Dude 3 HOURS!? Can only imagine how much effort went into this. Let’s goooo!
Oah ship
Mah boi, this video is what all true CZcamsrs strive for!
These are the electric type pokemon. You must gather each!
@@charlessegale6493 Thanks for remembering the true King of Hyrule.
Every Scott’s Thoughts fan: “I just wonder what Scott’s Thoughts is up to?”
Didn't anticipate sitting down this Saturday afternoon, debating whether to spend 3 hours watching Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" or a video exhaustively comparing the potential of Magneton & Electrode in Pokemon Yellow
Only to find there's bonus material - magneton in pokemon red 😅
You just happened to make the correct choice.
Play at 1.5 speed and if I’m running errands, I just leave it on. He gets the play back time and I get to check in later on final tesults
Read culture of critique
I can't imagine debating that either, since the answer is so obvious.
This video has everything. Weird Gen 1 mechanics, unusual strategies, and serendipitous timing that never could've been scripted or recreated. This is Scott's magnum opus and I am in awe. I was on the edge of my seat for the better part of three hours.
That person who kept asking for this is gonna be ecstatic
The cat at around 1:53:56 threw me off for a hot second. I was legit looking out the window for a few seconds thinking a stray cat or escaped pet was nearby 😂
I just heard it too! I’m glad I’m not the only one
Came to comment section to see if anyone else heard Churro 😂
I love this video's title. I hope the CZcams algorithm loves it too.
Yeah. It's telling that only three words in that entire title that *DON'T* start with E. I'm reminded of when Ryan of BrainScratch Commentaries makes alliterative titles, especially about Super Mario 64's Lethal Lava Land.
Scott then proceeds to make a Sandslash run, and then gets frustrated by Exeggutor, rinse and repeat. A team of pure evil.
Truly. The champion's team is fantastic against solo Pokemon. It's a good example of why having a diverse team is a good idea.
Amazing video! Amazing that this is 10 minutes longer then Dune 2.
When you finish this yellow series and are doing more backports I think Steel type Magneton vs Hisuian Electrode would be a funny call back. Hisuian Electrode might even be legitimately good since it is neutral to ground.
And Sandy Shocks
backported Yellow run of Hisuian Electrode is such a funny idea, it has to happen.
The work that went into this video. Top tier. Keep it up. Even through the rough times.
Ive been waiting for this for so long. And THREE HOURS!! Magneton has been my favourite since a kid and im in my thirties now. Thanks for this Scott hope you are doing good my g x
What did you think of magnezone? I thought it was an interesting evolution. That and when they gave that line the steel type.
@@Aliyah_666 I really think they could of done better with the design. Gamefreak missed the trick making one look like an atom with loads of little magnemites flying around a big ball of them in the middle.
Me: a meal usually covers them fully, no chunking needed.
Scott the next day: Here, have three meals' worth of video in one giant :).
1:04:20 Double Team instead of Double Egde!
That sort of thing is bound to happen. Great video! I really enjoyed the thorough breakdown of rules in the beginning, even if I generally knew a lot of them from prior videos. Nice to have them all in one spot!
These huge videos are crazy, and I appreciate the grind you put into it. You’re the man, Scott.
Hey Scott just wanted to say i'm so proud of all the work you've done for this channel. I love this content, all of your videos are so well produced. Your videos have gotten me through some pretty tough times recently and every time you upload my day gets a little but better. I've been donating through patreon for a few weeks now and you never fail to disappoint, i know my money is going into something amazing. Keep up the great work, this team you've assembled, this community you've built and this channel you've created is something really special, thank you man. Edit* Hey i'm in the credits as Gloom!
Love long vids! You are my melatonin!; i can finally sleep well knowing that i will sleep well! And that ill have a treat in whatever i missed after falling asleep after i wake up!
Oh my, 3 hours? Thank you for the content Scott
Holy shit, this is almost 3 hours, I'm so ready for this. The hard work is greatly appreciated, Idk how else to express it or put it into words, but thanks for all the work put into these runs. It's super great 👌.
I know stuff has been crazy for you. Just know the effort is so worth it. These videos are always a blissful happy moment in my week. Always here to hear your thoughts, Scott. Keep up the great work
I think there's a few reasons why people often say water's good for solo runs despite what ends up happening in these runs:
1) It doesn't get walled by either of the gyms that are supposed to counter it since Surge is awful and Ice Beam is in Celadon.
