      A lot of evangelicals feel the need to make a distinction between faith and religion. They’ll say they “aren’t religious” when what they mean is that they don’t follow a major organized denomination. They likely still pray, read their Bibles, and even go to smaller nondenominational churches.

    • @elijahculper5522
      @elijahculper5522 Před 4 lety +7

      T Mac
      I’m not saying that the distinction many nondenominational Christians make between faith and religion makes sense. I just know that there is a group of Christians who associate the word “religion” with organized religious institutions. They’d say Catholics, Methodists, Episcopalians, etc are “religious” because (in the view of these “non-religious” Christians), they are overly dogmatic and put too much emphasis on tradition. They say they aren’t religious because they eschew the rigidity of other forms of Christianity. Their churches tend to be small and autonomous and they go all in on ideas like “faith alone;” they think what’s in your heart matters and your actions don’t, so they don’t have much use for a strictly structured worship service. They just do what they feel God wants them to do. They don’t view general Christianity as a religion, because they tend to live in places where almost everyone is Christian and it’s easy to view it as the default. I haven’t listened to her radio show, but it’s not a stretch to assume she probably falls in with these “non religious” Christians. I get that to anyone who is not part of this Christian subculture identifying as “non religious” while making a living as a Christian radio personality seems contradictory. I grew up around these people and they can be infuriating. They just have a different understanding of the meaning of the word “religion.”

I’ve never heard a buff be called anything else. Jamal was explaining what certain symbols mean. The term “racist” doesn’t always mean hateful and spiteful. It can also mean an ignorance and that’s what it was. Jack had no malice, but he made an ignorant statement. 3:12 Buddha is not a 'God', Buddhists don't worship Buddha. Buddhism is a practice, there is no deity involved. There are Catholic Priests that practice Buddhism and the Catholic Church has no problem with that. Buddhism does not require you to denounce God. There really is no conflict of interest Buddhism and Christianity unless you don't understand what Buddhism is.

    • @emy_2510

      It's funny that we think we know what Buddhism or any of these pre-Axial religion/spiritual practices are. Like people thinking they know what the Eleusinian Mysteries were, as if the ethnographer studying them were told the secret of secrets, when the little we can comprehend is that you don't relate to the outsiders, and if you do, its because they arent outsiders any more, if you were iniciated, you are now to not tell the outsiders. The idea that the pre-Axial Buddhism is the same as the Buddhism of today and now people like yourself can school us on what Buddhism really is.
