Love you girl you’re amazing and thank you so much for enough information I’ll definitely try! 💞
I made this leave in 2 weeks ago and all I can say is WOW!!! The only difference is I used Mango butter bc my hair prefers over Shea butter and I used more Btms as I did not have cetyl alcohol and I added 3 Tbsp of Rose water bc I love the moisture of rose water. I have low porosity hair and it is the best leave in I have ever used in 8 years of being natural. It completely soaked into my hair. The ability to be heavy handed with my leave in bc I am not trying to conserve it bc it’s an expensive store bought product is very liberating. The preservative Germabend is really great. No smells in product or bacteria and I keep it in a cabinet with rest of my hair products. I made 8 oz and this weekend I plan on making a 16 oz batch. I think this will be a great starting base for me to experiment with like for a deep conditioner. Thank you, thank you, 🙏🏾 I look forward to many more of your genius recipes to guide me in my new Ayurvedic journey.
I appreciate the info on preservatives 🥰
You are brilliant! Very good information
Thanks for sharing.
I love your channel so much pls continue to make more videos
Just fabulous recipe. I love the idea of using tea bags to get the color and elements of a herb/ plant we may not all have
I love your channel.
Thank you so much dear, I really love how you take the time in explaining it. Just with your teachings, I am definitely going to be an entrepreneur some day. You are doing so great .
I've been searching for something like Luster's Pink Moisturizer but natural for a while. I think this is it 😍
I use organic rosemary as fragrance, hair strengthener, and preservative.
Definitely trying this recipe.
Thank you for all your videos. Very helpful information. Always looking forward to them.
I miss teaching high school science! That beaker be ought back great science teaching memories!
Thank you so much for this. Can we have a video on natural emulsifiers?
Just came across this. Very informative. I use Optiphen Plus in my handmade moisturizing body butters. Sometimes, after adding it, separation will occur. After researching, I learned this is normal and just requires more mixing either with a stick (immersion) blender or mixer. So, just so you know, your batch isn't bad, it just needs a little more work. I have never had my batches separate after doing the additional blending.
Lovvvvve this! Can’t wait to try it. Can I use euxyl as a preservative?
Just the fact that its pink and natural...sis im going to be making this!!
@@NowIAmNappy Hi, there is already cetyl alcohol in btms-50 right, so why the need to add it separately?
New Subscriber This Video U Definitely Breaking Down And Very Educational 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿💖
Thank u so much ma
I really like your recipe, with your gentle voice and the perfect way you explained everything, I rate you to be the best so far
Thank you for sharing! When transitioning to the winter, are there things that you might add or take out of this recipe?
Love the ingredient combination and how the colour & texture turned out!!
@Anna, me too! The ingredients ✔ off all the components of a good moisturizer/conditioner. The extra knowledge on preservatives is extremely helpful. She basically did all the work so we can shine. I'm grateful
Wow! You've been a blessing. I have actually made a batch of this which I added mango butter to the mix and it came out great. Thank you 😊 God bless and still looking forward to more like these, love 💘 ❤ from ghana 🇬🇭 ❤
I use optiphen and my batches never separate. I make sure to add it when the product has cooled down. The hibiscus mixture you made looks great by the way! 😊
Thanks I always add it during the cool down phase. It is known for randomly being problematic. I never had problems until that recipe. I’m glad it works for you
Lovely hair you got and you so beautiful
😍😍😍Came out rich and creamy. I had a similar experience with optiphen preservative😫.
Mmmm this looks delicious! I love the colour - how do you work out what amounts of each ingredient you use?
This will definitely be interesting
@@NowIAmNappy yes I did, I like the information about the preservatives.
New subbie. This video hit the nail on the head for me about why my own diy creamy mixture separated the second time I made my product. The first batch was perfect because I didn’t use optiphen with the wax. I thought it was because i had used too much cucumber. Even though i can still use my product, i know what i did wrong. Thanks for sharing sis!!
Wow your hair is looking sooo good - I'm inspired! What do you think has contributed most to your growth and thickness? Also, if I'm doing a butter/oil mix with glycerin will I need a preservative?
Tried this today and the Aloe Hibiscus leave-in...oh my word the slip is amazing. They both turned out great! God bless you for all this content and valuable information. Your recipes have revived the mixtress in me. Can't wait to try out the rest.
I made this yesterday! (Slightly differently as I had a different preservative and used aloe vera juice instead of fresh so it was a tiny bit more runny) I am in love with this! Its soo so moisturising amd my golden rose fragrance oil ELEVATED the gorgeousness. Thank you for this! 😍
Made this yesterday mine came out very thick but still very moisturizing...mine and my daughter's hair is super happy it never felt this softness...thanks so very much....
