      When I was young I would use my uncles computer to play a 3D F1 game, I think this was the pentium 2 days, maybe pentium 4, not sure. he had this card on his desk at some point, or at least another card with the same heatsink.
      You'll never get anything that cool today, not even on 40 gigabit NICs.

  • @idahofur
    @idahofur Před 4 lety +3

    They used those same crappy fans on chip sets too. Then you didn't realize they would go out and burn up the board. Unless you got lucky and some boards had a big enough heat sink under the fan. What always got me is when they first started showing up with fans on processors they used the same sleeve bearing. Fan for larger fans but garbage for small fans. Thus, they switched to ball bearing. Yea they cost more but lasted forever. Nice how the industry keeps repeating itself.

    Honestly, I have the ASUS Striker Extreme which has the 680i chipset. Bought it off of ebay as a no POST condition for $10. Turns out the CMOS Clear jumper was missing, and the cmos battery had no voltage. Luckily, i have a bunch of spare 2032 batteries, and a few jumpers, so i replaced the battery put the jumper on, and it did post. Overall, a really good deal for $10. :)

    • @bloeckmoep
      @bloeckmoep Před 4 lety

      I don't know if I should congrats you or begin praying for your soul, because geting a striker extreme to run is more of a red flag than anything good. Had one too and it was a horrible ram biatch, asus never managed to provide a stable bios for the kingston SLI rams. Even swapping to corsair never solved my issues with that cursed thing, ultimately after one and half year of hating it, I disassembled my rig and threw that board out of my window and watched it crash on the street. I did not walk down to collect its remains, so I don't know what became of them. I still have the useless audio card bundled with the board which has the inverted pci express connection, it can only be used in one other asus mainboard. After the strikers takeoff, I got my hands on an evga 780sli ftw and well, the kingston sli rams as well as my 8800gtx sli setup ran fine. In fact, the evga board is still in my posession and paired with a q9550 plus 260gtx in sli to this day and working.

    • @chriss2500
      @chriss2500 Před 4 lety +1

      @@bloeckmoep I just shoved in some random DDR2 667 that I had lying around and it worked fine, so I honestly think you might've just had a one off board, or you were possibly using an older BIOS version. Newer BIOS can usually fix some of those issues. I did update the BIOS to the latest version, changed out the old crusty thermal paste on the Northridge and southbridge with some Arctic ceramique 2, and I also replaced the thermal pads for the VRM. Overall a pretty solid board. Only issue is that the post LCD unfortunately does not work correctly which is a bit of a shame. If you want to know about a little RAM Biatch, try my lanparty S939 NF4 SLI Ultra D board. THAT is one picky board.

      @bloeckmoep Před 4 lety

      @@chriss2500 : Actually it is somewhat a relief that somebody has a working striker, but well I think I made the right choice to throw away that nasty thing and go with the evga alternative. Ah yes that useless lcd panel at the io shield, that never worked correctly on mine and had stopped being backlit some months before I got rid of it. Hmm, to this day, I have not come across a nforce 4 board, I do have two msi k7n2deltaL's (nforce2) and they do their job just fine with ddr 400 in dual channel. Unlike some kt600 boards which cannot support 400mhz if all three dimm slots are populated, even though they boast ddr 400 support, but oh well read the fine print...!

    Haha I had that same model of FX5200 64bit and when it died it did the exact same thing as yours did.
    Lots of beeps no video.
    They for some reason ran really hot, like I couldn't touch the heatsink on mine for long without getting burned after running some games.
    They all seem to cook themselves to death, don't know how MSI managed to make such a bad passive cooled FX5200

    I don't trust Asus 775 boards, I had Asus Rampage Extreme x48 with DDR3, but it let me down quiet quickly. I've suspect shorten life of particular motherboard components, no longer as good as good old ASUSTeK. Regarding nForce 780i SLI I recommend something similar eVGA nForce 680i SLI, I still use it, motherboard worth to look at
