Behind the Scene: How the Dog from 'Anatomy of a Fall' Learned to Play Dead on Screen

I really hope he makes an appearance at the Oscars. I’m not even joking, he gave a genuinely fantastic performance. It was almost uneasily human. Hell, giving him and his trainer Laura an honorary oscar would be so nice
Apparently he's not allowed because some companies complained that allowing him to attend would 'give Anatomy of a Fall an advantage during the voting window' or some other stupid BS. The pettiness of studio execs never ceases to amaze me.
@@HuntingtonsDisco I just saw that. Absolutely devastated. The Oscars had an opportunity for the best PR stunt of the century but NOOOO it hurt the poor feelings of the soulless corporations.
@@HuntingtonsDiscobig corporations scared of a little doggy lmao
He’s there
He's a border collie... fantastic dogs learning things ❤
Border collies are known to be working breeds with high energy, so Messi is probably a very happy dog cause he is constantly engaged in different activities that stimulate his brain (like remembering tricks, staying still, etc)
I was gonna say that dog must've had the time of their life on set! Eager to learn x100
"We chose the dog not for his beauty of for his appearance but for his ability to do things" not all actors can say that 💅🏻💋
actresses either
@@meherenow793 actor is a neutral word lol
@@thatveryvvitch_ Agree. I've used the term "actor" exclusively for some time now.
The dog is so incredible! At first, I thought they drugged the dog to do the scene because it was so realistic. To know that he was trained and actually acted out the scene is mind blowing.
How was it trained is the concern you should have. Was it abuse or repetitive exhaustive training.
Both ways are abusive.
@@soupnfresh border collies NEED to work, you should research before making stupid statements
So training your dog is abuse now... It's getting out of hand guys
@@arturomunoz3093 Of course it is. You obviously haven't seen how cruel it can be. I guess you're living under a rock. And dogs aren't the only animals subjected to animal cruelty. Think a little.
He needs an Oscar nomination now ! Oscar’s need a dog/animal category asap!
Agreed! I would love to see that dog and the donkey from The Banshees of Inisherin win
Your are so right! We need the category to: Best pet actor and trainer
Cannes has one! And I'm happy to report that Messi won it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palm_Dog_Award
He’s definitely winning the Academy Award for “Goodest Boy/Girl in a Leading Role”.
This is the actors on actors we need
We need Bradley Cooper in conversation with this dog. Maybe he can learn a thing or two.
Messi genuinely delivered an incredible performance for a dog.
Possibly for a human too.
'the dog is a paid actor', literally!
He's such a precious baby.
I know the dog is acting, but I am literally tearing up watching this video. That is really one of my fears as a fur parent come to life.
The boy deserves all praise as well. Fantastic performance.
Well deserved Palm Dog winner.
Wait, is no one going to talk about the trainer’s translator? His voice sounds exactly like the trainer’s but in english. That’s also amazing!
I was shocked when he started talking. That voice sounds (no offense) nothing like his face lol!
Anatomy of a Fall deserved the Best Film award.
This dog was just incredible! I use " shaping" in my dog training too so I understand the layering they had to do to get to that scene !
Messi is absolutely incredible ! ❤
Loved the movie. They should give him an honorary Oscar. And Milo Machando Graner should have got the Best Supporting Actor instead of Mark Ruffalo
The dog acting in this movie was way better than the whole cast of Madame Web
😂😂😂
The first thing catched my eyes in the movie was the dog performance
Wow! I was so convinced they had medicated him to get that stunning performance. That’s incredible
Messi is such a star 🌟
He's a Border Collie, the smartest dog in the world. He is probably smarter than any of the human actors that are up for awards this year. Remember Chaser, the dog that knew all the names of all his toys, and Chaser was also a Border Collie.
Fun fact almost any dog can learn this 😅
Just watched 'Anatomy of a Fall" and I was blown away by that scene where Snoop was sick and dying. I wasn't sure if I was watching an incredible animatronic dog, or if they actually made a real dog very sick, which infuriated me to think about. Literally as soon as the movie was over, I Googled 'Anatomy of a Fall' + dog and saw this link. WHEW! It never crossed my mind that a dog could be trained to do what Messi did in this movie. That dog is truly gifted. Amazing scene.
This film is brilliant and when it came to this dog scene I literally had to stop the film to check that the film producers hadn't really used a dead dog I was so convinced! Epic acting all round 👏👏👏👏👏❤❤❤
Messi❤the most beautiful baby on the planet❤❤❤❤❤❤
Snoop is probably my favorite actor this awards season
I loved that movie all the actors and Messi! A masterpiece.
Sooo smart he is ❤❤
He did make an appearance! In the closing credits, they had him "pretend peeing" on Matt Damon's Hollywood Star. Poor Matt.
I HATED the boy for what happened to the dog, that is how amazing the dog is!
Messi & Sandra were the two most talented actors at the Oscars this year… by a LONG way.
He was amazing!!!❤
Currently watching this film, had to pause and Google how this scene was filmed because I couldn't believe what I was watching. I thought this can't be a real dog because what could they have possibly done to him to make that scene so real! what an absolutely amazing gorgeous and clever dog actually one of the best performances from an actor ever ❤
Such a beautiful dog too! Definitely border collie, but kind of unlike any border collie I've ever seen.
