I learned a trick with the colander. Put the stem of the dead nettle through the small hole and pull it through. It quickly strips the leaves off! Saves so much time!
Thank you for the trick.

You are so awesome for sharing that. Thank You So much!!
Why not use the stems?
@@louisestaats234 good question. I just dried mine with the stems lol.
In my home we tie up stinging nettle in a bundle of 7 each and let it hang in our room by the fireplace. The aroma in the morning is awesome, same with wild mint
Greetings from Bulgaria
thank you for the idea!
I wonder if the heat from Purple Dead Nettle has anything to do with it containing niacin, (also known as vitamin B3). Niacin is an essential vitamin that plays an important role in energy production and the maintenance of healthy skin, nerves, and digestion. Purple Dead Nettle is also a good source of other important nutrients, including vitamins A and C, calcium, and iron.
That little weed is amazing! I use it in tea and I am almost totally weaned off the pink allergy pill. Great for allergy and I get to stay awake!
Oh wow! I’ve used stinging nettles in that way but didn’t think to use purple dead nettle for allergies!
I found out it's good for my allergies by accident this year. Love this weed.
I use it in our home for allergies as well.
I have them everywhere. I will have to make tea, now that I know. Thanks ladies!!!
I just drink a giant cup of coffee with my diphenhydramine
I watched this video yesterday, and today when out walking the dogs, I started spotting this EVERYWHERE. I used your description of the shape of the leaves, the square hollow stem to identify it. I know I've seen it around, but never REALLY noticed it before, but I'm starting to see a lot of things that my brain used to filter out. Makes me wonder what I'm still not seeing. :) Keep up what you're doing, your channel is a balm to my soul in all the craziness.
I found it everywhere in my yard in Louisiana and wondered what it was. I`m trying to grow stinging nettle here but haven`t been successful so far. Bad seeds I think.
Et grows everywhere in Oregon near Portland and Mt.
Hood
Nettie tea is also good for the treatment of arthritis and inflammation. Don't drink it at night when going to bed. 2 cups during the day is all you need. Soak 1 teaspoon in a cup of boiling water, sieve, and enjoy
Why not drink nettle at night? And would that be all nettles? Stinging and dead?
@@Beeslife007-It’s a stimulant. Not sure about other nettles.
@@Junkinsallycaffeine or ?
Dried or fresh?
Thanks for telling us usage and methods. Remember Henbit is also edible and not poisonous.
I just found your show, it's good. I also noticed how calm you are for your age, it's normal. Most people these days are in such a hurry, it's not normal. They even talk fast, which is not good for others to understand.
I also see, in the future, how there will be a choice as to how we live. Two ways, live off the land or live off the internet.
I believe that means you either put your faith in God or put your faith in man's technology. For me, I chose to put my faith in God. Everything man makes breaks & has a short life span.
That just means someone is paying her bills.
I'm sooooo glad I just came across this video! I have tons of these in my front yard. I'm just getting more into herbs and things and I kept thinking "It must be a good plant because the bee's REALLY love it!" so I was hesitant to cut the grass (and didn't lol). I LOVE when I discover these types of things....we all need to get back to being close to nature again and be happy & healthy as a result :) Thanks so much for putting this video together, it was very helpful for a newbie!
This year in the Bristol hills of NY the Purple Deadnettle is off the charts! I saw it as a sign and I don’t believe in coincidences, so I put in a mental note to look it up.. that night videos about it popped up in my feed? Coincidence? No way😁... I always leave it around my lil apiary as I keep those magnificent little honeybee creatures too and they LOVE it!!! Thanks for the nice video you ladies are so cute!! You earned a new subscriber 😉, look forward to more natural “real” healthcare!!!!
Oh HalleluYah! Another plant I JUST discovered in my front yard. Thank You Abba for helping me discover all these beautiful awesome things You’ve provided.
Praise Yah! 😄
Me too. I saw this growing and wondered what it was.
Yes, all esteem and praises be unto the most high alluhim ABBA YAHUAH...there is power in his name and his plants!😊
I want to see more of your quail!!! I'd love to see your enclosure and hear about how they benefit your homestead!
The holes are great way to run the stem through to stripe the stem. I learn that as kid in the 60's had family members who had Dealt with herbs🌿way back in the day. I usually cure my herbs 🌿 they stay amazingly fresher then adding heat to dry them I find. Thanks for your video love it 🥰🤗
Watch the bees, they can show you good stuff. Learning to forage can be a lifesaver.
I remember nibbling on the flowers when I was a wee child. I had no Idea it was good for the kidneys. I'm diabetic and I got chills this winter. Maybe I should look into harvesting some of the stuff in our yard. thanks for the information. I love your daughter and how she helps you. It warms my heart seeing the two of you together. Cheers from North Carolina. going to get hot soon. Weatherwise, Spring is almost over. Mrr.
Finally ❣️ a clear, useful, and informative video on this herb. Thank you 👍🏼❤️
all my life I looked on them with disdain...just a weed, I thought. Last year I finally got a clue
Thanks for teaching me the difference between the henbit and purple deadnettle! We have both and since they were both new to us, I’d not yet been able to distinguish them.
I have sooo much purple dead nettle in my yard. It’s in my flower gardens all along the garage walls.
Thanks for the information. Its cute to see you sharing this with your kiddo. Its crazy how much she looks like her pretty momma! Well done ma'am.
It grows here in Washington state pnw too and she us a great alliance
I really enjoyed this video. Very soothing and calming after a long day. You’re the best.
As usual.... great video Kaylee. Keep doing Gods work.
Your life and your child warm my heart. Thanks for being real.
by the way, if you are chilly now, you can use the dead nettle fresh to make tea as well. I plan to hang most of mine to dry and will offer the rest to a friend with chickens.
Love this!! Thank you Kaylee🤗 I’m going to do this tomorrow. I have so much purple dead nettle.
Beautiful narrative she could help infinity survive 💘 blessed be the beekeepers
Thanks for posting this, love finding ways to use non native/introduced species of plants !
Absolutely love this channel. So much information and heartfelt atmosphere. Thank you!!
I just happened across your channel! Your Awesome!

