“I think we’re doing good here boys” famous last words
I really don’t know when to shut up 😂
You’re right, in Russia we usually call knights “horses”, bishops “elephants” and rook is rook. I’m mostly playing chess online and speak in English during games though.
I knew I was right lol
in India we call knights as horse bishops as camel and rook as elephants
@@Ameya930 Yeah, this is true too, but this is made to recognise the pieces easier with their shape. The ancient indian chess (The First Form of Chess) follows different principles.
Еще королеву мы называем ферзем
чел в самом деле думает что мы в россии ладью птицей называем...
dam my guy is an ancient chess GM hikaru is now afraid of you
Ey there's a reason Hikaru never challenged me in Ancient chess
@Oogabooga123 you know that he doesn’t reply replied comments
Could you imagine if there was a world championship for variants
I would love that actually, some of these looks super interesting
im telling you i would win the chaturaji world campionship
The major Chess variants, such as Chinese Chess (Xiangqi), Japanese Chess (Shogi) and Thai Chess (Makruk) all have their own World Championships. Superchess does have its own Dutch national championship.
There is also 960 world championship. Most masters play it regularly, including Nakamura (who was/is actually a 960 world champion), Aronian, and so on.
In Russia we call figures like this:
Bishop - Elephant [slon]
Knight - Horse [kon']
Rook - Rook [lad'ya]
Queen - [ferz']
King - King [korol']
Pawn - Pawn [peshka]
Love your videos from India 🇮🇳, also, Chaturanga is an Indian game, the original form of chess. The name represents the (back then) four branches of the Indian military. We also have a different variant that uses boats, and we use elephants because bishops are EXTREMELY rare in India, and there probably weren’t any back 1,500 years ago.
Edit: the queen is a Minister.
Hey glad you enjoyed the video, and thank you for dropping some info in the comments !!
They really did the Queen dirty XD
The Man wasn't a bad idea though, it's not a very valuable piece so people don't trade for it but it still guards the King and his surrounding pretty well
Guess they invented the Queen like it is now to be doing this job while being also an offensive weapon
Yea, there are some cool ideas in there, I just think the insanely large chess board is a bit too much to keep track of everything lol
@@ChessNuke yeah beginners already miss bishops moves across the board with our 64 squares chess board, no wonder we would all miss some things with such a large board X) hard to keep track of every possible move from all those pieces over this board
Profit that you're here to say you're the only chess content creator that makes videos that systematically interest me, I like some others but they don't do ONLY concepts that I like it's more diluated but you keep providing this type of content that I like. Hope your channel will keep growing, I believe it will if you keep doing such a good work.
I feel like a king would be worth more than a knight or bishop, maybe 4 points. Its moves are pretty helpful but not as much as a rook because it can only move one square.
Your videos are so fun to watch!!! Upload more content like this🎉
Thank you so much, I'm really glad you enjoyed the video !!
I always liked older version of chess so nice seeing it still being played
Yea I wanted to give it a try, and it was great fun
So Nuke actually the story revolves around the attack elephants that have destroyed and swormed armies easily . Russians told their kids about these wars and battles and said that every elephant can run but can't jump. So the kids thought that they could even slide, so when chess got around the Russian empire kids saw an elephant in the game and a bishop. They called them the exact same names , and got absolutely astounisht (idk how to write this word) so they thought , why would there be four elephants instead of two like the other pieces and removed one set of them and created a degraded version of the chess game as we know today. We changed some of the rules In Europe and added some . I am gonna post it here and in the comment section if you miss it and if everybody wants to hear it:)
I am not sure if it's real but it's definitely a good story
Oh thanks man, I heard something similar to this so it’s nice that the stories kind of line up, gotta pin it for other people to see :)
astonished
Chessnuke:can it castle?
Me:where’s en passant? Maybe an en passant ladder?