I want to see TheGirlWithTheDogs give him a groom! :D
That dog is already world champion
Lindo perrito 😍😍😍😍😍, se merece TODOS los homenajes, premios y juguetes del mundo.
Love this little guy
A STAR!
What a smart cutie!
Without doubt, the dog’s French is way better than mines 😂
hahaha
"ahhh messi pq t'es mort???"
To me, Messi and Milo Machado-Graner were the true Best Supporting Actor nominess.
I love Messi 😘
ronaldo betterrr
I'm French and it's embarrassing to say that this dog plays death better than Marion Cotillard!
Love you Messi 🦮
Snoop♥️rules👑!
Looks like a very interesting movie😮
Messi should have his own special Oscar ❤❤
The true Best Supporting Actor winner!
The GOAT
THE WAY I GOT SCARED WHEN I SAW THE SCENE, IT THOUGHT THEY ACTUALLY ABUSED THE DOG 😭😭😭
que bello 😊
The BESTEST boiiii!!!
He should get an Oscar
Messi, like Leo Messi the soccer phenomenon?
I did not expect the voice from the dude translator lol.
I know right?! hahahahaha
“We chose him not for his beauty.” Excuse me???
She isn't saying that he isn't beautiful, what she means is "he IS beautiful, but we chose him not because of this, but because of his ability to act"
He is no ordinary dog, he has a kind of "superpower". 😉
He is a superdog
It’s one of these puzzling scenes where i wondered how did they do it.
This dog acted better in this film than some leading actors Oscar wins.
超厲害的演技😊
At 0:40 seconds they show a completely different dog that isn’t Messi? 😂🤨
i love messi 😭
It's amazing to see to what degree ppl loves Messi, no one cares about the dog in France he's not in any conversation about the movie here i'm not goin to lie
To be fair, the French aren’t exactly know for appreciating whimsy and joy.
I just love dogs and messi is a dog! Best men friends! So i guess the french don't care about friendship, loyalty and unconditional love a dog brings!
True! In the media we don’t really talk about the dog but a lot of people in France likes the movie because of the dog.
That was unbelievable. It seemed as if the dog was actually drugged.
Best actor at the Oscar 2024 .
Daniel Day Lewis left a lot to be desired and now we have it
Sweet baby
eu chorei quando ele quase morreu
The dog was the highlight of the show
He is smarter than a lot of people. Including me
messi coming through
What's the big deal? My dog does the same thing any time I try to get her to go outside and take a walk
❤😊
0:38 uhh that is definitely a different dog. Am I missing something?
Came here to see if anyone else noticed this! That’s not Messi.
For whatever reason...Messi was unable to attend Cannes. So the dog shown is named Stan (also a border collie) who "symbolically" accepted the Palm Dog for Messi.
@@guyjackson132 All that fame has gotten to his head.
Won't even show up to Cannes anymore to accept an award. Clearly beneath him now.
El Oscar es el único premio al que Messi le faltó estar nominado.
In Taiwan we always say: “dogs are dogs, borders are borders”😄
Does he have his SAG member card?
ahm... that's not Messi at 0:37
I noticed...brown eyes!
How did they make him sick?
The puke was CGI, i don't think french/EU laws would allow to make an animal sick, just for a movie.
NO LO DEJARON APARECER EN EL OSCAR😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡🤪🤪🤪
Snoop killed Samuel.
❤❤❤❤❤
Border Collies are the best
Can the dog speak French?
Once upon a time they would have just drugged the dog... 😥
He was robbed!
I love the dog and liked the movie but I'm not a fan of the director (saying at the Césars her partner (the man she lives with and with who she wrote the scenario) isn't a screenwriter and saying in front of him she sometimes as a director on a movie falls in love and that there's the possibility she's have had affairs with actors
Why do you care about their personal relationship? You do not knwo what kind of understanding they have.
@@anmnou I really dislike it when a person in a couple belittles the other publicly, that's all.
@@anmnoushe totally misunderstood what Triet said. Some people don't have any sense of humor. Justine and Arthur have been writing all her films together...they make a fantastic match.
Passionnant...😴
I wish Hollywood would stop making movies where the pet suffers
He didn't and the film is not "from" hollywood. It's french.
No disrespect to all the folks gushing over this dog but he’s not any more special than any other dog.
Meaning they’re all special.
Regardless if they can perform tricks and be in a movie.
Let’s not base a dog’s value on whether they can entertain us…
What I get from my dog, which is invaluable, is a constant reminder to be present and to love unconditionally. Those qualities are way more important than being able to roll over and play dead.
What a baffling comment.
@@electrogeek77 Something tells me you get baffled easily
@@waynedextersomething tells us you didn't get the sarcasm.
@@ilovemovies725 Thanks for representing “us” and yes I’m not completely attuned to sarcasm because of my autism.
Also, because of social media sarcasm is so prevalent that it’s become toxic. Everyone’s addicted to trying to be passive aggressively clever
Agreed
❤
Okay, the voice of the trainer's translator is not what I expect him to sound like.
Me too I was stunned! Although the poor dude probably gets this all the time lol. If it was radio I'd picture a young gay guy from California, not a scruffy looking middle aged man
