“ Tucker Carlson's arguments are often transparently stupid, to the point where they self-debunk. He is training an audience in the bad faith that Sartre so eloquently described when he wrote that fascists "delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert." It is what modern people call "gaslighting." It's different than lying because liars are often trying to legitimately deceive people about the truth. This isn't about trying to deceive anyone, so much as it's about taking a hammer to the very idea that words mean things, facts matter, and rationality is important. “

Judge Brown was a slap in the face - she likely would have been the first African American woman on the Supreme Court. Reid and Biden also filibustered the nomination of Judge Miguel Estrada, who was eminently qualified and had a great shot at becoming another first. Between 2003 and 2007, Reid and Biden filibustered eight other Appellate Court nominees - which had never been done before - and all had majority Senate support. Yesterday, the new Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer, complained that up until 1981, the Supreme Court was entirely composed of white men, which neglects Justice Thurgood Marshall who began his term on the Supreme Court in 1967.