(Meanwhile my opponent on ancient chess en passant laddering me at ancient chess and taking my spiky guy, the cannon rook, bishop, knight, elephant, a literal man and weird spoon at the same diagonal)
Also me: *en passant means pass in, but I pass out*
I knew en passant wasn’t a thing, since it was added to real chess relatively late, BUT I GOTTA CASTLE GOD DAMN IT
0:18 the game is Chataranga (said how it looks like). The spiky bishop is called the minister (if i remember correctly), it moved worse then a king! It moves one square diagonally, and was basically useless. The knight is called a horse, and it is basically the same without the name. The pawns are called foot-sliders. Extremely weird name and weird rule, and the rule is that it can’t promote so it is just like a barrier. The rooks are called chariots and moves the exact same. The king is also the exact same and that is it!
Medieval chess at 6:13. The King moves one square in any direction.
The Counsellor/Queen moves only one square diagonally. The Elephant/Bishop moves exactly 2 spaces diagonally. It can jump over other game pieces. This means that its movement is restricted to only 8 places on the board. The Knight moves like the modern chess knight: two spaces forward/backward or sideways plus one space at a right angle (an L-shape). The knight jumps over other pieces. The Rook moves like the modern one: unlimited movement forward, backward or sideways until it has reached another piece. It cannot jump. The Pawn moves one square forward when not capturing. Capturing occurs one step diagonally. Unlike modern chess, the pawn does not have the two-square step as the initial move. When pawns reach the other end of the board they are promoted to a counsellor.
I did not find any research about the other new pieces shown. That is all!
Everyone: Yeah these are cool variants
Nuke: BUT CAN YOU CASTLE????
This perfectly describes it 😂
well actually thse are remodeled pieces the elephant is an alfil which moves (knight unblockableness) second square away from it the "queen" is a ferz which moves one square diagnoally and the thing in the corner thats a remodeled rook
The spiky piece is called advisor or ferz, it moves/takes 1 step diagonally
Oh thanks for the info, I just kept calling it a spikey boy
The elefant from the first game can jump over peices like a knight
my brain is hurting while watching this video cuz of crazy moves that i never seen before
Yea it was very weird to play and try to keep up with everything
most underrated chess youtuber fr.
Thanks man, we are just getting started 😎
In China we call bishops as elephants, knights as horses, and rooks as cars.
Rooks as cars is crazy I love that
@@ChessNuke ikr😂
Bout to get hit by a car💀
Chess is indian
The thing that your pawn promotes to is 0.5 points and it’s called a mister
Isn't a pawn worth 1 😂
bro is doing so well
im proud
At least someone’s proud of me 😂
man this is my fav chess channel!!
Really glad to hear that, thank you so much
Great video and nice sweatshirt!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video 🤘
personally i love chaturanga chess , you pronounced it right btw. I just don't like how the queen moves in that form of chess but everything other is cool
Yea I liked it a lot as well, it's always nice to try something different !
I would like to see Magnus play with these. Would be very interesting.
And also great vid as always champ I'm gonna sub.
Yea I would love to see the top GMs play this for the first time, and also welcome to the channel!!!
5:32
I think that Cannon or Rook to c2 then other Rook to a1 was mate
Nah I’m pretty sure the king just runs next to the knight
you should play chaturaji
its ancient indian 4 player chess
its my favorite variant
Wow where can I play that, it sounds interesting !!
How did you get the rule set to work for these? Is it pre set because I have had my own ideas for alternative chess I want to pursue but I haven't had anyone to play it with
So you can play this and a bunch of chess variants on chess.com under play and then click on 4 player and variants
@@ChessNuke I see, thank you
This is the original chess where it was played like this in India, Iran, Arabian countries and all other world, until the original rules of chess changed by Queen of Spain Isabella, Where the piece Minister or Counselor changed to the name Queen with changing the way it moves as it is today by increasing it's power, the Elephant changed to Bishop with increasing the range of movement.
That was savage distortion to original & Historical Rules.
The elephant piece is so weak, I estimate it's worth about half a pawn
I actually learnt chess from playing Chinese chess
Hmm maybe I need to check Chinese chess out
Have you ever tried go?
