SA’s Political Players - Mashatile’s strategic brilliance; Shivambu’s missing hatred for Zuma

  • With the Government of National Unity having been in power for over two months already, BizNews asked Dr. Ina Gouws of the Department of Political Studies and Governance at Free State University for her impressions. She dissects the early achievements of the GNU as well as the coalition chaos at provincial and municipal level. She doesn’t think there's “a better strategist” than Vice President Paul Mashatile “in terms of moving himself and manoeuvring himself into certain positions and being able to find himself in the right place at the right time for his own sake.” Analysing the defection of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) deputy president Floyd Shivambu to MK were he is now the National Organiser, she says” “His hatred that he displayed in Parliament of Jacob Zuma and what he's done seemingly disappeared at a moment where opportunity was given to him to maybe take up that position. And maybe he has ambitions to one day lead MK or lead this grand leftist progressive coalition to challenge the Government of National Unity…” Meanwhile, she feels it is just a matter of time before the African National Congress (ANC) “reigns in” the GNU-defiant Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi. As for Herman Mashaba’s ActionSA getting into bed with the ANC in Joburg, she comments: “What they are willing to do on local level and willing to tolerate and willing to protect even for seemingly the sake of just keeping the DA out…”

Mashaba has become another thorn in the side. He should think of the people of SA, not his vanity.

I think this lady might have missed something, in Oudshoorn the DA wanted the municipality to fork out cash for developers of a property, which would ultimately fall on the tax payer, the FF+ was against this and said the developer should fork out the cash. To me that sounds like putting the citizens first.

GNU for me it's promising even most of my black folks are against it but i think this a better solution to run the country in the long run because now powers of government are stripped and now that it will everyone a chance to run and also accountability is going to be clear........at least Ramaphosa has made a good decision.....imagine if they would have agreed with eff and mk now the rand was going to float on 50 rand against the dollar now it's going down

"You dont hear 'they did this, and its bad for the town'" - Excuse me? Under what rock did this woman crawl out from? Just in that one sentence, she exposed herself as being either ignorant or biased. The FF+ have done _exactly_ that, its been the narrative right from the start. They were abundantly clear about the bad faith actions of the DA mayors and how it is bad for the town. How can she now come and say otherwise?

  • @deanchapman2302

DA started the power game by excluding and criticizing the smaller parties saying that they are the be all and end all. Action SA is simply playing the same power game and will in the process probably win some centralist ANC members instead of black DA supporters. Until a true black lead central party starts growing both DA and ANC will decline. The result will be people of action instead of political parties will ultimately group together to govern. Gauteng must decline more before it can rise again. Without the power of gold to maintain a naturally unsustainable city, it's recovery will be more controlled. New sustainabile cities will arise going forward.
