    If your truck has got mileage you should budget for ball joints and control arm bushings. It will save you from doing the job twice. Excellent video.

    I don't usual leave comments but I'm from the UK and over here there isn't much info on any American imported vehicles but the guys at Andys Auto Sport have helped me out a lot from watching their videos!

    On the front, strip everything out of your way and loosen the ball joint nuts just a few turns with the spring still applying pressure and rap the steering knuckle hard with a hammer and usually they will break loose without having to use a pickle fork and messing up your ball joint boots. Then use the spring compressor.

    Questions:
    1. Did you not grease the new bushings and spindle when you installed them?
    2. Does the castle nut on the spindle only have a hand tight torque?
    3. What are the typical torque specs for suspension components?
    P.S. I would of cleaned and freshly coated the frame to match your new shiny suspension components to make a super clean look as well.
    Great video. Thanks!

    Generally, the rear will be the same, but the front suspension is usually different and can't be lowered as much as a two wheel drive truck. Thanks for watching.

    they forgot to mention that you need to remove the tow hitch, but other then that very helpful. already installed my 2 in drop shackles, later on I'm gonna swap leaf springs to give it another 2 in, and then spindles. thanks for the video.

    That truck looks good at the end. If it was mine, I'd do a roll pan out back, tint the windows, body color grille with the quad lamp setup and use smoked lights with an HID kit, get rid of the chrome bumper up front and go with a painted bumper and paint it to match, then paint the door handles to match. I see you did mirrors in another episode, I'd paint them to match too. Then take out the factory bench and put in buckets and make a console and a sub box. Oh yeah, and a cowl hood.

    When I'm getting a pickup, I'm bringing it to you. 'Cept I don't want the notch kit. Anything that doesn't require drilling or cutting. Just moderate lowering is good enough for me :) Great video!

    EXCELLENT VIDEO! I've been wanting to get a C/K1500 2wd and lower it for awhile now, I have done a lot of suspension work already but this filled in the blanks on truck lowering.. My granddad had a 1989 1500 that was lowered about 3-4 with a 383 stroker with a Holley 750CFM double pumper, and custom exhaust from the motor back, AMAZING TRUCK and I miss it so much... Its about time to build my own.

    Gotta love a loose pocket! Jk! The only thing, I didn't like is cutting the bed.I would rather grind the"Sandwiches" flush with the top off the rail.Seem like the c-notch should be boxed on the inside with maybe that Sandwich plate.O well great job! I love full size short beds!

  • @robertpatrick5531
    @robertpatrick5531 Před 3 lety

    Even though this video is 8 year old it"s very informative !!!! Great video but one thing that they didn't address was that the rear leaf spring shackles are about 2 inches above the trucks frame so when putting the bed back on it will be 2 inches higher in the back of the bed than the front of the bed and this will eventually cause a hole to be worn through the floor of the bed.

    I'm too much of a perfectionist. I would have to high pressure wash all that dirty chassis stuff. Then spray detergent to all the places the pressure washer didn't clean and put a scotch bright to it just enough to rid the dirt but not enough to invite rust. The high pressure wash one more time.

      @AndysAutoSportTV  Před 6 lety +1

      Usuallly, yes. I'm not 100% sure that that's the case for every truck, but usually the axle will end up right against the frame if you don't do a c-notch, so there wouldn't be any suspension travel out back without one. This is definitely true if we're talking about the '88-98 GM fullsize trucks.

    Great video. Any suggestions on where to find a straight axle lowering kit for a 61 F-100 Unibody? I have a leaf spring kit from eibach for the rear, from a newer truck. I am going to weld in attaching components. What I am having trouble with is a straight axle option. I don't want a new crossmember or contol arm suspension. I think the dropped straight axle would be excellent. Know any suppliers?
