- My best friend and his bird
"Redsquare" . The local name for this kind of seedfinch is "Towa Towa", its the most popular cagebird in Guyana. The good singers are highly prized in Guyana,Trinidad and Surinam. In Brazil these birds are called Curio. My friend's bird is one of the best singers on the East Coast of Guyana.This video was taken on my vacation in Jan 08, in my village of Clonbrook, enjoy.

The Brazilians are breeding these birds,by selectively breeding the best singers their song gets better. In Guyana all the birds are wild caught and as a result in my humble opinion the song is more natural. My hope is in Guyana someone will start to breed them so the wild population will recover.

I recommend a much taller cage with at least one elevated perch so the bird can at least fly a short distance. I've done this for my pair of Asian white eyes and they are much happier and very active.

You can get these in Houston from breeders. Even the asian white eye song birds.

Maybe its just me; but the song is very repetitive and very low in tone. Ive never dealt with this bird as i have been breeding lots of european finches, canaries and various estrilds; but for the most part i still find the goldfinch to be the best and most varied singer of all.
