    Hey, minor correction, it won't work with VA2 Dreamcasts, as that doesn't have the connector the MODE uses. But it will work with VA0 and VA1. VA0 is the launch version, and I believe the VA1's are the most common. You can tell by a number inside a circle, on the bottom of the Dreamcast, which version it is. It'll say 0, 1, or 2, you want 0 and 1.

    I don't even have a Dreamcast or Saturn but I love modern accessories for older consoles such as this! I don't miss any of this kind of videos Lon, it's sad to see these don't do as well as the rest.

    Got a Dreamcast a few days ago. It is having disk issues. May consider something like this if the issue persists.

    It's a great product. i have mine installed in my Saturn right now. I'll likely get another one for my Dreamcast later on down the road. LaserBear is supposed to be working on a 3D printed part that will make it much easier to remove the SD card much like they have done with the GameCube and GC Loader.

    Good overview Lon. Was fun watching you install these live also.
    It's really a shame that a decently priced solution isn't available for Saturn-only ODE and/or quality component cables. In order to upgrade from s-video I have to buy a cable for a console I dont own (Genesis) and an adapter ($~70), and to get a quality ODE I need to pay extra to have it support a console I don't own (Dreamcast). Would be really nice if someone released a reasonably priced cable ($40 or less) and the M0DE would have been more user accommodating instead of assuming that everyone who owns a dreamcast also owns a saturn or vice versa.
    Oh well. Looks like I'm sticking to burned CD's and the good ol' Pseudo Saturn Kai for 2020. Maybe the Satiator will release eventually and be decently priced. This current trend of over-engineered crap for the Saturn is pretty lame. The other options are not high quality and it feels like the makers of these products are trying to capitalize on the fact so many poor options exist and they are the only other choice. Fingers crossed for 2021.

    I wonder if it's a way to print out a 3-D case that allows you to have both this mod install and also the CD drive install and use maybe a switch to switch between the twoif you're gone this far to model system you're not really worried about keeping it one hundred percent original and that will be an interesting thing if someone can do it

  • @RetroRook
    @RetroRook Před 4 lety

    Playing Japanese games on a US Saturn is pretty easy. You just need an Action Replay Plus cartridge. They cost $30-$40 and can be found pretty easily on Amazon or eBay. If you want to play burned games on the Saturn you need a Pseudo Saturn cartridge which can be made from an Action Replay Plus cart or you can buy one on eBay for a little more than the cost of an Action Replay Plus cart. Both solutions are pretty simple and don't require any modification to the actual Saturn console. At this point in time ODEs are pretty much taking over. There have been ones for the 3DO, PlayStation, Saturn, Dreamcast, PC Engine CD. But the MODE is pretty slick looking.

    • @sibinzanov6673
      @sibinzanov6673 Před 4 lety

      Or you could just use Saturn Region Patcher to patch games for your region and then disc swap. I understand that this here is a superior solution (no burning cd-rs and everything is way more organised), but with a price like this, they are kind of having a laugh, I mean you can buy a brand new Xbox One X for just a bit more.

    They need to make one of these devices for the PS2

    • @TheRestartPoint
      @TheRestartPoint Před 4 lety

      Not necessary. Get a SATA based clone "Network Adaptor" for fat PS2, these can be bought very cheaply on Ebay, Aliexpress etc, then you can add a SATA HDD/SSD to your fat PS2 in the gap which was already available for the purposes of HD/online games back in the day, and put some software on it called "HD Loader" , you also need some special software on your computer to inject the games onto the drive before you put it in the PS2, as they need to be in their own individual partitions etc, the software will do this for you. This then enables you to do all this for much cheaper than buying an especially made thing from TerraOnion etc. It also requires no soldering or changes to your hardware and you can still use your original optical drive when you want as that is not affected at all and is still in place. You can also play foreign game images . This is presumably one of the reasons why companies like TerraOnion haven't made an ODE for PS2 (yet) it's not a priority, but it would be nice one day as there's a few PS2 games that dont work with HD Loader, and its admittedly not as user friendly to set up as the MODE. . czcams.com/video/-0m3vc46XnM/video.html

      its crazy priced, with dual-console functionality being paid for no matter if you need it or not, even though its not an easy swap if you even wanted to use it that way. i'm waiting for satiator to see if they can pull something decent off there.

  • @Deltax5
    @Deltax5 Před 4 lety

    I see there is a extra cable you can buy for extra features lto enable resetting to menu, disc swapping, 50/60hz automatic switching on Saturn, and access LED implementation. But requires soldering. It's something extra thou, you don't have to have it. Id skip it as my soldering skills aren't grate.
    I want to see what regular harddrives are like as it's less expensive. Someone told me there might be a ventilation problem for harddrives that would make it to hot. Well atleast for the saturn, the dc may be ok. IDK gotta see a actual user review first. Maybe i can grab a ssd when amazon prime day starts whenever they decide to do it because of the delay of this virus.

    • @TheRestartPoint
      @TheRestartPoint Před 4 lety

      In my experience, it's best not to buy the first version of TerraOnion products as they will bring out hardware revisions later which work better and have more features. That's what happened with their Super SD System 3 for PC Engine anyway. I didnt buy it day one, but I just got the third revision which has had a number of video/audio problems completely fixed and works perfectly
