- Recent fleet assignment changes caused the last few R142A sets stored at Westchester Yard to be moved to Mosholu Yard for (4) line service. As of May 23rd, 2018, the (6) line is made up entirely of R62A cars.

Not yet. The R142A retired from the 6 and will come back on some PM rush hours to visit! Remember: PM rush hours 6 train borrows one 4 train fleet.
Minion Bay-Ohh. Thanks for letting me know
Minion Bay I agree! And it is possible for the 4 to give some of the R142as back to the 6! Like 7 sets of R142as back to the 6!

Welp it's been fun with the R142A 6 ill miss it. #NeverForgotten I been with the R142A 6 since 2003 when i was born lol i can't wait to offically be on the (4)(7) Lines By September ill still be with the R142A's and the converted ones too.
It's okay all good things must come to an end. Even tho i am upset about it but as long as my favorite sets 7610 and 7591 are still on Lexington Avenue
Why are 7610 and 7571 your favorite is it because it looks the best?
redphone243 well no in 7610 my dad is friends with an T/O so I got to go inside the cab and then 7591 I met so many great people on that train and that’s how I have lots of friends now

Noel's lego vids No worries. They are currently on the 4, and some of them will be reassigned to the 42nd Street Shuttle.
@@TheRailLeaguer does that mean I can finally record the 42nd St Shuttle Announcement?
@@bullymaguire6168 Unfortunately it appears that plan has been scrapped. The existing R62As will be converted into 18 6-car sets with plans for 24 R262s to come and replace the R62As (the 24 R262s for the shuttle are the only confirmed assignments for the entire car fleet).
R142A has completed swap away from the 6 line and be moved to the 4 line and some of R142A is upgraded into R188 on the 7 line and upgraded new door motor has completed swap on R142A.
Pretty much the r142a cars from the 6 train(Lexington Av Local)were brought to the corona and mosholu yards for 4 trains(Lexington Av Express)and 7 trains(Flushing At Local/Express). But, the electronic strip maps from the 6 Train has to be removed. In order to be back in service on 4 and 7 Lines.
GeometryDash FreshApple The ones that went to the 7 line are now R188s. The ones that went to the 4 line are still R142As.
Yea but they still had to remove the electronic strip map from the r142a 6 trains
GeometryDash FreshApple I know that.
The 4 is no big deal the real reason is because of the 7 needing CBTC service (which caused A LOT of R142As to be converted to R188s). This caused the 7 to give their R62As to the 6
BOIII3 Productions 380 cars went to the 7 line for the CBTC. As the rest of the 7 line R62As came on the line, a surplus of cars was revealed in Westchester Yard, so those last R142As went to the 4 line to bolster service and replace cars that went to the 2/5 for the increased service there. After all, Northern and central Bronx could use those NTTs from the 6.
It will be interesting if the R62A cars for the 6 train had the Howling loop sounds from the R68 D train! Who remembers those howlings loop sounds on the B and D trains?
I remember around April 2018 I went to randalls Island and then I came back to get on the 6 from 103 and I got an R142A luckily
I can't believe what I've just read! I should've seen this comin', but now it's happenin'. Oh well, at least I have my uploads
How do you know of fleet assignment changes?
I’m still annoyed they didn’t just keep those remaining sets on the 6 especially when this was the time period where the (6) relied heavy on extra put ins from Jerome/E 180th St yard
Damn this is sad 😢, also RIP 7760, my favorite unit
7665 is now gone also (just used as the conductors area)
@Ismael Leal Yeah. 7760, in fact, all the 7700s are still on the 4 Train.
to bring these memories back of the r142a 6 train, take some r142a's from the 4 and put them on the 7, while the r188's from the 7 go to the 6. and some of the r142's on the 4 should still be used.
SonicFan '91 Can’t happen. R188s have CBTC and can only be on the 7 line. The R62As are actually more nostalgic for the 6 line since it spent the first decade or so on the 6 line.

