace and rhythm guitar is Steve?
Another great episode, thank you guys 😊
Is 10,000 volts the correct voltage when Rachel fired up the "wonka stick" when playing nurse??
lol
Wendy Moore who wrote Into The Void with Ace Frehley said he liked a number of things shoved up his Input Jack.
@@timmyjams really? That's in her book? So it's worth sitting through? Since an audio version has been released via youtube
@@charlesbronson4282 Yeah! Her book is awesome. I got and read her second book as well. It is more about being in rehab from heroin. When Ace and her quit she met a guy that was a dragon chaser and she got hooked on it. She said she was straight until she met Ace and he got her hooked on Coke and pills. Surprise!
Does Steve have a lisp ?
This is such a great episode! Thanks for this one gang . Well done 🍻
"Fight for Life" has nothing to do with Ace Frehley, and it is clear that it was composed musically by Steve Brown, with lyrics by Ace, and has more to do with Motorhead's "Ace of Spades" than with Ace.
I love that Steve is so defiant about the record! What I’ve heard is great! Good on Steve and Ace and all involved!!! 🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿
THIS WILL BLOW UP REAL SOON!!!
New music and album. Awesome Ace. Still hope for Rock. Thank you. 👍😎
Into the night great cover
I ultimately don't care about vocal processing on the record but I gotta say that I find the "I don't use Auto-tune, so I don't need to go any further than that" comment to be adorable. The follow up question that any other musician familiar with recording software would ask would be "Oh, so was it Melodyne instead?". Auto-Tune is a specific plugin built by a specific company that does pitch-correction. Again, I don't care that the vocals are processed and tuned and I think the album is fun, I just find the lack of transparency about pitch-correction to be funny.
To be fair, he did admit to using pitch correction software (and rightfully compared it to every album released for years now). But yeah, he absolutely knows that the average non-musician music fan thinks all pitch correction is “Autotune”, and saying “I didn’t use Autotune” is intentionally misleading them.
I mean I liked anomaly and space invader wasn't too crazy about spaceman but it is what it is but I really love 10,000 volts kick ass album from start to finish
Battle of the bands soul station, Gene's new band, and Ace's new band would be interesting
You are all so wonderful guys. Keep it up ❤❤❤❤
Great and very informative video guys and gal. Steve has made a great Ace album!
Horribly written and produced album. So processed it doesn't even sound real. Sounds like it was created by AI and some of Ace's "vocals" definitely were.
AI, you are just clueless. AI was not used. Actually Ace sings about the dangers on AI on this album. Wake up.
@MichaelBrandvold LOL. OK fanboi rube. If you think 72 year old Ace Frehley actually sang the upper register parts on Fightin' For Life.....you're super duper extra clueless.
@ncmetalmusic
I think is sounds like shit
I love Your Love!!
I think Ace would do an interesting take on it
No toggle switch on any guitars why? That’s what’s missing.
Listen to the album about 10 times. Overall for me and I have all of Ace’s albums this is just ok. My favorites are
10,000 Volts
Cosmic Heart
Fightin’ For Life (By far the best)
Up In The Sky
I gotta say Cherry Medicine, and Constantly Cute are cringy lyrics and hard to listen to
IMO I give the album 5/10
Feels like everyone have forgotten the Space Invader album ???? But now they love everything??? And now they lobe Ace ??? Same people that selling T Shirts with no Ace no Peter no problem ???? It is hilarious/😂
I haven’t forget about Space Invader. I haven’t listened to it since it was first released, blah. I have always loved Ace, since you listen to the show you already know this.
Give the Space Invader a listen i am sure you will like it 👍
Are you saying that you just put aces name on the front cover and he had nothing to do with it at all?! Wow! That's really uncool if that's what it is.....
How do you call this a ace album when 95% was written by someone else.im a kiss fan but not blinded by it. I've been playing guitar45 years ace was an influence but his playing in the last 20 years is terrible. Every interview is about kiss and he's milked it. He' lends his name and contributes 5 percent. He attempts to replicate it live and can't. Yes he's a legend a ND influenced many because of kiss. The theatrics and songs contributed. Sorry having studio guys play and polish an album and claiming it as your own is bullshit. He praises the album and all the songs he should he did all the work.
So basically Ace sings/solos on a Steve Brown Trixter album.... damn!
Easy… don’t listen to it and your problems are solved. Those of who do love it will keep listening and ALL of us will be happy.
@bobpugliese4428 How dare you formulate your own opinion about this music album on a public forum like YT showcasing a certain rock group and its past members! You big meany you!!😜
Steve how do I get in touch with you?
