    Just 2 weeks ago I was watching this video while crying my eyes out. My cat wouldn't eat, drink, or take his meds and I was sure he was dying. So anyone else in that situation please don't give up! I learned to drop the pill down his throat and blow on his nose to make him swallow. Pharmacy gave me infant/child syringes to force feed him water and wet food. it was horrible and messy BUT guess what?! It actually worked! My cat is back to eating and drinking and playing on his own. So please just don't give up, I'm so thankful I didn't 💕😺

      Decreased appetite for a few weeks and then he went 5-7 days on very little water and not eating at all, so he was treated for dehydration at the vet. Then I did 3 days of force feeding/medicating/hydrating him and then, like magic, he just started getting better. Continued the pill drops and maybe day 4ish he just started eating and drinking on his own...maybe the meds kicked in at that point I don't know. But I can't explain how thankful I am!!

    coming back to this vid tonight.
    exactly a week ago i went here cus he refused to eat, and had been losing his appetite for days. it was the first time he got sick. he was always the cheerful type, always plays around, never stood still. so I took him to the vet 3 days ago and turned out he was sick, like really sick. the vet told me to admit him to the hospital and i did. I got a call this morning, I lost him. it all happened so fast. everything was so fast i didnt have time to process everything.
    I think this is the first time in my life i've ever felt this kind of grief. i wish for you who reads this and all your pets eternal health & happiness. i wouldnt wish anything like this upon anyone. and it hasnt been too long but i already miss him so much. :'( but i wanted to thank you to whoever made this for helping me when i needed it. thank you, please be safe & take care.

    I just wanted to share what a lifesaver this video was for me at a really low point when I was bawling my eyes out and feeling so overwhelmed and alone. I really encourage others who are here not to give up and lose hope. In my case, our 13-year-old male Siberian cat had peed a big puddle outside his litterbox in a place he never had which I realize now was an alarm bell. I noticed for the rest of the day he proceeded to sit perched like a rotisserie chicken for an entire 18 hours without stretching out or moving from that spot and I started to really worry about him. I thought maybe he had kidney stones since he has a history of that so I took him to the emergency vet and they ran blood tests, a urinalysis, and x-rays and the only thing they could tell me was it appeared he was constipated. They loaded me up with meds and instructed me to give him Miralax water, but on day four of no eating and drinking on his own, very little peeing, and no pooing I was beyond stressed.
    That's when I found this video and began force-feeding him wet food mixed with Miralax. I wasn't able to get him to eat nearly enough and he was becoming increasingly weak, but it was enough to keep him alive for the 9 days it took for him to finally pass that stool that was stuck. In those 9 days, he lost 15% of his body weight and without me would have literally starved himself to death, but I kept this hope that if I could just help him pass that poo that he would want to start eating again and my prayers were answered. Immediately after it passed he was roaming the kitchen looking for food and he has turned a big corner ever since. It's been two weeks since he passed it and you would never know we went through this ordeal. He is eating on his own with gusto and is his active self again. With my vet's advice, I am mixing 1/4 teaspoon of Miralax in with his wet food each meal, in addition to the dry food he's eating. When I tried to stop for a while his poo became tiny hard pebbles again with less frequency so I think this is just his new normal to staying regular in his old age. I'm just thrilled to have a working solution when we were so close to putting him down. Keep up the faith. Going through this alone is not easy, but I want you to know your hard work and stress might just have a happy outcome like ours. ❤

      @Snippets-of-Mendi Před 8 měsíci +1

      Two months later and my 14-year-old cat is healthy, eating and drinking better than he has in years, regained 15% of the bodyweight he lost during this ordeal, and is more playful than we have seen him since he was a kitten. Our entire family can see a new spring in his step that he didn't have prior. Now we are realizing he may have been chronically constipated for years. Don't lose hope. There can be light at the end of this dark tunnel.

