Getting into leather work can be affordable.
Take a look at the video Magnus did on what you need to get started.
Leather is expensive. But Suede isn't.
Also. You can often find remnant bags at your local Tandy or other leather supply store. Great for small projects.

Leather balm with atom wax is supposed to be buffed to a shine after it dries. The heat from the friction of buffing activates the beeswax and creates a water resistant seal. If you don't buff it, you just have a tacky waxy film on your project. Always buff the balm.

I bought the pattern on Saturday morning and was done by noon. Went together well, also ran into the hole count issue but was easily compensated for. What I did was to start my stitching on one end, went half way. Started a new stitch line on the other end and compensated for the hole issue along the bottom. Now I just need to watch all your carving videos because I really suck at it, lol.

Beautiful work, you make it look easy. My younger sister bought a pouch like this for me many years ago when she visited Scotland. It's the same style and I've never used it because I just don't want to mess it up. I've often thought of trying my hand at making one, the actual construction is quite simple but I've never really done any work with leather. You give me enough confidence to perhaps give it a go. I believe Tandy had a shop in Tampa years ago which is only about an hour or 2 from me, I'll have to find out
    Thanks

Hey! Awesome video! Just wanted to throw out there, in case no one has said anything yet, that the Pro Resist actually works great but is only compatible with the antique finishes. It isn’t compatible with the gel antiques. Also the first batch of bottles they sent out to Tandy were recalled. I had this same issue and went through a few bottles thinking I kept getting defective product until I finally reached out to Fiebings directly and was told what I mentioned above. 🙂

I love using gel antique too, but I've noticed it does penetrate more than antique paste. It'll go through resists, gum trag, and just about anything but acrylic. The whole "wax on, wax off," thing doesn't work quite the same with gel as with the paste.

When I have to lace twice through the same holes the second strip of lace I cut a point onto it and put some white glue on it to stiffen it and it laces quite easily with a smaller hole. I use Tandy's Super Shene two times and let dry for a couple of hours between. Your mistake was one coat, which was obviously insufficient.

Nice. Hey by the way, if that's a WART on your left thumb, wrap it with duct tape, and leave it for 24 hours. Remove tape, wash hands, dry, and re-wrap it again for 24 hours.
Water softens the wart, tape latches to the tiny black seeds, and when you take the tape off, the teeny tiny seeds come with it. Once ALL those little seeds are gone, the wart goes away.
I'm mentioning this, bc the Wart can crack open when it's hard and dry, and the seeds can spread to another area and you can also spread that to another person just by shaking hands. I'm speaking from personal experience. Had one on top of my index finger by the knuckle about the size of a pencil eraser. Ended up having total of 13 on BOTH hands bc I just left it. Once I did the tape thing to the first wart ony finger, ALL of the others went away in their own.
Subscribed thanks for your videos man these are Gnarly! đŸ’Ș😎👉

How many coats of the pro resist did you use? I usually use three. I don't tend to airbrush the pro resist like I so with the resolene.

I just use resolene, can't recall what I did with this video. I just spray one coat of resolene as my resist.

Why do you use the ceramic swivel knife as apposed to a traditional swivel knife? I am beginning leatherwork and I really enjoy the project you share.

Figured I'd try one and liked it and never changed back. Takes some polishing occasionally but doesn't lose its edge like steel.

Would you be able to put slits on the strip of leather to feed a belt through, or would you see additional leather on for something like that? At the other end from the carving I mean.

I personally would add another peice of leather to the pouch. You could do slits bit after all that work it would be a shame to just chop into it. Dig your pic.

Dark Horse Workshop haha thanks. I’ve been getting into carving with bookmarks for practice, been going through your videos to learn what I can as I’m wanting to start making bigger things now. Just checked out the belt pouch one too.

@@ApolloSZ The only way we improve is to challenge ourselves. Make that pouch. :)
