MSG Performing live from Hamburg,1981.[3] Michael Schenker(Guitar) Gary Barden(Rhythm Guitar) Chris Glen(Bass) Paul Raymond(Keyboards/Rhythm Guitar/B.Vocals) Cozy Powell (Drums) [RIP]
"Michael Schenker is truly a guitar virtuoso, and this performance is a testament to his unparalleled skills and musical genius. From his early days with the Scorpions to his time with UFO and then forming the Michael Schenker Group (MSG), Schenker has left an indelible mark on the world of rock and metal. His unique style, characterized by melodic solos and innovative riffs, has inspired countless guitarists around the world. Watching him perform 'Into the Arena' live in 1981 brings back so many memories of the golden era of rock. Kudos to the entire band for such an electrifying performance, and a special shoutout to Cozy Powell, whose drumming legacy will forever remain unmatched. Rock on, Schenker! 🎸🤘
Hi Angelo, some interesting guitar players have said Michael was an influence: Kirk Hammett, Dave Mustaine, Dave Meniketti, Rory Gallagher mentioned him, Slash loves him, Warren DeMartini & George Lynch were influenced by him, Billy Corgan ...John Norum, Yngwie Malmsteen tipped their hat to him. Not bad, eh ?!
@@mc5869Absolutely agree,Michael Schenker is not underrated by true hardock and heavy metal musicians and fans ,but by mainstream massmedia bulshiters!!!!!!!
I saw him at a club in vancouver 5 years ago he had all 3 singers from the 5 albums..needless to say it was most entertaining..no more then 200 people and i got my ticket for 20 ducks..sweet deal..saw the black crows for 40 buks 3 weeks later ...then 2 months later mr biff bifford came saxen shenker n the crows 100 buk..alchohol 300
"Underrated" LMAO. You contradict yourself. How could he be a "musician's musician" and be underrated at the same time? You are either fantasizing that you are in possession of some secret knowledge and special insight the rest of the world lacks, or you haven't got a clue what the word "underrated" means.
It's not just as if Schenker is a great guitar player (maybe the greatest guitar player in rock/metal history), he's a phenomenal composer/songwriter as well. This is what sets him apart from greatly skilled guitar players, who couldn't write more than 2 captivating solos in their life, and what puts him at the level of a guy like Ritchie Blackmore. In fact, I would also say Schenker is one of the greatest composers/songwriters in rock/metal history. I feel as captivated while listening to Into The Arena, Lost Horizons, On And On, and Captain Nemo as I do when listening to great classical music.
"Underrated" LMFAO. Rock's greatest players cite him as an influence. You either know nothing about the world of rock guitar, or you're confused as to the meaning of the word "underrated."
I will never forget the first time I heard about MSG. I was just starting to really get into music, and it was a very exciting time. I started buying Metal magazines like Circus and Hit Parader. I was reading a mag and there was an ad for MSG's 2nd album, the logo with the V and red MSG was so cool I ran out and bought it. I have been a huge fan ever since.
I love that slightly melancholic tone Schenker has, it makes him unique amongst heavy rock guitarists. It's that trademark sound that raises him above the pack, up there with Blackmore and Uli Jon Roth
What that is, he is using minor scales, some arpeggios, mixing that in with blues scale, major. He does not really use effects pedals much, Just a wah pedal and a wall of amps, most of the time. He never mindlessly shreds, he does not ever sound like boring shred olympics, like some guys do.
For me, this era of MSG is hard rock at it's best! Is their any band Cozy Powell doesn't make WAY better? What a great drummer. And this era of Schenker is my favorite. His playing, writing, and his cool factor, are at his all time career high.
My youth! Rainbow, MSG, Sabbath with Dio and Ozzy with Randy/Jake e lee/Don Airey was what kept me in my Room toll mid 80s. After that it was pretty much over!
Whitesnake maybe? Did he improve them compare to Iain paice, and did Ansley Dunbar improve on cozy? Also Sabbath? Not hating on cozy I think he's amazing. Rainbow and msg he definitely improved
That’s the day I had the car accident with Michael’s sister Barbara and Mark Paganini. We were heading from Hanover to Hamburg to meet Michael at the concert but my VW Porsche hit an icy spot on the highway and we flipped over five times. Luckily we all survived but the car was totaled. We all were taken to the hospital but only Barbara stayed because she had surgery on her knee the same night. Mark P. and I headed to Hamburg to catch up with Michael. After the concert we had to go to reception from the record company, and later that morning Rudolph drove us home to Barbara’s apartment in Hannover.
I like how Paul Raymond introduces a legend.- "On the drums, the man behind The Jeff Beck Group, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and now we got him: COZY POWELL!".
When Cozy Powell passed away, I was really absent-minded. The unique way of hitting his drums impressed him. I was a genius. He will be reborn and become a genius drummer. 💖☺
Yes - if you think about it, he was always in demand and played with some of the best outfits on the planet, all of whom were happy to have him in their lineups. RIP Mr Powell.
Cozy, Raymond & Glenn are such a brilliant compliment to Schenker on this 'live' version. It's truly a Supergroup. A time capsule of Rock perfection in 1981! Gary did well on rythm guitar too..
While Michael Schenker is most definitely under-rated, Alex Lifeson is not. Lifeson has received all manner of notoriety and accolades. Schenker on the other hand...who, IMHO is far more talented than Lifeson, has not.

But hardly ever mentioned - shame
Richard Bird He deserves more.

Listen to UFO‘s Stranger in the night and you get the full dose of MS and his art on guitar
EVERYONE wanted Schenker in the late 70's. That included The Ro.ling Stones, Aerosmith and Ozzy Osbourne.
