You are telling my story! Only I just turned 80 and really am not wanting to burden my kids. I got into reselling for exactly the same reason you did. I love to shop and justified it by saying I was reselling. I am so ready to do what you are doing and excited to keep following you and doing it side by side. Wish us both the best of luck.

You are a true planner and so organized! After my mom passed away. I sold my home, packed a bag and traveled for years with the motto "only buy what you can carry or consume". Then I returned to the US and started reselling everything I had put in storage plus thrifted items. The extra income allowed me to pay off all my debt and build a nest egg. I enjoy reselling but at 62, I really want to move back to Asia or Europe. So I'm giving myself a year to liquidate and close shop. 3000 items gotta go!!

I can totally relate, I go through lots of "collecting/crafting" phases in my life too. I am 52, I have a 1300 item store in just one year, and massive death piles that are making my den look like a hoarder house! Your house always looks so clean and clutter free on your videos. I live with so much clutter in my life and in every room of my house, I can't even have people come over, it is so embarrasing! I am going to join you in your challenge!

I totally know what your thinking. I just have totes everywhere but I can't bring myself to list.. even 5 items a day. BUT I also can bring myself to give the stuff away. I have been trying to get rid of 10 things a week out of my house. I have a donation box in my closet and in the office and I try to fill the box up every week.

@jellen7332 did you mean you can't bring yourself? If so try one thing or get someone else to take the box and see how that feels. I have my daughter take mine to a thrift store I don't frequent. If you absolutely cannot let even one thing go it might be time to talk to someone, physician, counselor etc. Take care.

And since we are going there, consider this. I travelled to Greece for 3.5 weeks with a carryon only. It was 17 lbs, I had to be very selective, but it was the best thing ever! Getting dressed was so easy, because choices were minimal. I wore my favorite things on repeat and I will never overpack again. The footwear was the hardest, but it is doable. Consider for your Tokyo trip. If I can do it anyone can. Lol

Lori, I appreciate your openness and your emotion. I am a part time reseller and try to keep my inventory down to 250 due to working full time etc. I think your Dad offered you one last gift with his passing and what a treasure that is. It may seem hard right now, but you seem like someone who sets and meets goals. Plus you'll have more time with Lumpy!!

I have reached my limit with the amount of clutter in my business and in my personal space. Please share in the comments any tips you may have or struggles you have experienced with clutter in your business. I hope we can tackle this together over the next several months. Thanks so much for being here. xo Lori

Oh definitely 😅 I’m in the same boat and have come to terms to donate or get out of the house asap. I e got to work on decluttering and reorganizing my stock room and work station. My husband is just so supportive and helps me in the process of cleaning. But since he’s legally blind, he can’t help with sourcing, listing or shipping so it’s just me. I just can’t help myself when there’s sales that just are too good to pass up so my stockpile just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

You are preaching to the choir as the saying goes. I wake up sometimes worrying about what I am going to do with all my inventory. My husband passed away unexpectedly in April. I stopped buying anything, but I was so busy with all the things that need to be done after someone dies, that I didn't even think about sourcing and of course I was grieving as well. I even got angry with my deceased husband because he left me with all this stuff! Only, he didn't leave me with all this stuff. All the stuff is mine and he had nothing to do with it. I have started sourcing again. I am aware that I have to be careful. Your video really hit home. I do want to add that I, too have been "collecting" stuff long before I started reselling.

Yes! So with you! Just turned 51 and watched a video on Swedish death cleaning where you ask yourself would I want my family to have to go through all this when I’m gone ? No no and no! My “death pile is absurd. I think I actually use reselling to justify my stuff. And... I am so tired of hearing outsiders commentary on my stuff. Ironically they try to give me all there’s. Just know you are not alone on your journey. With ya sister! Thank you for sharing. I completely get the emotion of it all. ❤

I understand the letting go process so well, Lori. 8 years ago when my first grandson was born, we realized within the first year that he was autistic. Long story short- I ended up selling my house & downsized into a one bedroom apartment. I did this so I would be available to take care of him & not have to worry about working full-time. It’s been a long journey, but I can tell you that I have never been happier! I do have a couple things that I collect, but I keep it minimal. I only have things in my home that really bring me joy. It was tough to get rid of the boxes of my children’s school work throughout their years, but after 5 years of downsizing, I realize that nobody can take the memories from me, & I don’t need to hold onto the physical item to enjoy those memories. Being an empty nester has been a journey in itself. I’ve learned so much about myself. This all happened the year I turned 50, so I completely understand what you’re going through. I am proud of you. I know you can do this! Like I tell my grandchildren, you can do difficult things!! ❤

Thank you for sharing this video. We have been decluttering for a year plus and have made great progress. We moved from a 2400 square foot home to a 1400 sq foot home so that helped motivate us because I refused to buy a storage space and we knew we could not take it all with us. We struggled over furniture from family members, artwork, and picture frames. I had accumulated more than 100 picture frames that I wasn’t using! When it got overwhelming I would suggest to my husband that we keep half. So, when we opened the coffee mug cupboard, for example, and he would say “but we need these”, I would say we have 20 mugs, let’s choose 10 we want to keep and donate the rest. That was manageable and easier for us because we kept our favorites. Hang in there. It will be challenging and you will feel you aren’t making progress but remember - every box or bag that leaves your home is a success!

