- Well sh*t, here we are a video series I didn't think I would have to make, on 03/10/2016 I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
I will be vlogging my treatment, thoughts and recovery when I can. If you are watching this and have any questions please ask.

Much love to you Joe, I won’t say stay strong because nobody can be or should be strong all the time. It’s good to hear that there are a few avenues of treatment that are being explored, and hopefully with less side effects so that you can continue to appreciate a "cheeky Nando’s" 😉

Thank you for the update Joe. Was worried as hadn’t heard from you for a wee while. You’re amazing. Honestly just so inspiring to watch. Completely agree with Josiah - I won’t say stay strong either but just know you’re doing bloody amazing despite whats been thrown at you. My dad has neuroendocrine cancer.. we as a family hear those words continuously. “stay strong, stay strong” and you know what, you can’t always be strong. Honestly I think people who haven’t been through it just don’t know what to say sometimes. You keep going Joe. Sending big hugs ohhhh & CHEEKY NANDO’s! x
so good to hear from you. As a long term thyroid stage 4 survivor you make my struggles seem easy. your team seems on top of things at least. I look forward to hearing your next video on the emotional aspect too. the physical parts, taste loss, voice and muscle issues are bad, but the emotional part is another dimension. not being able to taste food properly is heartbreaking. sadly I have never been to Nando's

Sending you love and healing energy your way. My aunt had thyroid cancer for almost 20 years before she passed and it was spread to her lungs and liver for the majority of that time. She recently passed (not from the cancer), but she is a perfect example that hope always exists and miracles happen every minute. You deserve one too. X
Hope you get to have some more "cheeky Nando's" soon! Btw, I think they have that restaurant in downtown Chicago. Never been to it though! I'm glad you're still here and nothing super-major has happened! Good luck with your biopsy!
Never had a Nandos, cheeky or otherwise. Know of a couple of Nandos around Dublin so will make an effort to give it a go. Great to see you in good form, and all the best for tomorrow.
I have been watching about six of these videos back to back. You have made them very informative and interesting. I’m not going to ask silly question because I think you are explaining your treatment and the progress of your cancer .
So Good to hear from you as my wife and I was wondering how things were. We are sorry for your situation, but your attitude is great. I hope that the FNA provides some usable information for targeted therapies. I hear you about the change in tastes of food you enjoy. The mouth pain from some of the immunotherapies can be discouraging but it is a necessary evil. Hang in there and know that we all are wishing you the best and want you to have success. As for the cheeky Nandos, I had to look that up and the chicken sounds delicious.

Sending love and prayers...you are a strong willed man I wish I was more like you. Had my thyroid removed due to cancer and now they are following nodules for the last two years that are in my thyroid bed
..plus I'm battleling 2 different kinds of Brest cancer also.
But my endocrinologist doesn't seem as worried as I am..
I just wish you the best you have been thru so much and I'm jealous of your ability to keep fighting I'm ready to give up my only concern is mygrandbabies are so young and there mother is not in the picture....thats my issue or I would be gone.....sorry for venting....GOODLUCK tomorrow.

Stable is stable and I'm happy for that... the other news is not so good but I'm glad that there are options going forward... I/we wish you the best as always chief.
I had a chicken smoothie once so I have nothing but respect for you being able to sustain yourself on such a restricted diet.

Sorry to hear all that mess. You are a strong person and I couldn't do it. My sister just got diagnosed with stage 4 spindle cell neoplasm and it's metastasis to bones and she already has Friederichs ataxia and is confined to wheelchair and because of the disease she can't have chemo because her body can't handle it. So I'm so sorry cancer sucks. Cheeky nandos

I've been wondering how you've been getting on, Joe, and looking out for you when I have appointments in Chelsea.
Neck nodule growth is rubbish. Hope you get good news from FNA. Good to hear the liver met is stable .... what about the bone mets?
I had a 10 day 'Cabozantinib holiday' myself recently while on antibiotics for intestinal inflammation, my first break from it since starting in Jan last year.
I'd like to stop injecting anticoagulants, but can't have any that come in tablet form as they are contra-indicated in the clinical trial so I guess I'll put up with the jabs and the bruising.
I've never really 'got' the appeal of Nandos, cheeky or otherwise - there are many other things I'd pick in preference (even if I have to keep in mind the location of nearest loo).
I'm looking forward to the next vlog and hearing about how you are handling your emotions, etc.

Nice segue there. At the end of the video where you talk a lot about the physical, you interject Cheeky Nando's, which is something in which you partake to improve your mental health. I can't wait to see what the phrase will be at the end of the next video :-D
So good to see your face! So pleased the liver is stable. I've been wondering how you are for what feels like ages. Not being able to trust your stomach is the worst. I've got ulcerative colitis which has a 30 second warning. Like Russian roulette you just got to laugh it all off. It's not like you asked for it.

It's exhausting for someone to go through this! Cancer is surely a nightmare!
My unsolicited two cents' worth: Tread with caution when it comes to supplements, especially fat-soluble vitamins and iron supplements; cod liver oil raises ferritin to astronomically high levels and can cause all sorts of problems. E Hane wrote to Amazon (it must have been an order) to say it landed him and a friend in the hospital on separate occasions; they had severe bacterial infections! They used different brands of CLO. It might be wise to look up iron overload in relation to various cancers.
Use ALL oils sparingly (only use the oils you love the taste of) and if you eat butter, butter such as Kerry Gold from grass-fed cows is anticarcinogenic and is probably better in general; unless you hate the taste or you get side effects from eating butter.
I have never tried nando's but I am going to give it a shot!

I have poorly differentiated thyroid cancer that has stopped responding to radioactive iodine. Which transformed from follicular.
@@JoePlater So you never had your thyroid completely removed, it sounds like. I have a "highly suspicious" nodule being watched at the moment.
I had my thyroid out in 2016 after a poly nodule goitre turned out to actually be cancer, had a scan after where it was spotted to have already spread to my lungs, then a left neck dissection in 2018 after having a rapid growing lump even after having radioactive iodine treatment.
At the time they thought the tissue from my neck dissection was anaplastic, but was reclassified last year when being looked at again for possible targetable mutations.
