It’s hard to believe at times that most of your generation has not heard this wonderful music that we grew up with. We took for granted that it would always be there going forward but alas it is not. We had the best music in the 70’s and 80’s. Thanks for sharing.

I bought this album when it was first released. Didn’t know what to expect. I was mesmerized through the entire album. As I watch the reactions of you young people (I’m 60 by the way) I am tickled to death to see how the reactions are as fresh as I remember mine being. Music today doesn’t compare to the elaborate production and attention to detail that Jeff Lynne envisioned in his music. Your reaction is priceless my friend. Keep ‘Em coming.

I agree with you about the music we had compared to what’s produced now. I always hesitate to be just another older person (I’m 70) saying “They don’t make it like they used to!”, but I’m saying it. There’s just no comparison. Great comment 🌺✌️

That is a taste of why the album, Out of the Blue is a masterpiece. There were some other tunes from this album that tended to get more air time than Mr. Blue Sky, when the album was first released. But in the years since, the song was featured in a few movies and it renewed people's interest. It's as popular today than ever before. It was also voted the most happy or upbeat song of all time, I believe. And it is. It's very difficult to not have a smile on your face and to move along with the tempo during this tune. Simply put, Jeff is a genius.

ELO is so painfully underrated in the pantheon of rock and roll. So far ahead of the game. My guess as to why it wasn't more popular is due to disco being a thing during their most prolific moment in music.
This song gives me a very Beatles-esque feel to begin with, and then blows me away with the arrangement and orchestration. Jeff Lynne is a musical genius, and any of his work is worthy of a reaction IMHO.

Only one comment mentioned ELO's "Time" album which came out in 1980. As the 70's were coming to a close, musical tastes we're changing, so most classic bands were going to be changing if they were going to forge into the new decade. Some took hiatuses until they adjusted. Think 70's staples Yes, Hall & Oates, Heart, Aerosmith, etc. Bands who always embraced change, like Rush, just kept on going. ELO's "Time" switched out the orchestra with state of the art keyboards, but kept the same Jeff Lynne geniusness. I'm sure a lot of their fans that have commented on this reaction haven't given "Time" a real good listen or are really aware of it. Still my favorite ELO album. Jeff pretty much of the rest of his career writing and producing for others, notably Roy Orbison's last album. Roy was able to experience some popularity again before he died in '89. He had been in music hell for 2 decades, unable to record anything that a fair amount of listeners liked (Roy). Plus Jeff and Roy were part of the supergroup "The Travelling Wilburys," making music with legends Harrison, Petty and Dylan. Everything that Jeff works on/with is better for it.

I'm 52. I can't remember a time in my life without this song in it.
If you'd like another song to make you grin ear to ear, try Fishermans Blues by the Waterboys. majestic.

Very underrated band. Great songs but never had a #1hit. Still one of my favorite bands. ❤

In my mid 60"s and got this album when it first came out, love how you react to it considering its now 47 years since it came out.

ELO was a trailblazer on so many levels. Melding a driving rock pulse with the orchestral elegance. So grateful that I was able to attend many of their concerts.

My favorite ELO song! You think a little Beatles influenced? Earliest symphonic rock? Days of Future Passed by The Moody Blues.

If you're having a less than perfect day, I defy you to listen to this song and tell me your day isn't just a little bit better. Even if just for the moment. 😁

I don’t know if you or I had the biggest grin on their face listening- I knew what was coming - but when you had to get up out of the chair, I laughed out loud. Hope you go down deep into the rabbit hole with ELO. And yes a second review to break this all down would be awesome.

You REALLY need to watch this live version: "Jeff Lynne Mr Blue Sky for ' On Children In Need Rocks". There are lots of good live versions, but it is the BEST.

As soon as I don’t see a cloud in the sky in Britain this is the first and only song I want to listen too! One of the only songs where us Brits get to sing about the weather as well as talk about it! I’m so thankful my Mum introduced me to this from such a young age. ❤️

The best version is the one that they did at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with Evil Woman.

Man you gotta treat yourself to listen to all of side 3 as all the songs including Mr. blue Sky are connected-you will be beyond amazed!! Just as Mr. Blue Sky sonically expresses a beautiful sunny day Standin' In The Rain does the complete opposite. to understand the ending of Mr. Blue sky you need to hear all of side 3.

Graduated in 73. Had lots of part time jobs that the majority of money went 6to college, I put aside a bit for me stuff. Me st5uff was a lot of albums which ELO was predominant. Spent hours and hours mesmerized by the music. Even now, Jeff Lynne is the GOAT.!!!