2) The Champion team only has an Electric type in Yellow, and it's easy to mix things up with Red/Blue/FireRed/LeafGreen.
3) Since it doesn't start struggling until the very end, non-optimized solo runs are likely to have extra experience by this point. It seems to me like a lot of the reason they struggle so hard on the Champion is because they're able to get through the rest of the game without much extra training, so then getting a good time with them ends up being an RNG fest of trying to squeak through the Champion fight without too many resets because it gets better theoretical times than just doing the extra training.
Seeing Electrode's speed go down to 1 was absolutely hilarious.
three hours flew by. this was amazing story telling and it’s easy to see this was a well refined passion project. great job!!!

I always learn something new of your format every episode. Thank you for the explanations and transparency!
My boi Electrode! Love both Pokémon, all the Gen 1 electric designs were so fun.
This was a fun listen and amazing work you put in!
I love your transparency. It allows me to evaluate your time in a way that lets me take into consideration things that you know but are not exactly visible to me.
Also I love a little bit of behind the scenes stuff 😉.
Wow, a three hour video?! Thanks to you and the crew for the massive effort on this. ( had to watch over a few sittings, totally worth it. )
Not a commenter but Scott’s been through the wringer with software this year and deserves the views!
Yeah; had he decided to do his technology-based approach this year, he would be dead in the water given that in one fell swoop all the technology he needs to do stuff has been discontinued.
It’s really hard not to picture the Steiner Maths promo when you start breaking down the numbers lol. Great content man
The numbers don't lie and they spell disaster!
Man Scott Steiner is 🐐
Scott, I want to say THANK YOU for the hard work on these videos. Your content is amazing and we always look forward to new uploads.
Scott’s at the top of his game with this one! That incredible game knowledge leads into even better commentary. Great stuff.
Only recently discovered your channel, and was super stoked to see a video featuring Magneton! It's one of my two favourite Pokemon (alongside Absol), so seeing it reach a sub-50 minute time was exciting to watch through. :)
Welcome to the channel! It's good to have you here!
well worth the length. had to watch it in parts, but was very interested in seeing the whole thing. I love the amount of effort you went through trying to do these pokemon some justice, as it must have gotten a bit less fun after a bit. always looking forward to your next video or stream!
Outstanding! This was great, Scott! Thanks for all the effort and hard work, as always! Cheers
The second you called the Hitmonchan incompetent, I knew the freeze was coming lol. But I didn't expect the thaw! Bruno is a sweetheart sometimes.
Exhaustive does not even begin to describe your methodology. I hope you feel that it is time well spent, because for me, it's why I am watching. Your granular level of detail and precision is incredible and has nigh on single handedly reinvigorated my love for these games. Top quality time on every video
Scott you’re such a legend man. This hard work will go a long way. God bless you
This was a great podcast to listen to while at work. Great job!
YES! three hour video!! Thank you so much scott for all the content!!!
Gen 1 &2 content is my fave! Thanks so much!
I haven’t watched yet, but I’m anticipating that this will be the Scottest video of all time. Thanks for the mega video
We got a whole double feature! 3 hours of Scott! Thank you for this masterpiece
I'm here because I saw a thumbnail of a guy with a Magneton, an Electrode, and Pokémon Yellow, all of over 2hrs. It's a no brainer.
I thought this was a stream VOD I had missed based on the run time. Scott is out here making Marvel movies. I get now why this one took longer than usual.
I like this one. Good work. Third time watching already
That final electrode champion strat made my jaw drop I can't lie. Amazing video x
Oh my goodness. What a spectacularly unexpected ride that was! That was quite the performance from both Pokémon... eventually. Who ever would have thought that bide of all things would be the answer to the champion's sandslash (and Oak's Venasaur). I only wish i could have been there for the initial drop of the video. Loved it! Sorry you suffered through so many play throughs with 2 electric Pokémon just to entertain us all. Thanks Scott for the show. I cant wait to see whats coming in the future!
Scott, I already appreciate this video just from the title. I would love to see your impressions of these electric 'mons across the first three gens, as they are all available in each of them.
This is a masterpiece. I'm only really a gen 1 watcher but this blew my expectations out of the water. Especially the new overlay showing damage for enemies.
I'm also a big magneton believer so that's a good point for me.
Wow what a massive video. It was very fun to watch, keep it on. :)
Pffieuw thank Scott, we have heard venomoth's type again.
I was starting to doubt myself again. I though he was electric/steel this week.