      @@Snippets-of-MendiYaay! I’m so glad he’s doing so much better. I wonder if pumpkin (plain from can) could work as well, perhaps. And if it’s not already, move his water dish to a different area than his food (and litter). They are said to drink More when the water isn’t by the food. Anyway, what a relief that he has relief 🙃

    • @Snippets-of-Mendi
      @Snippets-of-Mendi Před měsícem

      @@skittles2055 Yes, we keep his water separate from his litterbox. Since my comment six months ago he has had one additional episode after turning up his nose at his wet food for several days in a row (he didn't like the scent of that particular batch by the manufacturer) and then without us realizing it right away (during a busy weekend) he went back to not eating, drinking or moving. However, this time we knew the problem and solution. Luckily my husband wasn't traveling like he was with the first occurrence so we purchased a larger dog syringe and fed him together with one of us holding him swaddled in a wrapped towel and the other doing the feeding with watered-down wet food twice a day. That time he never lost weight and he finally passed the blockage after three or four days of our routine. Now he's doing awesome again. We have learned when he turns up his nose at his wet food dinner in the kitchen, he will often eat it later in the day if we move his rejected food next to his dry food feeder in the laundry room. Since this discovery he hasn't missed a single day of Miralax. I think he's senile and forgets about it in the kitchen and is more willing to eat it regardless of scent when he's faced with the choice between wet food or dry food. I know this is way more detail than you ever asked for, but I figure it doesn't hurt to share our successes for anyone else here looking for solutions.

    My cat Ziggy has been sick for over a week now and hasn't eaten in 6 days (it'll be a full week as of tomorrow) with some sort of flu. All the bloodwork and x-rays came back fine, but whatever this bug is, it's rough! I've had him on an IV for IVF treatment to help keep him hydrated, which I think is the only reason he's still around. Although I knew all of these techniques already (kitty burrito, how to hold them) for some reason I still had to see it in a video to basically reinforce what I already knew and to confirm to myself that what I knew was right. Thank you for making this video, and for whoever else is having issues with their pets - do your best to stay calm, don't give up or get discouraged, and just keep being persistent. @@SharonAbraham-mo7nf I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this. The items can be bought on Amazon and it's called "Nutri-Cal for Cats High Calorie Dietary Supplement, 4.25-Ounce Tube". I mixed this with some simple Friskies wet food patte and put it into a standard syringe you can buy at any local pet store and added a bit of water in order to make it a bit runnier, which made it easier to push through the syringe for Ziggy.
      What really helped my cat in the end, was the IV I got from the vet along with the anti-nausea medication they prescribed for him. The vet told me cats can make it usually 1 1/2 weeks with just water and no food, but much like any animal, they can only go a couple of days without any water. If you can't get food into your cat, then make sure to prioritize the water, and get them to drink in ANY way you can! Please update me on your cat's progression, and if you have any other questions I'll try to answer them to the best of my ability. If your cat won't take water, and doesn't seem to be getting better, please make a vet appointment as soon as possible. I'm rooting for you two!

My cat wouldn't eat/drink and keeps on vomiting for days. We sent him to the vet and our vet gave him IV drip and recovery food. He had to stay at the vet for a few days due to the IV drip. We continue to force fed him with wet food and made him drink using syringe. Now he is back up and running! We were so worried and couldn't find the cause of his vomiting. Our vet just said that he might ate something that irritates his stomach or it could be gastric. Wishing speedy recovery to everyone's cat! Just know that it's important to keep your cat hydrated and if you can't get the recovery food, you can just blend your cat's wet food with water and feed it to your cat. It's okay if your cat wouldn't finish his/her food. Just keep on feeding your cat frequently in small sizes and always make sure that your cat is hydrated. Sending my love to you and your cat

    Thanks for your video! I just adopted a cat from a shelter and it’s my first time adopting and sadly I didn’t have a good experience. The place was really filthy and smelled terrible! But still I figured it would be better to adopt than to buy a kitty.
    And when I met him he was fine and they even neutered him before I brought him home, but now he was an URI and it’s so depressing! Especially because I have another cat that I’m trying to keep from catching his URI! They did say at the shelter that this was a possibility but now I have to deal with him not eating on top of everything else.
    He’s still drinking water, quite a lot of it. But not eating food. I even tried wet food, treats and Churu, but nothing. So now that I saw your video I’m going to try this! I’m also trying to not stress him out more than he already has been stressed out. He’s only been at my place for 1 week now…but he’s super friendly and sits on my lap and tries to snuggle with me! So I’m really hoping I can get him to eat in this way! Thanks again for your video Dr! You’re a godsend! 🙏🏼😻

