- Woodturning: a square bowl with wings and ash inlays.
The wood used to make this complex piece is Sipo.
The ankle inlays are ash and sipo.
The difficulty lies in creating the illusion of a collar attached and curved around the bowl. The digging must be perfect and meticulous so that the inlay effect is successful both inside and out. outside.
The finish is ensured by a fine polishing based on an abrasive cream enriched with natural oil, then by the application of a carnauba wax.

Tournage sur bois :un bol carré avec des ailes et incrustations de frêne.
Le bois utilisé pour réaliser cette pièce complexe ,c'est du Sipo.
Les incrustations de chevilles sont en frêne et en sipo.
La difficulté réside dans le fait de créer l'illusion d'une collerette rapportée et cintrée autour du bol.Le creusage se doit d'être parfait et minutieux pour que l'effet d'incrustation soit réussi aussi bien à l’intérieur qu'a l’extérieur.
La finition est assurée par un polissage fin à base d'une crème abrasive enrichie en huile naturelle,puis par l'application d'une cire de carnauba.

Une très jolie vidéo que j’ai loupée a sa sortie, toujours dans la précision et l’originalité. Pour les winged bowl il y a une technique qui consiste à coller du bois martir autour de la pièce afin de former un cercle. Cela évite de tourner principalement de l’air lorsque l’on veut donner la forme aux pointes, de plus c’est plus safe pour les doigts. Je l’ai découverte dans une vidéo de Joe Giannina

Yes I use carnauba wax paste, I apply it in two layers directly on the wood lathe to heat it slightly 😉

Fantastic! I like the uneven placement of the darker dowel rods. As you were putting it together, It struck me that you were so careful with the lighter dowel placement and didn't center the darker ones. I thought it was a mistake untill I saw the finale product. Really added character to the inside of the bowl. Very well done. What finish are you using?

Indeed you got it right;)
I intentionally glued the dark pegs off-center in order to avoid a too straight or industrial effect, knowing that the light pegs were already perfectly aligned. I wanted to keep the artisan side of the piece.