I really just wanna say thank you so much for this wealth of information. I’m passionate about natural hair and I’m experimenting so many things on my hair to find what works best for me, and eventually make great natural hair products for those around me. It seemed overwhelming at first when I started looking at preservatives and formulating trickier products especially when it contains water. I’m learning a lot here, I can’t wait to order my ingredients, I’m here in Central Africa and this lockdown doesn’t help with shipping products right from the US or Europe
I totally understand sis, its a lot to learn but it worth it! I'm glad I can be a resource to you
This is so cool how do you know all of this
I love love the beautiful pink you ended up with.. Looks like ice cream 😋
Well, for the Optiphen plus and Germall plus, you do have to add it when your mixed phases are still warm(not hot or cold). That way it will not interfere with the emulsion. Hope this helps!
@@Simply_Uche can you expantiate what you meant by when your mixed phases are still warm... Do you mean after mixing the oil phase and water phase, then allow it to get warm, add the germall plus then blend...Am I right?
@@gracey4613 Yes that's what I meant. Those preservatives are heat sensitive and need to be added in early during the cool down phase but not too early. This way your emulsion will not separate down the line
Love this recipe. I didn't have any preservatives. So I put hibiscus 🌺 leaves in olive oil for a few days infusing the oil with hibiscus properties. Then I add fresh aloe Juice to shea butter. Adding the hibiscus oil blend with Essential oils and I whipp with hand blender. I get a creamy rose colored blend. My hair loves it. I keep it in my fridge I also put some in freezer. When frozen, it has a cooling sensation on my scalp
👍👍
Thank you so much for this recipe. Would you do a recipe for a protein-moisture balanced deep conditioner, please?
@@NowIAmNappy Hello luv, were you able to concoct the moisture/protein balance deep conditioning treatment?
Hello love your energy and Optiphen Plus is one of my go to but one thing I have learned with optiphen is you must be so specific with timing and temperature. And some people use oil base optiphen when they need water based optiphen. So I understand that struggle. Love your video.
@@NowIAmNappy how do you know which preservative to use and how much to use?
Can you go more in depth on how to use Optiphen Plus? What temperature is best to use it and do you use water based optiphen when the product has more water than oil?
Hi, I just subscribed to your channel cos I really loved your explanations on the preservatives but I want to know if DIY's made with preservative shd be kept in refrigerator?
Love this and it’s amazing how you got such a great color on it. Have you used liquid germall plus as a preservative?
@@NowIAmNappy can't wait to hear your thoughts on it! Seems to be the easiest to find where I am
Oluwatitomi Davies I’ve talked about it in my video on preservatives, I hear it’s great for a wide range of pH and products
Definitely trying this. Thank you so much❤.
Please I have a question,at what temperature can a presentative be used in a formulation?
So each preservative is different. You need to read what the manufacturer says. For optiphen plus you add in the cool down phase or at a temp below 40degrees Celsius
Much, just package 2 containers for me pls.🤣🤣🤣Looks amazing
Hello how are you, I know this video is long past gone, but am so interested to kno how to use, cirtic acid and sorbic acid to my DIY hair products, I have tried it, but I think I don't get the right measurements. Can you do a video showing how to combine ingredients. Hope you get to see my request. Thank you.
Hello quick question do you have to add all the products u have listed I have everything but the alcohol one but I would like to try this. I have tried a fenugreek conditioner and I like it I like the way it comes out with the btms makes it creamier
Love love love your channel.... do you think this will work without the preservatives? What if I make enough for that one time use...???
if it's a one time use, you don't need a preservative. you can also store it in the fridge for about a week or two
This is lovely, can it last upto 2-3 months with the preservative? And can I use any oil if I don't have ayurvedic oil?
Hi! Can you write this recipe in percents so I can scale it up or down? Thank you!
I'm bored so I'm back here again in 10/2022 to make this formula. Thx Michelle 😊
Hello i am new to this. can you explain why cetyl alcohol and btms 50 was used?
Not related but when making aloe vera oil with fresh aloe how do ppl store it or preserve it?
Bravissima ci posso mettere il miele in questo momento non ho la glicerina grazie grazie grazie io amo ibisco
I have btms 25, cetearyl alcohol, and emulsifying wax, stearic acid. Which combination shall I use?
can you use regular BTMS or does it specifically have to be BTMS-50? Also can you use avocado butter if you are looking for a lightweight feel?