I'll tell you what we call the pieces in india knight=horse bishop=camel rook=elephant queen=minister
you going “one two, one two” in an L shape when counting the elephants moves instead of just counting two squares diagonally infuriated me
Don’t cry too hard
@@ChessNuke 😭🌊
Chess is 2400+ years old found in india 400BC
The first variant I played is Chaturanga which is from India and that's about 1500 years old
@@ChessNuke cool
you are correct about the russian biHoop because my coach has some russian students and when he talks to them i can understand everything bcuz i study russian in school so theyre bishop is слон - слона. Like in many balkan country as mine and as yours слон means an Elephant and there was an reason behind this name of the bishop , and my coach did tell me the story but i forgorr it . Tommorow i am gonna ask him about the story again and im gonna tell you.:)
If he tells you the story please share it here, I’m interested as well
Ok
@@yadkatabg7687 Where is the story.......

Nice, but why didn't you check the piece movements and other rules before playing?
It’s more fun to figure things out as I go 😂
@@ChessNuke maybe, it would be pretty annoying for me to play without knowing the rules
Hey man where do u play ancient chess?
It's on Chess.com under Play and then under 4 Player & Variants !!!
In India we call pawns the pawns and queen and king remains same bishops - camels,rook-elephanta,knight -horses
Is it 15,000 years before if it’s that I’ll be really impressed that will be really really cool and that’s what I’m gonna talk about the coolest
0:30 In Russian chess "Bishop" translates like "Slon" (Elephant in english). Is that somehow connected with first versions of chess?
Probably, slon is elephant in my language as well that’s why I thought it sounded familiar
Oldest form of chess is not open to public. It is limited to few people in india.. It is called Dhyut in Mahabharat and Shadyantra since 2300 yrs...
Pls do star plumber vs stockfish
Coming probably this Sunday!!
The oldest chess the thing that in the place of the king is the old queen
Can you do super lario vs hikaru bot ?
I think that would be a really short video ...
THE ROOOOOO- i mean the cannon
We need to start calling it the cannon lol
CHATURUNGA!!!
5:36 checkmate with the elephant i think
"ancient chess W" you called it!
A Brazil Guy reference in the video 😎
I saw beetles, elephants, lighthouse in the board.
It's all in the eye of the beholder 😅
Yes, we call them elephants
nice, I got something right lol
Elephants are goated
they need to bring them back
never think i wont come
Mayo always shows up
In my Country ,
King = ноён ( king )
Queen = Бэрс ( idk what's the meaning )
Bishop = тэмээ ( Camel )
Knight = Морь ( Horse )
Rook = Тэрэг ( rook )
Pawn = Хүү ( Child )
Ha ha, silly spiky Bishop🥴
Silly dude can only move one square at the time smh 😂
In
Arabic we call bishops elephants so it's not only in Russian
Oh nice, in my language the bishop is called the hunter
Yes we russians do call bishops elephants
Nice, I got it right
The “bishop” is actually a advisor and is very weak
Edit:oh yeah and theirs 2 of them one moves like a pawn but only one square forward and the other is diagonal
One of them is the "jester"
the goat
No u 😎
@@ChessNuke no u
NICE
😎😎
yes in Russian bishop call «слон» (elephant)(i’m Russian)
Yes I heard some other cultures here call it the same !!
@@ChessNukeoh thanks for reply❤

Indians also
I guess you aacpted my challange, which I did in your latest short.
Kind of 😂
how can i play these?
It's on Chess.com under Play and then under 4 Player & Variants !!!
russians do call bishops elephants (slonovi) we call them (lovci) which means hunters
Yea it's very similar here in Serbian!!
Bro really played Chinese chess variation at the start
Chaturanga as far as I know is from India
@@ChessNuke yes, you're right. What I mean is some of the pieces function like those ones in Xiangqi (or aka Chinese chess). Example, the elephant is similar to the Chinese bishop. It is really awesome to see more variations of chess!
@@BeansBem XiangQi Elephant can't jump
Also Chaturanga exist b4 XiangQi
Chaturanga has no river or flying general rule & is 8x8, so it's more like Chess variant than a XiangQi variant
@@hy7864 oh ok, thanks for letting me know!
I love some rook with wheels
Same, we need to make that the standard 😂
Bro this game is oridinated in india over 1500 years ago it was invented so kings can explain a battle statergies to their army
