    Imo they coulda just started with imitating the sounds of the most popular wind instruments. Just stick to maybe sax, flute, clarinet, oboe, trumpet, you know the usual, and just do it accurately. If people would want synth sounds I think they'll just pick up a midi keyboard over this any day. But I think it's still a good start.
    I wonder if you can connect earphones to this. I'm a beginner and only interested in a midi wind instrument just so I can play it quietly so as not to annoy neighbors but still be able to hear it properly.

    • @benjaminpeterson222
      @benjaminpeterson222 Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, you can just plug headphones straight in -- good for learning tunes. It's an interesting and powerful device but the built in synth is not 'industrial' quality.

      Yes, I agree. I'd really like to find an electronic wind instrument which provides, to plugged in headphones, a good imitation of a flute, clarinet, even a recorder... my 10 year old Korg keyboard comes close, but it's not a wind instrument. Thanks for the demo, but this instrument is not what I'm looking for - especially at the price 😮.

      @trigamma5141 Před 10 měsíci

      @@briancrowle6290 I'm glad the Sylphy does not try to imitate real instruments. If you look for that, you will be disappointed. Otherwise it's brlliant midi controller. But I love it for the amazing built in sounds out of the box. They are instruments on their own. That's the big misunderstanding on the Sylphyo.

      @@trigamma5141 Thank you - your reply has given me pause for thought.
      Well, I think that whether or not you like the Sylpho sounds is very much a matter of personal taste. If you do, well and good - Enjoy! There are a few purely synthetic sounds that I like too.
      But sadly, I think you're right - I rather doubt that there's an ewi with the sort of sounds to be found on my Korg keyboard. But there are some interesting instruments coming onto the market now, midi controllers with sax or recorder like fingering. And, frankly, at only a fraction of the advertised price of the Sylpho. I just have to figure out how to get one of them to drive the midi in of the Korg...

    So where are these sounds coming from? The Sylphyo, or the Link? I kind of agree that these sounds are not very compelling. If it's all down to the synth, why would this be an improvement over my EWI USB. I got very into my EWI USB for a while, and I had some very nice sounds from SWAM and Wallander. But ultimately it just does not seem as expressive as a real instrument. And, Gina, I don't see any videos from you actually making music with Sylphyo, so I wonder about that. I just discovered the new Roland Aerophone line, and I am seriously considering it. Then I stumbled on this. I love the lightness and the simplicity of the fingering. The wireless Link is a nice touch. But the question is, would it really be more expressive than my EWI USB? The same company also makes a synth, but you don't seem to have gotten that or played with it. Anyway, thanks for these videos and you have so much charm and grace. I'm glad you are doing well.

    • @bitmaster64
      @bitmaster64 Před 2 lety

      I believe the misunderstanding here is that the "instruments" or sound profiles she lists off, i don't think she mentioned that they're preloaded onto the device, and it produces a music signal, but as it has no speaker you have to plug in either headphones, an amp, or use the link to hook it to your pc. The last one likely allowing you to use it with midi software as a controller, or just using the pc speakers inplace of the aforementioned amp/headphones.

    • @SteveKowarsky
      @SteveKowarsky Před 2 lety

      @@bitmaster64 Thank you for your reply. I think you are correct - these sounds are in the instrument. My misunderstanding was this: I thought the Link was to wirelessly feed the midi stream into a PC. I am pretty sure it can do this. But apparently it can also stream the audio output directly into monitor speakers (self-powered, I assume). All this investigating got me to get into the Akai EWI again, and I have made several new videos you can find on my CZcams Channel skowarsky.

    So this thing is an air based synth keyboard that needs a computer and additional hardware to be able to be used.
    A standard keyboard seems a lot more practical, this thing just seems pretentious.
