As Pastor of a Church I was offered a sneak preview of Journey to Bethlehem - along with my wife and kids. This movie is simply outstanding!
This is simply a beautiful retelling of the events leading up to the birth of Jesus. The costumes are good, the scenery and camera work create a worthy visual experience. The actors are well chosen and extremely likeable. This movie has managed to stay Biblically accurate and yet allow the characters to be human - like we are. There are real emotions and humor displayed, which allow us to connect more deeply with the reality and depth of this story.
I am trained in classical music and Theology and can say that I was pleased in many ways with this musical movie. The Jewish elements of arranged weddings, customs, agriculture and travel were all well depicted. I had wondered how they would handle the place of birth and was impressed that even in this detail this movie chose the correct locale.
Few are aware of just how dangerous and deranged King Herod was, and this movie along with a very credible performance by Antonio Banderas give Herod all that delusional jealousy and megalomania. History has shown that Herod had his wife, her mother, her brother and 3 of his sons murdered. Banderas shows off his vocal abilities and truly brings his character Herod to center stage with a full range of emotions. His song was a high point musically and dramatically.
The musical aspects far exceeded my expectations! Several of the songs will no doubt become top hits and I have no doubt this will become a staple for High School and College musicals. There is true musical talent in this music and even the coldest hearts will melt and shed tears. This movie is fun, touching and offers a human connection to the Bible’s greatest event. Suitable for all audiences!
You can certainly elect not to watch this enjoyable movie, but your comments about reality and history will require more study on your part. Bethlehem at that time was quite small and Herod's command may have only put to death 20 to 30 males (not something that would be added to historian's accounts).
There is ample evidence of Herod's deranged and lethal mindset, so this is no stretch.
Even the Smithsonian has made several statements concerning the accuracy of the Bible as a historical document - which has yet to be disproven.@@LiliAna-bq8lb
@joelweber3462 ,studying this awful prank is a waste of time from the moment you read about a god who urges his submissive slaves to paint their door frames with blood, so that the powerful and omniscient god will not make mistakes and will not kill their children, but only those of the enemies .... when a donkey, a snake and a burning bush speak .... when you read that no sinless people were found in Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities were destroyed, even there , the loving god did not care about babies at all, he did not forgive enyone....when you read that the so-called son of god died shouting „ My God, My God, why did you leave me? ” ... and similar atrocities in this holy shit 🙄

You know, sometimes, you need a good Biblical Epic to shake things up a bit to add a little more variety into the list of movies being released into the cinema these days. The fact that it's a musical AND has Antonio Banderas staring as the villain, consider me already buying my ticket and watching it Opening Weekend. I'm in, I just love musicals.

Questions about what I liked about the film and if there was anything I thought might improve it. It was so cool and the film was amazing!!!

I hosted a pre-screening of this film and will happily pay to go see it again! The music was so enjoyable, the comedic moments were really funny, and "The Greatest Story Ever Told" was delightfully re-told in a musical format. Cast and characters (Fig the Donkey!!) were outstanding! Vocals were strong. Choreography was authentic. As a music educator, the most beautiful musical moment for me was when the shepherd girl sang "Silent Night." Do not miss this movie!! Take your entire family! Ask your church to rent a theatre for a showing. It was really well done. Tutti Bravi, Affirm Films!!

Just got back from seeing it with my family! It was INCREDIBLE!!!! I loved every single character and song and every time a song ended I felt like I had to clap for a live performance! It was simply amazing and well cast and I laughed and even cried and got chills. It has been a long time since I felt myself glued to a movie screen. I want to see it again, my whole family does and we gifted tickets at the end as well because it was great family entertainment.
We are buying it and soundtrack asap!
We saw it in the theater tonight & my 3 teens, 12, 17, 18, loved it! My husband & I did too. We have 3 musicians in the family & their standards are high. The whole thing reiterates how regular people can be used greatly by God if we listen & obey, despite our normal fears. A very Biblical message! Believable, realistic, inspiring characters.
The acting, scenes, & (even) the singing was wow! Dramatic enough but never overdone, very fitting and touching- and nothing was cringe or Broadway. I was so surprised. I normally don't like most musicals unless they are exceptional! I'm buying the movie & soundtrack immediately!
It will be on many more times before Christmas in our house hopefully and then added to our family Christmas traditions each year.
Fresh, creative take on the biblical story that is definitely worth experiencing! Well crafted, sung, danced, acted, costumed, set, directed, and performed. Fun and yet emotionally impactful.