Lori Lori Lori! We were separated at birth!!! I am literally EXACTLY LIKE YOU. I am selling my 1500 square ft home to my son and his family. I live here alone and every room is an example of a lifetime of earning money in order to buy things. I have stuff EVERYWHERE LITERALLY EVERYWHERE. I have been purging BIG TIME! I have at least $15-$20k yes thousand dollars worth of crafting Scrapbooking supplies unused! I have literally made 2 scrapbooks. TWO! I keep my house extremely tidy so that I can say I am not a hoarder and I do not go down rabbit holes ya sure. Ugh and the list goes on and on. I spend more time organizing all of my stuff than I would ever like to admit… I will be here for the journey for sure because I’m on it as well. I turned 52 this last January maybe it’s an age thing or we just hit our rock bottom and because we go all in we will be successful at this and have a better quality of life that feels ahhh clear and breathable. Very happy for you. I cried alongside you as well lol so it’s an emotional thing… who knows? Ok friend, here is to “LESS IS MORE” 🍻🥂

I thought the same thing. I want to be the organized woman and my bedroom and bathroom is about the only room that doesn't have a bunch of stuff everywhere. My dining room table is my paint pouring project and I have flower to arrangement for my bar, and stuff on the floor in totes that I need to sell, and I thin 16 TOTES in my office...not listed. but all I do is keep buying --- well, I have put myself on a really short leash. I am NOT allowed to go to any estate sales or thrifting unless I put 5 items on ebay. --- so I haven't been to anything in a month!! and its hard... but I think well the hour you spend in the stores or shopping, I could be listing. then when I get home... I am like oh lets watch someone else shop and sell --- its so hard to have ADD and be self disciplined. Why can't I just sit down and list 5 items??? I even say ok take the pictures bag up the items and then sit on the couch and enter on ebay. NOPE I still have 10 bathing suits that I need to list!!
SO August Goal is to make it least a 1,000 a month. that would help a lot of paying a couple bills and buying things for the house. Like a hot water heater and a refrigerator. Ok, I am doing it going to list 5 items. right now!!

Following the principles of minimalism/ intentional living has CHANGED my life. I honestly do not know how I survived before. Clutter = stress. Just know that it may take some time. It took me over a year to declutter and organize every single item in my home but I am so glad I did. I watched CZcams videos for motivation and got rid of 70% of my items. I suggest doing it one room at a time. Good luck on your journey!

I am 68(divorced no kids), not a reseller, but need to pare down what I have in anticipation of eventually moving to a 55+ coomunity. Have had several health and medical issues the past year and a half, too, and lately it made me realize what will I do with it all, what will happen to it all if something happens to me. My nieces probably wouldn't want most of it and my brothers certainly wouldn't want any of it. Lately I've been an emtional shopper and I really need to stop. I think watching your videos will give me the motivation I need. Lori, don't ever apologize for being vulnerable and emotional. We are all there with you on this journey of yours.

If I see any big hauls I’ll call your ass out 😂 I understand your fear about CZcams views but I’m so proud of your decision to put yourself first ❤ I’m a small reseller and keep my inventory to four bins. One of the bins is barely able to close so I’m very strict and not letting myself go shopping. I recently did a video of how it’s easy for inventory to go from manageable to nearly hoarding. Happy to see more and more people really focus on clearing out their money piles and reducing their items. For me at least, when my inventory is overflowing I get anxiety and paralysis, making it difficult to get anything done. Can’t wait to follow you on this journey. You got this 🤗