I just recently just started sharing videos, and decided it was time to share what I've been growing, here at our home... for zone 7b.
I did my 1st LIVESTREAM only 3 weeks ago? did one last Sunday and planning another one.. maybe on this Sunday (or Monday) because of Mother's day. I'm still learning to properly use my phone, while doing LIVESTREAM. hahahhaha... if you watch them, you will see what I'm talking about 🤣🤣🤣
As a grandmother, I'm teaching my grand-daughters these same old ways, for foods and herbs.
I'm happy to see so many, Learning the OLD ways again.
It truly make me HAPPY. KEEP LEARNING and always share it...
because, we never stop learning ⚖
Your daughter is beautiful & looks very much like you. It's wonderful to see her helping you, while she learns this valuable information.
Many blessings to you and yours!

I will definitely be picking and drying some of this. I have a fair amount growing in my yard.
Thank you for this Kaylee!
Love the color of the cabinets behind you
Wow..love you kitchen cabinets!
Yah for VA! Thanks for teaching me how yo use this prolific ground cover.
My favorite part of every video is don’t Are you afraid to get your hands dirty and learn some thing old ❤️🌸that’s who I want to be 🌱🥦🥬🥒
These “weeds” grows at will all over my property!! I just learned they are a blessing!!
We have some growing in very small areas thisn is the first teary that we have had them and white Goose foot. I didn't know I could harvest seeds and plant them right away. I have a area in mind and I can't wait!
Hello. I have a yard full of Dead Nettle!! I that that is was so beautiful. I searched and found some information but I am so glad that I found this video. Now I will dehydrated some. Thank you so much.
Thanks for sharing this. I dried some for the first time this year. God bless!
I have it in my garden from nov. till may. the bees get bright red pollen from it. goes good in salad. I will have to try the tea
Loved this video, even if it's older! Your daughter is the spitting image of you!
Just stopped by to positively identify the purple dead nettle that I brought back from my nature walk...medicine gathering....Thank you
Very helpful, thorough video! So thankful for your time putting it together. I'm actually studying herbalism myself. Getting ready to start my own herb garden and hoping it goes well! I have a TON of seeds that I ordered, but I'm thinking of starting with just a handful as to not get overwhelmed. I have discovered I have a bunch of the purple dead nettle in my yard so I wanted to learn about harvesting it. We're also hoping to learn beekeeping so we can start that next Spring! Subscribed and I can't wait to watch more if your videos! 💛
My Nana was into herbs as remedies. She had a big old maroonish/purple hardbound book full of info. I would love to know where it got to after her passing and wish I would have taken more interest it when I was young. Can you tell me where to go look for info on taking a course?
@@kathrynoconnor7803 I've started with just buying some books! I'm also in a Facebook group (Herbalism for Beginners) and self-study stuff. I'd like to eventually take some courses!
Thanks for posting this. I am in schuyler VA. This morning went for a walk around my garden see a lot of dead nettle . now I know what to do with them always looking for something to add to hot water to drink.
I’m actually drinking some purple dead needle tea as I watch. Real talk 💯 It’s delicious, especially with honey. No sugar people, it’s bad for you.🤣 Love the video!!
Honey is about as high on the glycemin index as sugar and it will do horrible things to your blood glucose, but raw local honey is great for allergies and is also antibacterial and antiviral so I always use it in the pine cough syrup I make every year.
@@taxat10n1sth3ft Manukau honey from New Zealand is my favorite!👍🏼
@@jeremydehart7466 I have heard nearly magical reviews of that honey, but I have yet to try it... I'm afraid I would get hooked right before the supply chain disintegrates 😂
@@taxat10n1sth3ft how do you make pine cough syrup?
I came across your channel and very glad I did as it’s great and thank you for sharing your knowledge

