  • The third movement "Clair de lune" of the "Suite bergamasque" is written in D-flat major and is marked andante très expressif. It's title was inspired by Verlaine's poem by the same title "Clair de lune". The work was published in 1905 and is remembered as one of the composer's most famous piano compositions.
    Extract from Verlaine's poem:
"Your soul is like a landscape fantasy,
Where masks and bergamasks, in charming wise,
Strum lutes and dance, just a bit sad to be
    Hidden beneath their fanciful disguise."
