I worked there from 1970 to 1980.we never call them dope, we loved them they were adults with the mental age and capacity of young children. They called us mami we called them by their first name. They were fed good. Every building had a nurse. In my building that was Beta we used to compete to see who keep them the cleanest. Your bad stories must be before the 70s. Some clients from other buildings used to go to workshops and got paid for it. One of my sisters had permission from one of her assigned clients to take him to Disneyland, he also came to her house and spent long hours with our family. So please try to get more info
I was friends with someone that worked at Letchworth during 7os and 8o.Horriffic abuses and so many even robbed the food leaving even less for residents
I live like 5 minutes away from Letchworth village and my school is right in the middle of it (it's a surprisingly nice school) And everywhere you go there's abandoned buildings
This type of thing is completely awful and should have been stopped sooner. I'm very lucky to be 23 years old right now. I'm legally blind, epileptic, and I'm going to be tested for autism sometime soon. I'd be absolutely terrified at that place.
Damn, you just got me to respect Geraldo Rivera. Nice job.
This is a couple hours drive from me, I might have to check it out.
When I lived in Rockland County I often passed Letchworth. It looked fascinating, so I appreciate more info.
i lived in Haverstraw ny from 91 to 08 also looking for more info
Chris and Christina what a wonderful job !!! This for me is the best one...
I’ve been to that cemetery many times and worked with many of the clients that lived there. Very sad.
And my mom says she wants to go here. I hear *left unclothed. Unbathed. And neglected. Me: wtf hell nah

Haverstraw nyc to be exact i lived close to it from 1991 to 2008 after it closed down i always played in the buildings

There ant no screaming when you dead your dead there nothing left but a hard carcus
It seems as though New York is notorious 4 asylums and there brutality
All these stone buildings should be rebuilt into housing for the homeless.
Tear it down🥲
I think the building materials used would do too much harm to any workers that might demolish it..
I don’t think it’s a scar on the community..
Iv been smh
