    One of my uncles was working for a rancher for $7.00 a month during this time. He was twelve. My grandfather promptly collected it every payday. My uncle could drive a buckboard, feed bales of hay (55 pounds), drive the tractor, columbine, milk cows, herded cattle all by himself and lots of etc. All the kids worked and my grandparents had 12. That was in eastern Montana. Once GP and GM went to look at property in the western part of the state and left the ranch in the care of my Aunt (15) and my mother(12) for days. It was 880 miles round trip with a Model T. Can you imagine? And that included taking care of a sick horse that needed medicine put on it's jaw everyday. A stallion! Now, compare them with the kids of today who don't even want to do the dishes and expect to get paid. Wow.

    The fight in the back of the buckboard is hilarious! Their fists don't even come close to the other guy's face. lol Around 30:38 I've got to stop this but it's fun. And he has yet another outfit. The music sure isn't western but I can't think what it would fit for a genre. You?

      This was during the time 1oz $20. gold pieces were being minted. Today an ounce of gold is nearly $2,000., which will buy a pretty nice little ring.

    • @indy_go_blue6048
      @indy_go_blue6048 Před 2 lety

      Using the year 1880 per my inflation calculator that $25 ring would cost $680 in 2020; to look at it another way $0.90 then would buy $25 worth of merchandise today. I assume that's in Federal Reserve fiat money, not in gold.

      Lol, as previously stated... if an ounce of gold was $20 in 1880, the math is pretty easy to figure without a "calculator". How much is an ounce of gold today? See how easy that is?

    I'm trying to figure out the window in the beginning. They put a hole in it to open it to go through. Stick up the old man. He gives the money to the bad guy who has shut the window for some reason and then passes the money through it. Mean time the two bad guys go in the front so why on earth did they need to pass the money out the back window in the first place? I mean they pull out their guns and enter so I think if someone sees them they will know the place is being stuck up. And the one guy who I take it is the bad brother puts on a kerchief but he still has on the same hat and clothes. You can tell a man by his cowboy hat. This is down right silly. I like to watch a movie three way depending on how good/really bad it is. 1. Watch the main characters. 2nd time: watch the extras. 3rd time notice the details. True cowboys would really laugh at the white Stetsons worn for everyday here. If they can afford two, they'd get a darker one for everyday work and second for Sunday. IF they are young and spend their money for looks they might get a lighter colored hat but it usually would be worn for special occasions. Weddings, dances, etc. I feel sorry for kids that are raised on the way Hollywood butchers history and truth. I call it, "Hollywooditis." The reason a cowboy wore a bandana was to keep the dust out of their lungs. Usually when riding drag when herding cattle. Dust storms, etc. And for whipping sweat. It wasn't worn for fashion that I know of. I also have to laugh at this "town" and how many times it's used in JW's pictures of this era. I don't know if it's a back lot or a rented town. And I laugh at John Wayne's wardrobe. That's the funniest of all. Never dirty and different every day. "Dude" is in the right direction for a description of this fashion. 'When they traveled they rolled up their clothes in their blankets and placed them on the back seat of their saddle so you can imagine how pressed they got,. Maybe in their saddle bags. Will have to look that up. Thanks Pizza.

    • @jirivorobel942
      @jirivorobel942 Před 7 lety +2

      Yeah, Hollywooditis. If you haven't noticed, the pictures were very grainy - add some blur from less than perfect cinema setup and there is no way to identify the characters except for their hats. Where do you think the term "white hat" came from?

    • @lancesurgeon7614
      @lancesurgeon7614 Před 7 lety +5

      Songs Mirth - I find it a bit amusing you expect realism from a B movie. They made a couple of these a week so no time work on details. They just changed actors and reused one of standard plots. This was during the depression. Quantity not quality was their goal. The audiences where pretty unsophisticated so simple plot and lots of action. BTW the towns were back lot and country scenes were in the hills around Los Angeles. JW's movies are the ones that survived to make it to CZcams. Sit back and enjoy a bygone era. 8^)
