    Watching this in April 2024 - considering a beginner Tele ... a new/mint DTC 100 with custom neck work, (smoother), new strings, upgraded tuners, gig bag and stand for $175
    Nice review & presentation style (hearing you play! ... hoping I can play the ‘Start Me Up’ riff one day (this year!) on a guitar.

    Thanks for the informative and no-nonsense review. Great playing too!
    I've picked up a few of these -- one on Sunburst, one in Black, and one in White/cream. All for around $100 each on sale. The necks alone are worth the price of admission IMO. The strings and saddles made infurating buzzing sounds, and as I often play unplugged it was driving me crazy. A set of decent strings and modern style brass saddles with string grooves fixed that. $25 total in upgrades, and I polished the frets and conditioned the fingerboard while the strings were off.
    With those minor improvements I find these to be more playable than most Squiers I've tried. Squiers have become wildly inconsistent, whereas my Donners have all been pretty good. I think this guitar is fine for a beginner, but perfect for someone who wants to tinker and mod.

    These really are decent guitars, especially for modding.
    I have two, and am working on both!
    Sunburst like yours, with alnico slightly hot pups and a 4-way switch, and a white one with alnico rail pups.
    Both are works in progress. CTS pots, proper wiring/grounding/shielding, and a Sozo .022 cap with the single coils, and an orange drop .015 with the rail humbuckers.
    Great video and playing, just stumbled upon your channel and subbed!

    Got one yesterday directly from Donner. Looked like some person had almost tuned it, a little sharp, intonation checked the 12th fret, no problem, string height seemed right. Mine was ready straight out of the box. I loved the feedback on the bridge position, just felt right.
    Not fussy about strings, they seem thinner 9 high e strings. I still have original 15 year old strings on my acoustic.
    For £90 it is a steal, using Donner monitor speakers £49. I also have 2 Donner large pedal boards. Though pedal board 2 is a compressor, wool over drive, Ravish sitar going to a Yamaha magic stomp, really not suitable for a pulp fiction tone.
    I also have a Donner interface but having so much fun with my pedal board I have not tried it yet.

    What a coincidence! I just ordered one of these (lefty) and decided to check CZcams for reviews and here you are. My total price with discount code and free shipping came to $112 (no tax ?). So how can you go wrong? Thanks for a great review, Miles. Nice playing and diverse styles. Hope mine has as much red in the burst as yours. Subscribed!

    I bough one of the thinline versions of this guitar a couple of months ago for $115 bucks when they had their 20% off sale and the himbucking pickups in that guitar are some of the best I've every heard. The pickups in the other guitar are easily worth the price of the whole guitar.

    I got a Donner Black Tele. They are definitely punching above their weight. If you want to mod it, it's a great platform, out of the box do a little setup work, and you've got an inexpensive guitar with limitless possibilities. Your review helped me pulled the trigger, Thanks!

    Hi Miles, I am thinking of getting one of these as they are on offer for £99.00, I want a guitar to keep in open G and drop it to 5 strings, do you think this would work well with this Donner mate?

    • @MilesDoesMusic
      @MilesDoesMusic  Před rokem

      Hey Bob,
      It should be fine for what you’re looking to do. It’s a capable guitar, but it’s also a budget instrument so don’t think it’s a secret gem of some sort. It stays in tune but you may want to swap out the pickups/electronics at some point but otherwise I think you’ll be in good shape for what you’re paying for it

    You sound great! I'm a leftyalso but on right handed guitars, so I would have to flip strings and nut. Could that be possible?

    • @MilesDoesMusic
      @MilesDoesMusic  Před 2 lety

      Thank you! And yes, I’d get a new nut made rather than flip it though because the grooves and the height are going to be different going the opposite way but aside from that and adjusting the bridge saddles you should be good to go

  • @OLDGUYSK8R
    @OLDGUYSK8R Před 2 lety

    • @MilesDoesMusic
      @MilesDoesMusic  Před 2 lety

      As far as the pickups, you’ll probably get better mileage out of the squier, but they’ve become very fickle in terms of consistency - some models are great and then others will be ABSOLUTELY terrible so go forth with caution. Worst case regardless of which you choose, you can always upgrade components
