It's better to say "climate change"
This year's abnormally cold weather was caused by a sudden stratospheric warming event one of the strongest on record which reverses the dominant sw winds to a northerly.
Events in the Pacific causes the ssw to weaken much earlier.

If we have 4 days of let's say 40 degrees and the rest of June as now is rubbish. Will it be classed as one of the warmest June's
May was classed as the Warmest because we had warm nights. However, you can't do much at night, and the daytimes were overcast
    Another washout summer
A couple of weeks to longest daylight day and then the nights draw in

Never cast a clout till May be out, meaning don’t change your winter clothes until June, is an old saying as May is often cold. As one who was born in June, I often remember that the month is often disappointing, cold and miserable, and if I seem to recall the North Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November, and this puts the UK squarely in the frame for a hurricane during this time.