There's no R142A on the (6) Line anymore since May
wish they could bring back the r142a's on the 6. in order for that to happen, take a few sets from the 4 and run them on the 6 during the day.
Why would you need that when the R62A cars on the 6 are doing just fine? 450 R62As are enough to cover all regular rush hour, midday, and evening 6 service. The only time the 6 needs R142 and R142As are when the 6 runs to 149th Street-Grand Concourse from Brooklyn Bridge.
Damn you MTA why you do this to us? :’(
Nothing here Because the R188 order for the 7 line called for a large amount of converted cars since it was determined that they did not need any additional cars to cover the IRT services. In addition, the R62As are not ready to be retired yet, so they swapped the R142As from the 6 line, which got back the equipment it rightfully deserves (R62As), and the R142As were given a second life as R188s. As of today, the cars are very reliable, which made Kawasaki, the builder behind the contracts, a contender for the R211 contract, which it eventually received.
they were joking the put r142a back on the 6 line
I can't wait for the R262 trains on the 6

One question I have, why couldn’t the 7 line have just taken half the number of R142As it took from the 6 line and the other half from the 4 line??? (Yes, this would have meant R62A 6 AND 4 trains) 🤔🤔
That cant happen for various reasons.
@@R160BExpress44 (Sorry IF LATE REPLY) Maybe because the R62A on the 7 line have some single car sets. The two 5 Car Trains to make 10 cars would be given to the 4 line BUT the R62A single cars may have had the 7 line strip map (not electronic) to make 11 cars, and the MTA converted most R62A single cars into 5 car sets just like the R33 and R36 cars were 2 car sets arranged five times to make 10 car sets + single cars for 11 car (7) Trains. Thats why it may not be possible.
I rode the r142a from 2015 to 2018 then I rode it again in 2019 because of service changes

There was something flapping when the 6 train left

TODAY IS YOUR LAST DAY OF THE NEW 6 TRAIN R142A GRADULATION I AM GOING TO MISS YOU SO MUCH
Wait were they suppose to be replaced by the “R188” or “R188A” fleet? Or was that only for the 7? O whatever the mta cant keep things afloat long anyways
Randy Blü Most R142As we’re converted into R188s. 380 cars were converted and along with 126 new R188s, were solely assigned for the 7 line. The reasons for the conversions were:
Supply cars for automation of the heavily-used IRT Flushing Line
Displace R62As back to the 6 line since they did not need new cars
Bolster Kawasaki Heavy Industries track record for the R211 contract.
Fast forward to 2018, the 6 line is thankfully 100% R62As (the only piece of current IRT equipment it deserves), the 7 is 100% R188s for automation, which should be ready by 2019, and as predicted, the R211 contract went to Kawasaki due to their performance of the R160 and R188 cars.
TheRailLeaguer got it!!! Cheers
Most R142A's were converted into R188's. 380 cars were converted and along with 126 new R188's, were solely assigned to the 7 line. With the remaining R142A's, 220 cars were assigned to the 4 line. The reasons for the conversions were:
Supply cars for automation of the heavily-used IRT Flushing Line Displace R62A's back to the 6 line since they did not need new cars Bolster Kawasaki Heavy Industries track record for the R211 contract.

When the R142's and R142A's gets retrofitted for CBTC the conversion would play out similar to the R188's But will stay with their 10-car trains
This will Most likely happen shortly before the 2nd Option order R262's enter service I wonder how they are going to move all of the 200 R142's and 220 R142A's from Jerome Yard to 240th street Yard

