The Maine Coon cat is among the most brilliant animals on Earth! The rumor is that that they sailed upon a ship from Europe and landed in Maine. Many people believe that they are mix-bred with a raccoon and/or a Canadian Lynx. The Canadian Lynx is the northern version of the bobcat but has a cooler tail! Also known as the "gentle giant," the Maine Coon is very dog-like in nature. Maine Coons chirp more than they meow. They're very vocal animals and will accompany you throughout your day. I've lived with many cats throughout my life but the Maine Coon is definitely the most unique. Sean Coonery my Maine Coon never ceases to amaze me! A Maine Coon does not live with you, YOU live with the Maine Coon! It's a great experience but be prepared to always feel inferior! I have a Maine Coon mix... shes beautiful. But she HATES to be brushed! She carries on with grizzles and and high pitched whines! It doesn't matter what brush I use or if there are treats given or not. Your cat is so lovely!
Perhaps consider trying only brushing the wisker area of the sides of her face for a few weeks. Than if she eventually likes this move on including the top of her head first. Than after she likes this begin to slowly brush down her back. HOWEVER be careful not to brush the top of her back bone/spine since this may hurt her and destroy all the brushing TLC you gave her today. Good Luck........
Take it slowly, but be persistent. Find out her favorite treat and lavish them on her at first. Even if you only get a few strokes, keep trying. Eventually, she will let you groom her. Be very gentle and praise her
I have the same problem. I get growled at and bitten when I try to gently brush my Maine Coon. I will try these tips. Than you. Ironically, my Persian LOVES to be brushed. But my MC’s fur seems much more dense. I wish she enjoyed it too.

After two short-hairs, my 3rd cat is a longhair (my first such) - not a Maine Coon tho' I would love it if I could afford one; and here's the simple way I trained my longhair to daily brushing: I link it to meal time. Feeding is once only at sunset and brushing precedes it every day without fail. My cat comes to me and sits, purring, waiting to be brushed, knowing dinner is straight after. He loves it and brushing is never a problem.

Hello there, we add some treats at the end of the grooming session. No grooming session is complete without treats at the end. Also, we do different brush "speeds" for different areas :), ultra-slow around the neck.

We have a Maine Coon male apparently a cross but he looks the part. He will come and ASK to be brushed and the spikier the brush is the more he likes it. He is such a sweet handsome boy and we love him to bits. He will let us groom him as long as we are still standing. No such thing as too much for him.

I agree that a Maine Coon needs to be brushed once a day, but I read you're only supposed to do it once a week! Glad to know I'm not the only one who makes grooming a daily ritual. Mine usually begs to be combed twice a day, and gets very upset if I don't. Bentley will even beg to be combed if he gets a burr. He puts his face up for kisses when we finish.

My Maine Coon, Elvis, was back and white. He had a fluffy white beard and one time the entire beard just fell out! His head looked tiny until it grew back in.

He's loving life
My paents has a Coon Cat. He looks like Sean. But he was orange. He was an outdoor cat. They made him stay inside at night because he kept getting into fights. He was big too, he weighed about 20 pounds. I was surprised they were able to train him to stay inside. I love the chirpping sound they make.

How do you cope with the belly hair getting matted ? My main coon is just under a year and even tho inbrush him he still gets matts under his “arm pits” 🤷🏾♀️😫. How do i help this please 🙂

At approximately 0:34 we hear the the defendant ask if he is "coontent." Now, this is not a form of requesting consent, and there was no response from the witness.Now, at 2:11, the defendant asks Sean Coonery to "flip over", then proceeds to lift the victim and turn him over without verbal consent. You'll also notice, around this time, that he is wearing shorts that come above the knees when standing. Very indicative of frat boy behavior, and leads me to believe that consent was not given.