I am like you. I am a collector and have lots of hobbies and I like "stuff" (we are similar in a lot ways from what I see on your videos-maybe it's the same type personality traits haha!) I do get sick of justifying this though. My husband often criticizes me for it. But I'm from a long line of consumers LOL. I also hold onto things because I care about the memories, some people cannot understand this and I don't know if I want to be like them. There are things worth saving. My personal experience recently makes me question saving things though. My 94 yr old grandma passed away and I bought her house. I had to go through 94 years of STUFF. Her house was packed from one side to the other. She was not a hoarder. She just liked to decorate in that cluttered way and she lived all around the world so had saved so many things. It drove me crazy but she never made excuses for it. She LOVED her collections and all of her things and I did like that about her. Going through it made me frustrated though. It was really hard on me to have to go through and discard 90% of items just to be able to move my furniture in. It was a HUGE burden. I don't want to leave my kids with that but I also think there are things worth saving...it's a fine line. As far as reselling goes I understand that as well but that is a different situation in my eyes. I need to have a certain amount of items to sell in my store to keep it going and honestly more is better for sales. I do think as long as items are organized, it is not a bad thing to have a lot of inventory. Some of the top eBay sellers selling a million $ a year have 20,000 or more items...but that is their main income and I am not to that point yet since I am not full time. As you can see I could write a novel about this topic. I know it is very very hard. I just don't' want you to think you are alone or that it's a negative trait to enjoy "stuff" around you. Also, I'm excited to hear about your traveling experiences!

Wow, I just came across your channel today and you are saying exactly what I’ve been thinking. I have too much stuff. I buy stuff and I think oh I can sell this and then I never get around to doing it. I need to declutter because it is definitely a mental block. This video helped me at just the right time! Thank you! I’m so sorry for your loss. I also list my mom 8 months ago and have a lot of her things. It’s so hard to even deal with the loss of a parent. You feel frozen. ❤️🙏

Hugs to you Lori for being so honest and vulnerable with your CZcams family. I am going to follow and be by your side though this journey. I look at my Poshmark room and am so overwhelmed by everything I have purchased thinking “oh, I can sell this” and it sits for months and months. The tears you had during the video was your dad letting you know he is still with you and they are never far ❤️❤️. You got this 🥰🥰

I’m right there with you - I’ve been on a decluttering journey myself over the past few years. One or the ways I get motivated is by watching decluttering videos while I work, so I love that you’re showing this from a reseller’s perspective- I’ve looked and there’s not a lot of that out there! I highly recommend Dana from a Slob Comes Clean & Cass from Clutterbug. They have a course together with the Minimal Mom called Take Your House Back and they do “all day declutters” several times a year - I get rid of sooo much every time! So motivating!

Great video Lori. It takes a lot of introspection to arrive at these conclusions. Having order in your life will also bring order to your mind. The fact that you have come to the conclusion that YOU are more important than buying, thrifting, and "it's all about the business", is definitely life changing and a step in the right direction. We'll be here for you so no need to worry about losing subscribers imo. And don't be afraid to be emotional sometimes. I lost my mom about a month ago, so I totally understand. Hope you have a fantastic trip! My in-laws got married in Tokyo when my FIL was assigned there. And finally, Mr. Lumpy is simply divine!! 😍

Hi Lori! Clearly you've hit a nerve! Lol! I just turned 51 and I can so relate to much of your journey. My motto is 'less stuff, more life'. I KNOW that the excess is weighing me down and like you, it doesn't help that I'm a re-seller and justify a lot of the buying. But the piles and piles of STUFF is weighing me down and keeping me from living my best life. Right now, I am going through my home, room by room and getting ruthless about what I'm not using, wearing etc. I think i need to shed my fantasy self and let go of the guilt of having spent so much on a lot of these items. If you are looking for an accountability partner, I would love to volunteer! You mentioned you're going to Japan! I'm Japanese American and like you, I'm a planner girl! (Currently into travelers notebooks and my A5 Hobonichi techo). I know a lot of the shops in Tokyo if you'd like any advice! Japan is stationery and pen heaven!! In so many ways, I feel like we are kindred spirits...and get this, I have a little cockapoo too! They are the best!

Ok, these are some crazy parallels!! I love your quote about being "ruthless" and "less stuff, more life"!! I'm trying to come up with something like a patreon or zoom chat b/c this seems to have resonated with a lot of people. I'm so touched that so many of us are on a similar path. I think we can help each other! In other news.... I just mapped out my trip to Tokyo last night! Itoya, Tokyo Station, Travelers Factory...I am beyond excited! I'm going to do a LIVE on my second channel (I think this Wednesday) to discuss Tokyo, The Orlando Pen Show and my decluttering journey. I'll post about in on Instagram on both Lori's Boston Found and Time with Tata. I hope you can join us!