R.I.P R142A 6 trains
I heard that alot of people r complaining about the R62As on the (6) and they're getting tired of them
especially broken A/C
@@kentchin2249 They need 2 at least put 5 or 6 sets of R142As back on the 6 line
Andrew Campbell Instead of doing that, just make the R62A A/C systems more robust, and also install things like Digital interior screens showing the time, route and next stop, digital ad panels that display service changes and the map, brighter lighting, security cameras, and while you’re at it, replace the side signs with Digital LED (or whatever consumes less energy) signs showing the line bullet, it’s two terminals, and if applicable, the red diamonds or green circles denoting local or express service, all controlled by an onboard computer built into the cab, and there’s your modernization of the 6 line for you. Welcome to 2018, where anything is possible on the NYC Subway.
won't happen
replace those bucket seats!
Trust me . In the winter time we will see the return of a R142a on the 6 train.
Tonio guy There is still one set of R142A cars on the 6 line in Westchester yard but a lot of New Yorkers don't know that. The R142A cars will definitely return and also the Redbird trains will return. The Redbirds are the Train Of Many Colors.
Hotters 7060 There are almost enough R62As to cover the entire 6 line service for all 12 months so no need to borrow cars. As far as the Redbirds, those cars run only during special occasions.
TheRailLeaguer What do you think about the efficiency of the old Redbird trains and the R142 and R142A cars?? Which trains are stronger and more reliable???
Hotters 7060 Between Those cars, I don’t know which one is more reliable due to the lack of MBDF info for the Redbirds and the already poor condition of those cars when retirement came. However, what is known is that the R142As have the second-worst MBDF in the system, due to Westchester Yards lack of maintenance of the R142As (compare those to the R142AS converts for the 7 line and the latter looks a lot better now). The R142s are actually more efficient for 2/5 operations than the old Redbirds due to the elimination of the need to scroll through the rollsigns, saving minutes off each trip preparation for both lines. The time saved was used to add a few more trains on each line.
I'm starting to get a theory.
Anyone think that by 2021, the R62As will finally be put off Lexington Avenue as part of the subway redesign?
Daniel Samuels The Lexington Avenue Line will get CBTC for Fast Forward. By this time, the R62As will be ready to retire, but what’s the rush?
Theyll be replaced by r262s
Ah no it’s almost 2022 and they still rocking the Lexington line
It's sad I will remember the r142a 6 train
Although i get why they no linger run on the line, it has to be kind of like a step forward then 2 steps back.
Randy Blü It’s actually a step forward with this swap since the R62As now have the LED indicators to denote local and express service, which is a boon for those who live along the Pelham Line.
TheRailLeaguer i know, its funny i moved back into the area where i need to utilize this train line.
Randy Blü All you see on the 6 line now is R62As with those LED lights. Prepare for the extra service coming in April 2019
All R62As from the 7 line now the 6 line, all R142As from 60% to 7 line, now R188s, and 40% to 4 line
Lots of changes, very well organized
CTRail1996 yep
The R62As won’t be replaced until 2021 or 2025
I was born on November 11 2003 and the redbirds died on November 3 2003. WHYYYYYYYYY 😢😭
Kevin Montes maybe later than that
So the R 62 are not gonna be Retired until 2021
The only propulsion i think is the best is the R110A's
But why isn’t the MTA ordering NTTs for the 6 line, also the 1 and 3, the R62as aren’t gonna last longer, they should’ve been retired
The R32s and R42s are older than the R62s. Thats why they are focusing on those. Besides the R62/a aren't probably gonna be replaced by 2030
Well these cars are vandalized badly.
The MTA typically retires trains when they've been in service from 30-50 years, so the R62As will probably be retired around 2025.
Is the 6 getting any trains back in return?
Bryan Li not until the mid 2020s when they get the brand new cars
Yes. They will. The car numbers will be between the mid :7900s to 8000s . Not sure yet 🤔
Kevin Montes those numbers are already in use
Nah just the r62s
Till the R262s

RIP R142A 6 Trains 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
They could have put the r142s on the 7 in the first place while replacing the redbird fleet and leave the r142As on the 4 & 6 trains
Jeff Mao The R142s were in 10 car sets, so unless you wanted to cut service year round, that option was not feasible.
Besides, I’m glad they waited because with this, the 7 line will be automated, and with the R62As returning to the 6, frequency and customer service will increase since there will be extra trains for the 6 and useful LED indicators to denote Bronx local and express service (and consequently, service to Parkchester or Pelham Bay respectively).

The 4 line getting the remaining r142a cars
NYC Trainfan yup!
The thing is I don’t mind the r142a’s on the 4, I just don’t understand why the 6 has to suffer with R62A’s. Like it was fine when the 6 had R142A’s and the 4 and 5’s had R142’s, but if you’re gonna give the R142A’s to the 4, why not give some R142’s to the 6???
@R179 F Train Well yeah not the entire fleet
Wow it kind of feels like a jinx (with the swapping of these cars) because of the film: "The Taking of Pelham 123". At least leave one R142A for the memorie's of that film (loool).
Kai Freeman Why do that when they can just buy the movie online. Besides, the MTA wants to consolidate the parts inventory for the IRT Yards, so its better if there be no R142As on the 6 line now that they have the R62As.
In addition, the R142a in the film for the most part was not a real R142A. It was actually a retrofitted R62A to give it the appearance of an R142A for exterior filming, and the interior of the cars was filmed on a Queens set that resembled an R160. They did not use an actual R142A since they could not operate as single units. The only time they used a real R142A was during the beginning of the film during the scene when John Travoltas character was hijacking the train at a station, which by the way, was filmed on the IRT Flushing platforms at Grand Central on the then-Times Square-bound Track.