My cat would be gnawing at my hand if i tried to brush his stomach.
Mine grabs my hand with his front paws, chomps down with teeth(playfully) and with his back paws, violently flicks/kicks at my hand. I couldn't imagine being one of his many many prey! How terrified you must be for the 2 remaining seconds of your life

My Skitty is only part Maine Coon. She came from a litter of 6 kittens who were all different. Four were Maine Coons, five were polydactyl, two were short hair, and not one was the same color. They were foster kitties we took in after they were abandoned.
Basically she is still bigger than some cats but she is very small when it comes to Maine Coons. My mom has my tabby who is about 3 feet long from head to tip of tail and she is bigger than Skitty who only weighs about 12 pounds, to give you an example. She's also not as fluffy as some Maine Coons, like your's, but she still has a good amount of fur. The thing is she HATES brushing and fusses with me when I try. I've tried every type of brush and she still hates it. I'll try the ones you used and see how it goes. Really my calico is worse, she bites the brush and growls at me. Any tips on getting them to let me brush them?
I have a 5 month old maine coon mix but he looks like he's full and he absolutely HATES any brush. What can I use or do to get him to actually let me brush him. he also HATES having his nails trimmed. I have one of his brothers also and he is completely black and he is the complete opposite he will let me brush him and trim his nails

That is one gorgeous cat. One question, was he willing to get groomed right from being a kitten? My Maine Coon kitten, now 16 weeks, is somewhat okay with it but I have the feeling he gets less and less willing. Sometimes it's better, sometimes not so much. A year ago my husband came back from some locations out here in west Texas/ southeast New Mexico (he works in the oil field with natural gas). Anyway, he said he thought he heard a cat meowing around his truck. We found this big orange and white cat on the top of the fuel tank. That day Hitch weighed 9 lbs. He was so skinny you could see his ribs, he had sores on his paws and I spent two hours untangling his fur. He's beautiful now and a healthy 17 lbs. I knew he was different than my other cats but I've just discovered in the last few weeks that he's a Maine coon. Hitch hitched a ride on the truck's fuel tank and I'm so glad he did. I tell him he's the luckiest stray in New Mexico. My husband says he's the smartest stray because he knew which truck to climb on to bring him to the cat lady....me :)
How do you make him so calm when brushing? My cat doesn’t allow to brush the belly and that’s where it is needed most. Is it okay to try every day or will he be annoyed?
It takes time and a cat won’t expose their belly until they 100% trust you.
What do you do when you have a male Maine coon cat. And he is very feisty. I have one his name is Prince. He only let me brush him for about 5 minutes. And then he get mad and irritated. And he is shedding a lot my brush is something like your. But its one with two sides. Rubber on one side and the metal part on the other. And I don't have money right now to take him anywhere to get Him groom. what do I do

I’m watching so I can get our Maine coon groomed...was looking for some tips...was he accustomed to being groomed everyday?

I want one soooo bad but I have horrible allergies. I moved out to the country and got all sorts of animals and people brought me sick and injured animals to take care of an I was loving it until I started ending up in the hospital every few months with what the doctor thought was bronchitis but it was asthma :( had to find homes for all the animals but I still dream of the day I can have a Maine coon cat!
Hopefully, one day the treatments will be better and animal lovers will rejoice LOL!

your maine coon looks like a Norwegian Forrest cat but they look similar anyways. you've got a beautiful cat mine is only a year old and hes huge. he plays fetch haha. personally what's thr best brand food I can buy him. I use no grain food at the moment but I wanna hear opinions please:)

+cody bryant When I saw this cat that was my thought, too; it has a lot of Forest Cat qualities, like the heavily furred shoes and set of eyes. A nice cat! Mine is almost two years old and maybe 12 lbs. Just a rescue, but I'm sold on the Norwegian Forest Cat breed.
Possibly the only breed of cat that will let you pet their bellies and in this case even brush its belly coat. With most other cat breeds this is impossible. O_O

what do you do if you have a maine coon like my Phlame! She doesnt ...DOES NOT!! like to be held or messed with .. She will let me scratch her head and chin... thats it.. she does not tolerate children and is very skittish of so many things.. she has no interest in outside , human foods except green stuff like spinach , strawberry stems, broccoli , celery etc.. She sleeps on her back only and always in the center of a room.. she lets me brush her but only her head and the shoulder area of her back. I had her shaved last year when the mats got out of control. that was the first time mats started to become an issue . They had to sedate her to shave her and when i brought her home, my other cat Festus, Phlames "mommy" for 2 and 1/2 years didnt recognize her and the 2 of them got into a vicious fight , scaring Phlame so bad she urinated during the fight and i had to keep them separated 2 weeks and sight swap until they could be left alone together safely. She now is in need of a desperate grooming , despite all i tried to prevent mats from reoccurring .