I harvested some 4 weeks back and made a glycerite in a dropper for an immune booster for the winter.
She just reminded me to make a copper Celtic Cross - thank you so much!
What a beautiful story
This plant grows abundantly in Central IN. I didn't know what it was called, but I love what I thought was a beautiful, delicate flower. So pretty and soothing to be around. Imagine my surprise to learn it is actually a weed with purpose!!! Thank you for this video. I too have a dehydrator. Guess what's oibg in there tomorrow?!!!!!
My kids call you Mzzzzzzz Bee. It cracks me up!
I am Smiling
Wado 🙏 For Being APart Of This WonderFull Journey Many Of us Are On
Peace To you 😊
Thanks for clarifying the difference between henbit and purple dead nettle. Some things I've read/watched seem to confuse or conflate the two so this was a very helpful pointer.
We get a TON of purple dead nettle every year. It's so pretty.
wow that is a cool plant, never heard of it...I have stinging nettle growing wild right in my back yard. great stuff but such a nasty 'sting'!! And the bees love it, double bonus!!
It’s edible, nutritious, and useful for arthritis. If you sting the afflicted area it helps tremendously 🌱
Oh my goodness! Your feather babies are so cute!!
I used to teach dehydrating and I dehydrate herbs between 80 and 95 degrees. Otherwise the heat will destroy the live compounds in the herb that you are trying to preserve.
Then it wouldn't make sense that brewing hot tea would have the active medicinals. Only some compounds like VitC are heat sensitive. But I agree she needs to address this.
My oven had a dehydrator setting I hope I'm not killing the good stuff in there.
Putting hot water in tea leaves for a few minutes is a lot different than 170 degrees for 8 hours! I dry purple dead nettle at 12 hours at 85 degrees and it comes out perfectly. We store it in glass jars.
This video was so helpful! My dead nettle has been hanging to dry and I was getting ready to put it in jars.
That’s awesome!! Good stuff for sure!
I use baskets and shake
I was hiking and saw this plant. I knew it looked absolutely familiar, but couldn't place it. XD thanks for the video. Now I know! It kind of looks like the crochet stitch called "crocodile scales." Which I love, also.
So glad I watched this...I learned more ❤
THANKS FOR SHARING, I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS THAT BENEFICIAL, I SAW IT AS A WEED IN MY FRONT YARD GARDEN, I'LL MAKE SOME TEA WITH IT. 😊
New sub here. Thank you for this peaceful and edifying lesson!
I have a ton in my yard. I'm gonna have to try this.
I just found some along the road yesterday. I had wondered if it had a medicinal purposes! I'll go collect some today!!
Arwen, careful harvesting anything right next to a road. Many times the city/county spray pesticides and chemicals along the roadside. To them most things are weeds, unfortunately.
heya nice to see you do a lot of differant things on your homestead
That dehydrator is huge!
Thank you for some great information!

Love your channel! I’m from Harlan Kentucky and have been interested in starting to get into herbalism. Have always been interested in it would love more videos like this in how to forage and harvest these herbs!

Sweet in every way.
Love blessings and love ❤️
Easy dehydrator: I lay out leaves on trays and leave in a hot car for 24 hours. Works every time!
You read my mind. I was wondering if a solar dehydrator would work, no electricity!
@@participantparticipant506 I discovered this by accident--I had hung up my husband's boutenir from our wedding in the sun visor. The hot car had preserved it perfectly. I will try it with very thin slices of chicken next!
Hello from Lake Anna. Love your channel.
I have this! I love this plant, it's so beautiful. I haven't used it, I wonder if it can help with migraines.
First time viewer. I have lupus and want to treat naturally
lupus is actually caused by parasites but our medical/pharma cabal doesn’t want you to know, I wish ai could remember his name but a fellow went into medicine bacause he wanted to cure his sister who developed it as a teenager, he then switched to functional medicine
Thank you! This was very helpful 💖
Thank you
Kaylee..Do you add anything to your soil before you plant your wildflowers? I purchased several different seeds this year but I am really excited to see how well the borage flowers do here in WV. We currently have 31 colonies of Italian honeybees and I am hoping they will really like the borage plants. Thank You
You are living my dream 😊
I'm growing some purple dead needle. It grew on its own out of an old pot I had.
I’m in love❤️!! Just kidding, you are beautiful, but I’m taken🤣 I also love native plants. I think that the jewel weed is a beautiful plant! Heck I love them all. Mae God bless you and your family!✝️👈🏼❤️🔥🙏👍🏼
Great info!
Merci +++ for sharing your knowledge !!!
Blessings +++!!!
very relaxing video
Thank you. We’ve an ABUNDANCE of dead nettle and hen bit.
I just noticed this plant in my garden today..
Just thinking about the seed spreading, if its part of the mint family just digging up some of the plants and roots will be quicker and as we now won't really harm the main plant as it spreads so well. Just a thought
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and your journey with us! 🐬🌈🌟🐞🌻🧚🍄🐝
I think it's your daughter she smiled when you said it's really good with honey
I also forage Hesbit which looks similiar but jas the same antihistamine effects. The main difference visibly is rhe nettle has lil hairs in the leaves and Hesbit doesn't.
Thanks for the info. I watched the video and then discovered some growing happily along a sidewalk. I unashamedly broke the stems but left all but one of the roots. Perhaps I can grow that one potted for the seed. I processed what I collected and spread it on a towel because it was actually heating significantly piled up in a large bowl.
Remember there is no such a thing as a registerd herbalist😂❤
