Club culture is culture. This is also shown by the Robert Johnson club. Due to its special atmosphere and its special sound, it gets international attention. But despite the global enthusiasm and the enormous economic output, the industry experienced a heavy hit with the beginning of the pandemic. After the forced break, the longing for club feeling, the ecstasy experienced together, is greater than ever. The scene thus proves how indispensable it is.

What is the Techno House Germany series about?
The fascination of electronic music - What is the appeal of club culture and its sound?
People from all over the world are fascinated by German club culture. They travel to Berlin to party to electronic music in an endless night, do drugs and fall into trance states. The attraction lies in the ecstasy, the anonymity and the escape from everyday life. The longing for the club experience is huge, especially now after 2 years of standstill. There are good reasons why Germany of all places has become the center of electronic celebration culture.
Partying to techno and house music is also an attempt to break out of the ordered, heteronormative social structure. If you look back at the origins, this culture emerged in the context of the 80s, the time of neoliberalism, the elbow society. In Frankfurt, the city of capitalism, music and culture are a consequence. The banking city is quickly becoming a Mecca for electronic music. In legendary clubs like the Dorian Gray and the Omen, people dance to the new sound. At the same time, a separate scene is emerging in Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne and Munich. With the fall of the Wall, there is new freedom in Berlin. While more and more clubs were closing in Frankfurt at the end of the 1990s, and culture was bleeding dry, Berlin served the need for freedom and community and enabled an alternative way of life to develop. Millions of people get carried away by it. Subculture becomes mainstream.
We tell the story of electronic celebration culture in Germany through those who have experienced it themselves. DJs, producers and bouncers report in interviews how at the end of the 1980s the first techno and house wave swept through the German metropolises, especially in Frankfurt and Berlin, and pulled a whole generation into the maelstrom until, after a flourishing rise in the mainstream, they found their way into the mainstream experienced decline. And we tell how the electronic celebration culture is rising again today. We accompany DJs who export the lifestyle of electronic party culture all over the world and captivate new generations. Is it the pressure to perform in our society or the increasing digitization of social interaction combined with a two-year break from celebrations?
Together with DJs, producers, artists, bartenders, bouncers and clubbers we explore what makes this culture special.