My mother moved in with my husband and i and besides a spare bedroom I didn’t have ONE empty closet in a 2,800 sq feet home to give her!! It’s so embarrassing but it made me realize that people are more important than STUFF and I’m determined to live clutter free!!! thank you for all your wisdom and help you give us!! Thank you so much for this Lori. I can completely relate - I am a couple of years older than you and lost my dad to cancer in 2021. When he was sick I kept thrifting but slowed down on selling, and that trend has continued for the past 2 years. My home is overwhelmed with stuff. I think there are a lot of us out here who need “permission” or at least encouragement to let it go. Yes there is a financial hit to buying something and then donating it back, but I’m trying to see it as investing in my mental health. As you said “I’m more important.” And I watch your channel, for you - your positive attitude, your knowledge and your realness. The haul is fun, but not why I subscribe. I would be just as happy watching you (and Lumpy!) haul 5 pieces as 50. And I love the slow fashion Friday idea! Have a great trip to Japan!

I think you're amazing for doing this, Lori! Over the past year that I've taken off of CZcams and reselling, I've really honed in on what's important to me, and downsized SO much stuff. I'd already been through my house and "marie kondo'd" it, but I've really found joy this year in making sure everything I bring into the house belongs, and makes me happy to use, to look at, etc. You're going to feel so happy and unburdened when you're done with this, and I'm rooting for you

The comments show just how much of a COMMUNITY is here. We are all echoing your sentiments it seems! I've downsized twice for local moves since 2020, only to somehow fill my space to capacity again, and now the big and final purge is because I am moving from Seattle, WA to Sydney (Australia) in less than 7 weeks. I only just got my government approval 4 weeks ago and the one-way plane ticket is freshly acquired. I have just that much time to liquidate both my business and personal belongings and the MANY decisions it takes daily is starting to take their toll. It's both freeing and exhausting. I would be very much interested in having relatable videos from you in this time!! I'm making my own so I have my journey recorded as well, something to share and also look back on next year. Imagine a year from now when we can say the hardest part was the doing, but we did it!! Best wishes and thank you for letting us come along!

I am so loving this I am feeling the same way especially leaving a crazy amount of stuff for my grown kids and their families and husband to deal with it . I lost my mom and dad 5 months apart in 2017 . I have so much to list and I have still been going to thrift shop almost daily, I use to shop for myself daily because i was sad we live 15,000 miles away then I started shopping for profit and now i work seasonally at a tax office and flip on the off season. I know I don't even need to shop for more but everyday like clockwork i say just one or two good pieces and come home with a bag full. I don't know why i haven't even listed my swimwear yet and summer is almost over. I will be watching your plan and trying to join with you to get control . I do great selling and have a great closet I am proud of. Guess I really needed to hear this. Thanks Lori for sharing

However in her case I 😂because she was such a comedian I could hear her whispering quit crying and either give those things away or sell them and use the money but unlike your dad my mom was a shopper and I cleared over 10 bags of clothes. That also made me realize that’s it’s ALL stuff so go enjoy the experiences of life Lori😊 as the Bible says tomorrow is never promised

I can totally relate to everything you are saying. I have been selling since 2001 but full time for 5 years now. My death pile is in a 10x12 shed. I’m over having so much inventory and stuff. I have been running sales in my eBay store trying to reduce my inventory. Next week I’m having a massive garage sale when the Biway garage sales goes through our town. Going to empty the shed and sell 99% of it or maybe all of it. What doesn’t sell is going to be donated or just put in the trash.
You see I’m going to be 58 at the end of the month and I’m ready to
Declutter my house and life. I feel like all the stuff makes me more stressed and anxious the older I get. And like you I don’t want to leave it for my kids to clean up. My husband has so much also but it’s all confined out in his garage. He has been slowly getting rid of his stuff also.
I’m going to try to go along this journey with you and even after I purge for the garage sale I’m going to still purge weekly in my house. And try to stay away from the thrift stores and garage sales. And only buy things that I am willing to list as soon as I get home.
    Thank you!

My mother passed away a few years ago and she was a borderline hoarder. We lived about 400mi apart so it never really affected me. But once she was gone, it was a NIGHTMARE doing the clean out. I came back home and immediately started decluttering so that my son won’t go through that. And now I go through my stuff every few months. My space feels so much better in all ways.

What I have had learn is that growth is not necessarily MORE. Growth, for me, is movement forward, letting go,giving away, reorganizing, decluttering, being open to change. Good for you! Best of luck 😊

    Hi Lori
I love the idea of less clutter. The thrifting finds seem to find their way into every area of my home. I definitely went overboard buying at thrift stores and yard and estate sales plus I had a lot to start with. I am very interested in joining you. I buy things because I can but I don’t have a big house and my poor husband has been getting overwhelmed with moving stuff from one place to another. I love being a reseller now that I’m retired but it is so getting out of hand. Count me in to join you on your decluttering journey. It is easier to do these things when someone else is doing it, too. I’m emotional, too. I lost my Dad and Mom and talking about them makes me cry because I miss them. Don’t ever apologize for showing human emotions. You are a lovely and truly genuine person and your true followers all understand. Thank you for doing this.
