4:20 "When a record has a cover like that it's gonna have music inside that I like"
That's exactly how I discovered UMO.
This is seriously one of the best bands of our time.
Agreed
Daniel Maraist damn right they are! I like your style.
Thats a bold statement and a part of me wants to argue against that, but it's true. They're great
You definitely haven't listened to king gizzard and the lizard wizard or thee oh sees if you think that.
Daniel Maraist so fucking true
Laughed out loud when Ruban & Jake pulled out MF DOOM as well. What a legend!
My grandmother and her sisters were friends with Ramesh in Iran. They did her hair from time to time at her peak.
It's cool that they are doom fans
I get prejucide when people listen to DOOM. In the way that I instantly like them more.
@@MrBananun One year later but I've got DOOM tattoed!
ALL CAPS when you spell the man name
name one musician doesn't like DOOM
I was already beginning to be a huge fan...then they revealed they were doom fans, now I'm a fan for life.
thats exactly what I said. haha
Theres always so much love for DOOM on this show
Thundercat also sampled Footsteps in the dark in Them Changes
I like that looking at the 3 of them you can't tell if they're from the 70s, 90s, or 2002.
Who’s who
Yes to Isley Brothers. Footsteps in the Dark was part of my childhood. The jazz records, the Cumbia. I'm dying over here with these amazing selections. No wonder UMO is one of my favorite bands.
They chose the finest hip hop ever.
I was watching this thinking how Wack it would be if they picked out madvilliany and the did I'm fucking dazed
Splodges How the fuck do you not like madvillainy
I didn't know they were such fashionistas
5:53 you made us Latinos proud hahaha!!!
To the dude who picked the Dune record, ironically (or maybe coincidentally?), David Matthews's own Dune record contains a cover of Space Oddity from which the Rapp Snitch Knishes sample came. And that's David Matthews from the 70's not Dave Matthews from the 90's.
I am so lost
Love UMO! Those were really interesting picks.
Yeah init, they seemed so random, which is always good
Finally somebody mentions Wampire! Love them
That Wampire album rocked. Pitchfork music Blows(period.) Ever read an album review without getting spunked on?? I haven't.
Miles Davis and Chet Baker right off the bat??? These guys know their stuff
OMG when he came out with the cumbia record ..
Great artists!💖💥💖
So happy to see Ruban pick a Colombian Cumbia Record!
That Indian baseball cap-like thing, man, where do you get one?!
second this
India 😂
Rapp Snitch Knishes should be played at least once a day, minimum! In another interview, Ruban mentioned he ate a fuck load of bud while writing one morning. I wonder if the Doom album artwork inspired him maybe? Maybe it's the key to being a musical genius?
Met Ruban here in Chicago @ Empty Bottle touring the first UMO album; fun gabbing about early Flying Nun. Wonderful person.
Rad, i wonder what Chris Knox is doing these days..
Adam S Taylor recovering from his stroke....and still being chris knox im guessing
omgggg doom
Good choice with the DOOM
the dude on the right is like Ned Schneebly from School Of Rock
Totally stoked that they all picked a DOOM record
What the floob is that Miles Davis song at the beginning??
Gorgeous
OK I found it. Took two seconds. "Milestones"
What a cool bag
these guys seem pretty cool
did Ruban ask if "ARTPOP" was out on vinyl at the end ?
saw this band with Tame Impala in Berkely on Sep. 3
I wanted to go so bad
Aw, sucks you couldn't go. It was the best concert I've seen in my life, better than The Cure, and better than Depeche Mode (if you don't know them, look them up). Unknown Mortal Orchestra was spectacular. I hadn't heard much of them before the concert, but I really like them now.
I-Review Music Depeche mode is pretty cool. Wasn't UMO playing with Tame Impala in Berkely? That show sounds so fun.
Yeah, they were the opening band
ayy i was there too. greek theatre m8!
that madvillain album... crazy
I was wondering where i heard that isley brothers song then I started singing "gotta think god I don't know but today seems kinda odd" and i was like ohhhhh
i also buy my vinyl by the cover.....i have yet to be dissapointed
Ties the room together! Yay, Lebowski fans
5:50 wow cumbia colombiana! niceee
damn. Ruban is a cool fucking dude
0:08 ned doheny - separate oceans
Cool hat bro
Wait.... There's no female vocalist in UMO??.
Carlos A. Guevara
ffunny ffriends had me guessing too. Also, that song happened to be my introduction to the band.
Jamaal Carrington Dude, Throughout all of "II" (their second album) I thought it was a woman singing. That's crazy lol.
A female vocalist?..... Uhhh..... Y'all don't listen to high pitched male singers very much, do you?
Dune!!! Doom!!! Oooooo!!!!
riley looks like gregg turkington
holy shit. so true
This interview was easily a five-bagger
