Instead of complaining about how he changed a few lyrics, why not enjoy the music instead? Maybe he wasn't comfortable with saying either "boyfriend" or "girlfriend", and what's wrong with that?
In the context of the original song when Lady Gaga is talking about her "girlfriend" it's in reference to her best friend. Girls will refer to their friends as "girlfriends". It's in no way political as there isn't really a male equivalent to calling your friends girlfriends or boyfriends. Best friend is what makes the most sense. It has nothing to do with being conservative or liberal. It's about language and how things can be translated differently even when it comes to just gender.