Hi, can I use Geogard 22? because there is really low availability of preservatives in my country, thank you
Any tips for this recipe minus the emulsion tool and the cetaryl alcohol?
What if you're don't have the blender that you use can we use hand mixer
So if you are doing coconut oil and Shea butter and aloe vera along with other oils do I need a perseverance and which one.
There are several types of preservatives in cosmetic products, I would like to know the name of the one used by you, if possible. I would like to make this hibiscus hair butter. I loved the video👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️😍
Hey sis, could I use an electric hand mixer or hand whisk instead of a stick blender??? If I used an electric hand mixer, would it change the product outcome??
Lovely video 😻
Yes, I've been waiting all the live long day for this video ( it's 5:18pm in the UK). 😂
I've made a couple of your oat based DIY's with great success. So, I really want to make this, but I only have btms 25 and no cetyl alcohol. Can I just use 15g of my btms 25?
Hi can you give me a simple recipe for this as I don't have most of these items, I've got aloe vera plant, aloe vera juice, and shea butter. Pls provide measurements as I'd love to make a new butter.
I made this today and I enjoy it, is there and way to make it thicker? I added guru gum but I am not a big fan of its texture.
You can add 5g more of Shea butter and take away 5g from the hibiscus tea
Thanks for all of you insightful information. I would like to know if your 'bad batch' started to separate straight away or over a period of time ?
It started to separate during the cool down phase so within an hour of putting it in.
Hi 👋
Hello! I love your videos. I usually use an old food blender to blend my hair products, but it is such a hassle to clean. I was wondering (if you don't mind) how much was your hand held blender? I saw some for like $100 plus but that is a lot. I also found some for less than $50. I was wondering if you think there is a difference in quality based on the prices. Thank you for your time and your videos!
I have a kitchenaid mixer the $50 one, i purchased on sale for $38. I also now have a commercial sized mixer. What I can say, the more expensive the blender, generally the stronger the rpm they will have. Honestly when I was making products for just myself the $50 one worked perfectly. Also if you get a good brand, they will replace it if under warranty. The one I have is here www.amazon.com/shop/nowiamnappy?isVisitor=true&listId=3GDN2L5VDMX6I
Hello, totally in-love with your channel, I'd like to know if you need preservatives for a diy growth oil ??
No as long as it doesn't have water in it, oil just need vitamin E as an antioxidant.
I would love to make this for my hair could the hand mixer work instead of the one u use?
looks gorgeous! I don't have cetyl alcohol & hates glycerine.
can I just use water to replace glycerin? and more btms 50 or cetearyl to replace cetyl?
Yes you can use water instead of glycerin and can use a butter instead of Cetyl alcohol
What do u think if germall plus preservatives
Great video.. twoquick questions. Do you need to have a background in cosmetic chemistry in order to make your own products? Secondly, how do you come up with formulations is it trial and error?
No, but no joke and no lie - you really need to be diligent and do your homework. Do you want someone/yourself to be seriously blinded or injured from one of your products? Not being nasty or snarky but some people are just looking to make a quick buck at our expense.
This was a great video with great preservative information. Thank you!
You do not need to be a cosmetic chemist but I highly recommend doing a lot of research on this and a lot of testing. Dont just make something once and put it out, join DIY blogs, research about making products. I do have a chemistry background so it is very helpful. So I have conditioner making books but because I've done research on all these products individually ( check out my blog) I know what will go well together. Some of it is trial and error but I spend hours researching.
Can this be used as a curling cream as well 🤔
If you don't have a scale, what are the measurements.
Can you convert the measurements
What a great recipe!! Is it possible to use this as a moisturizer for the skin as well?
Can I purchase this from you?
Can we use btms 225
Where can I find mango butter and air butter?
I absolutely love this content, especially since I am interested in starting my own hair care products. I had no clue about preservatives so this is sooo helpful. How long can the product last with preservatives?
Optiphen is ph sensitive. I use Euxyl 9020.
Sabz Khumalo it is! I check the pH and temp of all my products before using and it still caused separation. I’m experimenting with a number of preservatives including Euxyl!
I don’t know if you’ve mentioned before, please what is the function of Cethyl alcohol in your formulation ? Can Germaben II be considered as a natural preservative?
Cetyl alcohol is a fatty alcohol that thickens your mixture and adds more slip and moisture to your recipe. Germaben II is a synthetic preservative
Does my product need a preservative? czcams.com/video/qXUx7lDrD6g/video.html