But thank God for Scott, letting us know it's ground.
Love the vids, keep on the good work.
I love the fact that we still get a "nice" on 69 hp. I wondered for a while about these two performance. As always you delivered and went beyond, never stop being you man.
Scott's Thoughts going beyond where most movies go, for that juicy 3 hour special
Man I love the long videos!
That picture when you were showing the miscellaneous data collection in the code with all the strips of color scratched my brain just right. So aesthetic.
Thanks a lot. I'm always looking for videos from you past my coveted 1.5 hour mark for sleep and this blows it away.. will be watching this video for 2 weeks hahah
(Ps - I think just "An exhaustive electric expose" would be a clickable title!)
Exhilarating! Excellent! Eclectic! Eco-conscious, even!
I was excited for the magneton run when I saw your game hook video.
Just when you think Scott has hit max level, he busts out an Exhaustive Analytics Stone and takes you on a three hour, two game whirlwind tour of electric type shenanigans!
Best v.s. video yet!!
Thanks for your work 🙌
A powerful, revelatory and stunning documentary 10/10
Phew. This one has been being teased for quite some time. 2 very awesome pokemon facing off. This is gonna be crazy! I'm really happy to finally see these 2 make it to the channel. I think Magneton is gonna be the winner here. I'm not sure if electrode has a chance, but I'm sure I'll be surprised
Excellent video as always =)
Magneton and Electrode have scarce moves to pick from to this day, so it was interesting seeing you make the most of it.
What. A. Project. Awesome! Truly incredible
Lets gooooo. 3 hours? Good work scotty!
So excited!!! Been waiting for this fire so long!
Thank you Scott. You liking my comment means so much!
It’s nice to see you’ve come up with a name for the Elite Four hiker, Bruno has a nice ring to it.
wow....top ten in the comments :) GG scott. Still loving all our videos :)
side note i did my first speedrun the other day and i beat your tentacruel run time the other day by...4 seconds T.T still working on those optimizations.
I got so excited to see this come out this afternoon, then saw the time on it, and had to eagerly wait for bedtime to actually hit it 😂😂
Can't wait to see how they do!
Almost 3 hours. Sheeesh. I better watch this tomorrow, and not this late. And I see what you did with the title. Nice detail.
Be like me, and fall asleep to the dulcet tones of Scott.
@@Gungho73 i can't. Too distracting. Having ADHD and autism has its upsides and its downsides.
@@taiwanisacountryUnfortunate. I'm autistic too but for me I listen to audio because I have a ear adjusting issue, where when im in a total quiet room my ears SQUELCH as they readjust trying to hear things that aren't there. It's super awful. So nighttime videos are a must.
@@Gungho73why would you fall asleep to it, then your just missing the video
Very interesting just how much better Magneton is in Red. It's amazing how much pressure is alleviated when there isn't a pangolin-shaped shadow looming over it the entire run.
This was a wonderful video! I loved seeing you dissect every possible way these Pokemon could have defeated the champion. While lengthy, it felt essential to show the pros and cons to each approach and it effectively showcased why you settled on the ultimate strategy you used. Spoilers below:
When I saw you talk about mimicking Slash with Magneton, specifically at 1:27:00 when you showcased the turn sequence, I thought to myself, "why not just take the KO on Sandslash, then OHKO Alakazam, then heal against Exeggutor?" That approach would certainly take longer than the Bide strategy (5 levels higher it seems, based on the damage calculators you displayed), but might be worth considering if you want a consistent Magneton performance. I do want to emphasize that this video is fantastic and I appreciate all the hard work you put into all your videos!
Always love your ittle asides explaining the mechanics, I had no idea that the game actually divides base speed by two and divides that by 256 for the speed, but makes sence when I think about it. I dont know programming but i do know 256 is an important number in this games programming
Sitting here watching season 1 of pokemon right now, damn near in tears and then watching this... my childhood nostalgia is real
I've got to say, I do think you've got your rules aboslutely spot-on!
You're controlling for all of the factors that are outside a Pokemon's control (encounters, trash-can puzzle etc.) without removing the elements that make the game what it is (badge-boosts, 1/256 misses etc.)