There are Equipment changes. MTA wants the (6) to be completely R62A and the R142A's had no where else to go and i know they could of stayed but the (4) i guess needed them more.. Well blame the (5) line for this. since some of there R142's went out of passenger service the (4) had to give up some R142 sets and then the (4) needed some R142A's because they didn't wanna be less on trains. So thank the (5) if this didn't happen we would still have 6 sets of R142A's running on the (6) today.
Care to explain why some R142's went out of passenger service if you know?
Some R142's needed to be repaired and had issues with the Air Conditioner and brake issues

They need the 6 train models to be a R160A and R160B instead of R62"s
mike liburd R160s can’t run on the A Division. Here’s how the car assignments should be for the 2, 4, 5, and 6 lines:

(5): R142 6721-7140 (shared with 2)
(4): R142 7141-7180, 1101-1250. R142A 7591-7810

Kevin Montes What do you mean no? Why get rid of the r62as right now? I mean it's a waste of train cars. I mean have the 4 and 6 lines switch equipments with each other:
4-r62as
6-r142s,r142as
That’s not gonna happen. The (4) gets more R142A and the (6) will no longer get R142A
Noo put r68s on the 45 trains keep the r142a on6 and r142
Noooooooooo rip
Do it i whant them to keep the r142a put r68s on 45 and some on the 6
Carmen Marte R68s can’t run on the A Division. Here’s how the car assignments should be for the 2, 4, 5, and 6 lines:
(2): R142 6301-6720 (shared with 5)
(5): R142 6721-7140 (shared with 2)
(4): R142 7141-7180, 1101-1250. R142A 7591-7810
(6) R62A 1651-1900, 1961-2150.
That is better for fleet uniformity.
@@TheRailLeaguer shut up that was a typo how stupid are u he meant to press the 2 button but accedently pressed the 9 button
see i did i typo i pressed 9 instead of 8
@@TheRailLeaguer that was a typo he presses 8 instead of 2
Bring R142A back to 6 train
Nelson Why do that when there are enough R62As to cover all 6 line service, plus a few extra trains for more service. Plus, the 6 deserves the R62As, while Flushing riders can treat themselves with the R188s to support the growing ridership in the growing neighborhoods of Flushing, Corona, etc.
Its soooo hard to say goodbye to yesterday

The 4 line, soon to be moved to the 7 line.
BenTheMiner / MTA Railfanner no it’s not going to the 7 line!
What car numbers will get converted?
Yes. They will. The (7) will get 4 new cars very soon.
Kevin Montes no they will not! A R142a conversions ended already! The R142as were only converted into R188s from 7211-7590! So it’s not going to happen!
They can't do this to r142a's they can't I won't let them
same
Noel's lego vids Don’t worry. You can still catch them on the 4, and soon, the 42nd Street Shuttle.

@@nightmareproductions8166 Maybe we'll make the R142 5 Train as a boy.
No Fair the 4 Can just use the R142s And The 6 Get R142A
Orlando Mojica Why? It would be better if the 6 line is 100% R62As and the 4 can have the leftover R142As to boost service on the line to serve the (sort-of) increasing ridership along the 4 line corridor.
Ohh good point
Orlando Mojica It would be better if the 42 trains they so need for the 4 line be R142 and R142As. They have slightly wider doors to make dwell times short.
Oh ok
It would be better is R62A's go on the 4 and 5
Bravesmalltoast I agree! Plus R62as would be better on the 2! But in my opinion, I think that the R62as are great on the 2 and 4 trains!
Before there were R62's on the 4, what happened?
Bravesmalltoast what do you mean?
There were R62's on the 4, what happened to them?
Bravesmalltoast oh the R62s from the 4 went to the 3!