At the vet, the physical exam reveled nothing, blood tests were all good, x-rays fine--a bit of permanent redness around some gums in the mouth. I did not go for an ultrasound... $400 being too expensive. Been feeding like this for close to 2 weeks: giving three full10-12 ml syringes five of six times a day (3 syringes; 5-6x/day). We'll see. By the way, the vet suspects the possibility of cancer. So I consider this palliative care for now.

    i am using a cake decorator and it's working great. this is an idea if anyone is having a hard time finding a syringe. i'm using the long tip and i am able to put much more food in it. i am also using the magic bullet to blend her freeze dried food after i moisten it.

    My 2 month old kitten is not eating or drinking much and has had two cases of diarrhea in one day. Vomited just a little bit. Taking her to the vet tomorrow but I am gonna try to rehydrate her with this method beforehand.

    Thank you for this video. The Mister and I have been struggling with our Squee Bomb Cat as his appetite changed while he's adjusting to his thyriod meds and new housemates, he won't eat on his own and this made it so much easier for everyone, especially Squee Bomb. 😸

    Thank you for this. Someone abandoned a housecat on our land and we weren't able to catch him. I feared the worst but he's shown up two months later and I was able to get him inside with me, but he's completely starved and not eating or drinking of his own volition. The humane society is closed today, but at least I can get a tiny bit of food and fluid in him this way. Probably going to start with 3 ccs or so and wait an hour and see how it sits. Might just end up feeding him a tiny bit every hour if his stomach can handle it. Poor baby is actually really friendly now that he's safe inside, but I've never seen a living animal so skinny :(

    My vet told me I should never feed a sick cat with a syringe because the cat could aspirate, and this could result in serious complications, such as aspiration pneumonia. This wasn't mentioned in your video.

      This is mostly just squirting the food in the cats mouth then cat can choose to spit it out if they need to you just learn when to push more food in and when to take a break you sometimes HAVE to force feed sick cats or they will die

    i’m fostering a cat right now and she is terrified and hasn’t eaten in 24 hours now. if she still doesn’t come out from her hiding spot by tonight i may have to start force feeding her. it’s my first time fostering and even though i’ve had two of my own cats before, i have no idea how to make her feel comfortable. i feel so bad for the poor baby :(

    Excellent video. My problem is with the syringes. They get stuck and you simply cannot push the food through. Is there a trick to keeping the syringe smooth or lubricated? This is happening with the larger syringes. I have resorted to using a turkey baster and a small version of a turkey baster. Otherwise, I'm having to dilute the food to administer it with a small syringe. If anyone can help...my little girl is hanging on with lung cancer and she is, as of today, not able to eat more than 1 or 2 bites. Thanks

    Took my newly adopted cat to the vet. She had a upper respiratory infection and ate for the first 4 or 5 days I had her then stopped. I took her to the vet and have been having to do this hopefully her appetite comes back.

    That right i use this way too its better and help it get enough portion of nutrition that helps it heals faster/better than cats food and also useful in feeding kittens

    You wrap little fluffy in saran wrap so it won't be able to claw chunks off your arms, pry its mouth open, and use your thumb to stuff some vittles into its throat, kind of like giving a dog a worm pill. Hold its mouth closed until fluffy swallows.

    Thanks for the video 😊 it was of great help. Since i didnt have a syringe i fed him through a spoon. I wrapped a towel around him( remember to clean it after use if your doing without parents) and we opened his mouth with the back on spoon took milk in a bowl and slowly slowly we poured it in his mouth. Remember not to choke him tho 😳 he'll act as he's biting cuz if u put too much he wouldnt be able to swallow it so put small amounts and let it rest 😊 thanks a lot for the video it was helpful
    Edit: my cat was really weak and friendly he's a stray too so it was easy but if your cat is scary rather use a syringe...
