  • If the 1980s put computers in the home, then Sir Clive Sinclair’s ZX Spectrum - which celebrates its 40th anniversary in April 2022 - put coding in the bedroom.
Sir Clive’s laser-like focus on cost efficiency and technical innovation yielded a system of such power and at such an incredibly low-price that a generation could turn their silicon dreams into digital realities. Yesterday’s coders became today’s entrepreneurs, creatives, technologists - and more.
The National Museum of Computing celebrates this legacy with an event on April 23 where you will hear from some of those behind the story - and experience the ZX Spectrum in action.
Sir Clive’s son, Crispin Sinclair will join us for a hosted discussion sharing his unique insight into the life and work of his dad - the legendary technology pioneer and entrepreneur.
Recorded on 23rd April 2022 at TNMOC.

The Spectrum is simply Awesome even in 2024, Love you all at THMoC I had a lovely day with you guys a couple of years ago when my wife and I traveled all the way down from North Ayrshire Scotland to visit you guys and bletchley park, I ended up spending most of the day in the Museum and came back the next day as I was blown away with what you are doing showing the history of computers with some outstanding displayay , you were all so kind and friendly and I hope to be back very soon.

I still remember that famous quote from Sir Clive when he was asked why he invented the Spectrum and he replied, 'Because I was desperate to play Kokotono Wilf on it,'

Great interview thanks, credit to Crispin for doing it with some humour and humanity and of course Gavin for hosting. I owe both of you a pint :-)

Really enjoyed this interview. What a pleasant fellow. Great to hear the more personal side of sir Clive, and love knowing that his son was a spectrum gamer.

Who did the graphics for the keyboard layout?

As far as I am aware, the case, the rubber keyboard, as well as the keyboard graphics were made by Rick Dickinson.
I may be incorrect in this, but that is my understanding.
