    I've seen the same beckoning in some Asian cultures. It's all just a matter of respect. As the saying goes...When in Rome do as the Romans

      Hello Sydnee B, it depends on the tone of voice and the context in which it is said. It is ordinarily a friendly greeting, but could also be used sarcastically.