Why some more people who call themselves Christians and don’t read the Bible, can believe that this there’s truth in this? This is fairytale crap and nothing like the culture in biblical times which is what we should be teaching the children not this garbage.
Thank you all that were involved in making this movie. It is wonderful. The acting and singing is moving. I bought the DVD and have watched it 3 times. I never thought how much Mary and Joseph went through in her pregnancy. Can you imagine being 9 months pregnant and making the journey to Bethlehem. Love this movie.
Seeing this in theaters. My favorite songs are "O Come O Come Emmanuel", "Mary Mary Mary", "Celebrate This Brand New Life", and "It's Hard To Have Faith". I am hoping to purchase my meet and greet tickets for Darren's Christmas concert so I can tell Darren about this amazing movie!
I just watched this the other night..and it's one of the best musicals I've seen..I laughed..I cried..what an exciting way to tell the story of the birth of Jesus...my king! It's amazing!!

I screamed when Milo took off his hood and said, "Hi, I'm Joseph." It's like meeting Darren Criss at the stage door of Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
Was fortunate to go to a screening. They did a really nice job. Very entertaining with some funny parts but very biblically based. Can’t wait to see it again.

I am loving Fig, Mary's pet donkey. Also, when I saw the poster, I saw that Jesus is a real newborn baby and not a baby doll.

The director confirmed that Joseph had an affair with a man, completely leading Mary on for the entirety of the movie - fyi!!!! Hope that doesn't ruin Christmas - from a Church Going Christian. Certainly did for me. Also Doesn't Joseph Kind of look like Joseph Stalin?

I've watched this 3 Times, Love this movie so much!! this is some Disney Musical vibe with the biblical story.
A true masterpiece that I've seen twice already and one that I'll look forward to re-watching every Christmas from now on! What's not to like about it? It has everything - a great cast, great cinematography and a terrific soundtrack to boot with every song a winner in my opinion! If you've not seen it, what are you waiting for?! If you have seen it, go watch it again LOL! This film truly deserves the same meteoric success as 'The Greatest Showman' and as a personal plea to the film makers, could you please release the song instrumentals for people to cover and spread the word including myself! :-)

How can one believe the comments when there isnt even one criticism or negative word? I think the subject matter of sin, redemption, incarnation and the violent rejection of the world from killing baby boys in Bethlehem to the Cross deserves more humble reverance than clapping, snapping fingers and wanting to dance

I think most of these comments are fake; just a promotional stunt by the film company. People who make musicals about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ are satanic. People who watch musicals about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and enjoy them are ignorant of the Faith. We do not turn our salvation into a joke or a funny musical which insults the dignity of the mother of our Savior and her chaste, righteous, honorable spouse. This film is a travesty, as was Godspell and Jesus Christ Superstar. It is evil masquerading as good, fooling millions of ignorant people.
But it's EVANGELISM for the UNCHURCHED YOUNG NEXT GEN. That's who it was basically written for... not those who "say" they're already part of God's fam.
The youth & adults today don't know about Christmas or anything. If they do, the majority mocks it. This film is honestly hard to insult for its true purpose.

In other words, the church doesn't stoop to the level of pagans in order to lift them up. Just like how it would be ridiculous for an eagle to crawl on it's belly inorder to inspire and encouragement a tortoise.

Unfortunately they didn’t play the previews to “Unsung Hero” which is the autobiographical version of “For King & Country’s” life story!!! I laughed and I cried!! It’s definitely worth reprisals!!! I'm a Lutheran Christian, and I might see this when it comes out. Been a while since I've seen an interesting religious movie. The cast looks good and it does capture the feeling of the Nativity story. It also does look better than the animated movie "The Star".

No, a lot of times they twist and mock the scriptures in these kinda movies. I don't know about this one but I remember Noah being straight-up offensive. Only good Bible movies I know of are The Prince Of Egypt. And also The passion of the Christ

The story has been told in this fashion many years ago in a book and play called "Two From Galilee". Our church has been performing the play for over 20 years.
I never ever could’ve imagined a Nativity Story musical with Mary and Joseph singing. But it has happened, wow. Praise our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Mocking of Christianity and the Bible
I searched for this preview after seeing the trailer play before the Barbie movie. May God bless this movie, and many see it, especially our children, in Jesus' mighty name. This is what our world needs today for our children to know the truth. The creator, our savior! Who they are and whom they belong to. Our children and young adults have no identity.
(Deuteronomy 11:19) Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
This honestly looks incredible- a great retelling of the greatest story that was ever told.

This movie is exactly what it is, a movie, it's not relevant, and to that pastor who made a comment on how wonderful this movie is he should know that it goes against what he should have read. Movies like this take the Word and change it and put words and actions where they don't go. Tell me where any of this was written, maybe a couple of parts but small parts. Aweful.

I saw this trailer when I went to see the paw patrol with my 4 year old. I have never laughed so hard in my life. I had to come watch it again for another good chuckle.