I’m in NJ
That was agreat show 🤟🤟🤟
So did Ace write anything on this album besides Back In My Arms Again?
I doubt it.
Steve says 95% of the ideas came from him so I guess Back in my Arms is the 5%
@@andrewg2618ideas is not the same as writing. But way to jump to conclusions.
@MichaelBrandvold tone is always on point. Relax. I know you like to be rude to drive responses but it is not required.
@@andrewg2618 did I hurt your feelings by just pointing out the reality that 95% of ideas does not mean 95% of guitars and songwriting is not Ace? You are the one that thinks like that. Man you fans just can’t listen to what is said, you want it to be what you think. Your loss, not mine.
Awesome episode! Thanks guys! My favorite on the album right now (it changes from day to day) is Blinded.
Great interview!!
Guys, did the fb group get deleted? I can’t find it
No, the Three Sides group is alive and active.
Overall good album and any set of songs will be weak or stronger than others. That's how it goes sometimes but what I would love to see for Ace is getting back into a live situation that he's truly ready for. Saw some clips of this year and last year and its not always good. Not sure why or what's happening there but for the fans, would be nice to see it more polished live. The band is good and solid but Ace is not quite up to par live. Just an observation from what I have seen on YT. I get that he's not young, we all aren't but there are some bands out there in their 70's who are solid live and don't disappoint. Ace is right on one factor, Kiss would never put an album like this out before they called it quits.
Space Invader is a great hook album
Should have been called "10,000 sloppy rehashed predictable volts"
It's a fantastic album.
"Best KISS related release since Revenge in 1992" - Steve Brown
I agree.
I agree as well. Stunning album from Ace
I really like this new album some people are dogin it but it's a great album
Cmon Ace should be playing rhythm guitar!
Walmart didn’t have a single copy in freehold nj!
All over the internet people are complaining they can’t find a copy.
Mark im done with this? WTF
You look like you didn’t want to be there?
Hoo hum. This guy is really thinks he the ....next Max Norman! It sold 13,000 and everyone thinks it's great. And if you don't like space stuff, it Space Ace! This is why I listen to this channel once a year . It's Ace Frehley, not Randy Rhoads and Bob Daisley writing Diary of a Madman!
Ace Rules! Purple and Red Kool Aid drinkers drool.
Mike hold the phone dude! And the guy with glasses in the middle. Hold the freaking phone! Who cares who played on it!? 😡 The whole main reason why a lot of people are going to buy it is because it's an ace frehley release! ... Yeah, it is a great album. It's a phenomenal album. I absolutely love the album song for song! But if I found out that Ace almost didn't play on it at all then why in the heck would I buy it, maybe I would buy it because it has good songs but then don't call it an Ace album don't put his name on it! For crying out loud! It does matter if AC/DC released an album and not one member of AC/DC had anything to do with the album come on dude. We're talking about integrity!!! Fans want to know that Ace has something to do with the writing,.. that he did play guitar on it,.. Otherwise it's fraud. What are you guys even talking about! Seriously you guys got to go back and watch this for yourself and see if you can believe the words that came out of your own mouths. Well then put Steve Brown on the cover and call it 10,000 volts! And see how well it would have sold. Laugh out loud. Come on seriously! The whole fact that people are excited is because it's an ACE release and a lot of fans believe or at least led to believe that Ace played guitar on it. It's okay if Steve played on it also along with Joey, which is awesome, but if Ace almost didn't play guitar on it then what's the freaking point you guys got to check yourselves seriously! We're talking about freaking integrity, honesty. Otherwise it's fraud if you slap Ace's name on it and he had nothing to do with the album. That would be absolute fraud! I mean come on you guys are all old enough to know better than to say garbage like that!
The guy in the middle of glasses is out of his mind lol,... The songs from the '70s and '80s and that style is timeless! And some of these bands have lots of songs that never seen the light of day and now within the last 10 years those bands have released songs they've been holding onto and their actually great songs! 10,000 volts by Ace frehley, .. All those sounding fresh sounds extremely like the '80s style hair metal! Even has a hint of '70s to it also. So the old guy in the middle thinks he's trying to be hip by saying he don't want stuff from the past. Laugh out loud. Well we don't want the modern day music. That's out there now cuz it's garbage!
Love that they did Back into my arms and hope in the future Ace revisited Audio Video / And he have to have Gene Simmons do a song on next origins volume 3 and Peter Criss was to sing a song / rest he should sing himself / stay away from Lita Ford and that kind of stuff the biggest stars Ace can have on the Origins record is Simmons and Criss noone cares about other artist s sing cover songs on Ace Frehleys albums / I wich he could do Deuce and sing it / i think he did a great job on Rock n Roll Hell Parasite and Cold Gin 👍
"Walking on the Moon", musically, has nothing to do with Ace and even less with Kiss. A bad track.
