I don't know man, the car uses fuel so given an infinite amount of use it will cost you an infinite amount of resources while this only requires an initial investment but costs no fuel afterwards

Why did you post this video? The user on my server started to mass produce rocket silos and use them as a way to travel. Soon the entire map will be covered by rocket silos. What a hassle.
I'm need to find the limits of factorio. I just can't help it. By the way has he watched my follow up video? He can get 40% more speed while using less rockets.

The rocket silo one is clearly balanced... to bad you can't automate pressing buttons xD
well not in game at least (maybe with mods?). I used an external autohotkey script.
A Steam controller can do that!
Download an autoclicker on your computer and change the button that is autoclicked to whatever key you have for entering and exiting vehicles on.

I'm using macrogamer software, to automate putting down turret, filling it with magazine, and then selecting repair kit all in one click, for clearing biter nest near my base.

For the train-based one, you can use cargo wagons instead of locomotives to decrease the total cost.
Unless you know something I don't, you can't enter and exit a cargo wagon.
You can indeed enter a cargo wagon, fluid wagons too

I must say I am incredibly impressed by this. I've got plenty of hours in the game but never thought about how fast I can actually go.
How do You define plenty? Because i have 230 hours,and i don't think this that much.
Steam has me at 375 but I have far more from before it was on there.
I use 7 exosuits in my games, as I run significantly faster than a car's top speed on nuclear fuel. I still use trains for extraordinary distances though.
This makes me think, the devs should add a bullet train to the game, as the shortest distance I would consider using a train for is a 2 minute ride. Perhaps it would consume electricity from the tracks (an enormous amount, to make up for how much fuel it would take for a loco to go fast), and have significantly lower cargo capability than the locomotive.
"consume electricity from the tracks" Yes the should add electric locomotives and electrified tracks to the game. Electrified tracks shock the player when they walk over them, potentially killing them in one go.
@@edomeindertsma6669 Those tracks would make an OP biter defensive measure. Unless, of course, the biters were tweaked to attack the tracks upon sight

We need to automate the process of making Factorio videos. Put some becaons too.
Suggestion for follow-up videos:
* Walking speed on the different types of pavement and concrete, but without belts.
* Driving speed of cars (and tanks) *on dirt *on pavements and belts *on pavements only *on belts only.
* Distance until a nuclear fuel powered train and a coal powered train overtake all the other modes.
* Walking speed over spitter acid.
I used to play factorio 2 years ago like alot alot and I saw this today and had to see it, even tho I wont play the game I enjoy content you make and you got sub.

Yeah, Factorio's movement is fairly straight-forward. X+Speed if A is being held. X-Speed if D is being held. Y+Speed if W is being held. Y-Speed if S is being held. You'd think you might need special-case logic to handle not going faster than your actual speed in diagonals, but you actually don't. You onlu need that for certain things, like for instance if your game is isometric (Which Factorio is not).
What's happening is say an object is at X = 100. Player is at X = 0. And their speed is 99. So, by +speed to their X one time, they'll end up just a smidge to the left of the object, and then get pushed back in the direction they came from. But if the player's speed is say, 101, they now get pushed to the right. If their speed is 200, they skip by it completely because that object doesn't act upon the player to move them back, since the player never comes in contact with it at all.
Walking through things could be easily solved, there's a few different ways you can go about it. But it's just unnecessary for the vanilla game. One way is to have a "depth" image rendered, which just makes pathable tiles 1 color and unpathable tiles another. Then draw a transparent line from where the player is to where they would move, and if at any point that line's color is different from the color you rendered it in then move them to that X/Y position instead of where they would have moved to. This is a bit of a GPU-heavy implementation, though. But the lower-resolution you render these images in, the faster it'll be but the less precision you will have, and it could probably be done better, but that's just one idea I had off the top of my head.

that speed of sound you mentioned is only applied at sea level altitude. the higher we go up, the thinner becomes the atmosphere and the speed of sound reduces significantly.
not like it changes something in the video, but its good to know.
The speed of sound is also faster in solids and in water.

what if you were entering and exiting trains diagonally? When you calculated the speed of that mode of transport, you did not take into account the movement on the y axis. if you arrange the trains so that they move you north-west, then you could measure the y component too

Not that I'm aware of. You can only go one way with the rocket silos though. Maybe you were trying to go the wrong way?

How are you determining speed. Or probably the better way to ask this: what are you using as the width of a tile?
I'm using the same reference trains use (if you hover over a train it shows the speed); It's been a long time, but I think a tile is 1m.

Ya, I thought that, but thought it would be funny if you actually charged it using 2 solar panels. (Oh, and it totally makes sense that 5 fully sized solar panels make a panel less than the size of a button)
maybe it's a binning process... Disassembling the solar panel into it's solar cells. Then testing each cell for efficiency. And combine the best cells into a new panel.

In minecraft some guys build a mashien that teleprts you with a speed of up to 11.282,35km/h with a max range of 2.100.000 meter (blocks) due to servercrashing.
that is sadly not an option just jet to reach the end of the map from the center.
"Only" ca ~ 1/14 of the 60.000.000 blocks.