I think you've found that sweet-spot between absolutely scientific and easily repatable and relevant to the way we play the games ourselves. As you said in your Yannma re-ranking stream, you could optimise the routing between each and every point in the game and get a fixed time, whilst just simulating every battle to make it a perfectly scientific comparison. However that removes all the elements of the game that actually make it a game. The run becomes such an abstraction from what it actually was that it becomes almost meaningless because none of us could ever repeat it in the game. Kinda like how MPG figures for cars are often way off from how it performs in the real world. Whereas what you do is something I could have achieved as a kid simply with a game shark to set my DVs and starter, plus some good encounter luck early on.
Meanwhile at the more casual and "you could do this yourself" end of things you have poketubers like JRose and MDB. They produce content that's very entertaining, and is stuff I could repeat myself on my DS now if I wanted to, but it doesn't produce results as meaninful and deep in analysis as yours.
Lastly, I just wanted to say I'm glad to see you back to producing full length videos. I know you've had a few set-backs of late, and the stream videos have been fun, but your fully produced content is awesome and I'm glad to have more of it. I can't believe how much better you've gotten since I started watching your stuff in 2020. I'm pretty sure your Magnemite video was the first one I watched, and the difference from that to this is just incredible!
The answer to why koga uses self destruct likely has to do with the Ninja being amongst the first humans to utilize explosives in combat. Subtlety with a bang, you could say.
Scott really got tired of answering questions and decided he would address every question he could think of in 2024
Wish I could like this one more than once. such a good video
fantastic video, I haven't watched it yet but I just know it will be
Your videos sure have come a long way. I remember back when you were still trying to work out what data mattered for your rankings and openly contemplating redoing certain Pokemon as the old metrics didn't compare quite right to the modified metrics.
The video I never knew I needed 🙌🏼
Watching these videos is my self-care routine
I was about to start a big grind on Runescape when this dropped and I was so happy to have this on a second monitor while I did it.
Scott. Scott! Oh my god, now I need to find 3 hours, or maybe half that at double time, to see this thing since it's gotta be good.
I look forward to the Trainer Artwork you'll get for "Rocketman" that has him wearing Elton John Glasses and other attire
3 hours of Scott is a great way to spend a Saturday.
Day 46 of commenting every video until Magneton gets a Pokemon Yellow solo run!
We're finally here, folks, and it's glorious!
I'm sorry to say we had to put my dog down this morning, so I'm grateful for the distraction
I made it to the end after 3 bedtime watches. I must be a real one, BROTHER
You know you're in for a doozy when Scott doesn't even introduce the Pokemon until 10 minutes in.
Woah, 3 hours??? I'm in for a treat!! 😊
Prediction for it to be the best video so far
Loved the breakdown for options to beat Sandslash as someone who has done similar levels of turn by turn planning for Tera Raids in SV (funnily applicable there). Especially for 7-stars you can't just spam Azu Belly Drum and eventually win, and there are turns of setup or attacks that are outside of your control in real time to take into account as well. You need specific pokemon with EV spreads, tera types, and movesets to be able to tank all possible attacks and either set up screens/support for the team, heal, or drive progress on the gargantuan HP bar. I personally love this kind of stuff though, because it forces those who make custom builds to problem solve and prioritize consistency when it's hard to come by. Big one-monster bosses in most RPGs kind of tend to not exist in Pokemon (six pokemon that are swept with the right setup vs 1 big immediate threat that's hard to take down), so it's a nice change of pace putting more constraints on the player like these videos do. Flow chart stuff is kind of my jam as a DnD person too, it's just cool to see these things get explored in pokemon speedruns. Thanks!
23:10 Scott, you could achieve a better result tackling Sandy's Pidgeys. Tackle will do around 40-45%. You are likely to 2HKO with Electrode's critical hit chance, and it has that extra 5% accuracy with Tackle. Tackle could've been used with Electrode more against low hp/def pokes.
You inspired me to do monotype challenge runs in different games and I am not exaggerating when i tell you the most difficult run I've done out of the 20 total was absolutely electric only in yellow. It is painful how little they really get.
2nd most difficult was solo fire type in emerald. Roxanne took a very long time.
Holy hell, three hours? What a massive commitment
Is this Scott's magnum opus?
It certainly strikes as such. SO in depth! Fantastic work.
The verses videos are my absolute favorite 😁
Almost three hours of silky-smooth Scott voice is very refreshing on a Saturday after a long week, so thank you for that! Also, would you consider uploading that extended intro (where you explain your playthrough rules and methodology) as its own separate video and link to it in the descriptions of future videos? That seems like it would be helpful for future viewers.
Thank you for leaving the meow in :D