Why is this on podcast vevo?
We have been available eon VEVO for quite a while. VEVO wanted to include our podcast on their channel.
All the time watching this I wondered; why is Mark and Lisa on this episode. They didn`t do anything. Lisa even logged off for over 30 minutes. I understood that Mark had done some work on a review of the album and got snubbed, but dude.. if you have a guest like Steve Brown talking about a hot topic like Ace`s new great solo album, YOU LET HIM TALK. Set your own ego aside and don`t bit** like it like a little girl when it`s over. You didn`t contribute sh** to this podcast. Neither did Lisa. It would have been much better with just Tommy and Mike.
Start your own show and you can run it exactly the way you want.
Does it really matter who helped Ace record it's a great record I think
Tommy on the phone wtf
Thanks Tommy for asking why does there have to be so much filler on records. Excellent question. Ace insisted that on this new album, all the songs have to be good. Why wouldn't they all be strong, good songs? If you already know you're putting out a halfway ok record, why should anyone pay for it? I'm trying to get into the songs off the new one. It's okay. After spending $ on all of the crap records of Ace's, I'm not biting. There's not much to taste. Again.
Sorry to say, but this new album also has a lot of filler on it. There are four listenable tracks. The rest is forgettable. Ace’s 1978 solo record can’t be touched. He was hungry then and he had something to prove. That era is gone. All of aces albums have good stuff on them, but they also have filler on them. Except for the 1978 solo album it’s perfect.
Starting to get disappointed with the whole thing,... Seems like it should have been called the ""Steve Brown project""- I mean it's a great album, but is it really? ACE! 🤷
Actually what this is.. proof that whoever works with ace to better themselves and try to compare to the 78 record is a failure. That record cant be recreated.. because, ACE is not the same guy as he was then. And Steve does not have the magic that album crafted. Get over yourselves ! Only Ace with Eddie Kramer could do that if* it is possible. I think that day has come and gone. I for one would have loved to hear it. None of the ACE albums since even get close.
I miss the way Ace wrote songs in the early 70s when the guitars talked like lyrics... this record doesnt have any songs i that matter like Cold Gin, Parasite, Rocket Ride...
Walkin on the moon and Cherry Medicine missed the mark tho
Ace usually plays bass on all his albums, I like that he does that .rather have Ace on bass!
Seriously Steve who? Yawn
Are all the solos Ace?
Half of them
lets be frank here-i can i be frank here. comparing himself to Kiss? wow-ok. i do not and can not relate to none of these cheesy songs. i am No Kiss Fan, so bare with me. is this Ace album better than any Kiss album? -hell no. Kiss Asylum is better and by better, i mean...you better check out this un popular song off Asylum called "Any Way You Slice it" that kicks 10,000 voltz ass..and aces teeth in. jusaying.
As a long time fan, I can honestly say I consider the Kiss albums after Lick It Up and before Revenge to be an all time low. The most throw away records in the Kiss catalogue (along with Sonic Boom and Monster, and the wretched Carnival). 10,000 Volts does recapture the cheesy feel of the 70's Kiss, and that's why I like it.
That's why it's so much fun.
KISS hasn't made an album like this in decades, and likely never will again.
Crazy nights, Asylum, and HITS really sucked IMO. LIU, Animalize, and Revenge are the best with Bruce and Eric Carr. Revenge is great but Kiss's crowning achievement will always be Kiss Alive for me. Good show folks. 🙂
@@David-ne6cd i dont give a damn about what you like. Ace brags that this song 10,000 voltz is better than anything Kiss done prior. Compare the god damn songs and then come back and run your mouth- Kiss'sucka

Not a good album. Lacks balls and playing is not impressive. Anomaly pees on this effort
Anomaly and invader both better but this is real good and solid, catchy fun, diverse, rocking,…I like it a lot. And I bought 78 in 78.
Try The Darkness’s last album Motorheart. Infinitely better on all levels: two stellar guitar players trading rhythm and lead and lights out drumming not to mention better vocals. A true rock guitar album not puff pop garbage. Love Ace but woefully inadequate..
Ace has no record that sounds like the 78 record. He dont have the drive he had back then to prove a point. Steve.. this is not the 78 record bro..
Possibly his worst album yet , very uninspiring and bland. Some of the songs are absolutely dreadful.
