  • Pathologic 2 is an incredible open-world horror RPG that pits you against a deadly plague. The game's tense atmosphere, powerful narrative, and masterful soundtrack all culminate together to create an emotionally-charged and anxious experience that cannot be replicated by many games. It's unforgiving at every turn, and if you're not ready, you will be punished. In this video, I analyze exactly how the game accomplishes its goal to fracture your hope-and what this ultimately means for you as a player.

Thank you all for the support! My channel has been gaining a lot of unprecedented traction lately, and I wanted to open an avenue for extra (monetary) support for those who are both willing and have the means to do so, so I just made a Patreon: www.patreon.com/reginaldwrites . Thank you all again! Many more videos are soon to come.

I will argue about the "poor combat" criticism. First because it's a really small part of the game, but mostly because it's perfectly functional regarding the goal the devs were pursuing. It's not empowering, it's not fun, it's not rewarding. But it would have been a flaw if it had been. As it is, the combat manages to make you feel powerless, and to leads to interesting decisions regarding whether you should risk yourself into dangerous areas (i.e where you could get into fights) or waste time to avoid combat at all cost. If the combat had been predictable, fun, fair and empowering, those aspects would have been lost, and the game would ultimately have been worst. Having a fun combat is by no means a necessity for a video game. It entirely depends on the goal the developers had while creating it.
But otherwise, a great review for a fantastic game, congrats.

      Finally someone told this! 🙏
Artemy is not a fighter, he is a MD. He doesn't know how to fight "correctly". His job is save people, not to kill them. And if you pay attention on multiple tips in narrative design, you will understand that fighting is not an optimal option to survive.

21:30 "Are the people I've saved the people that should remain?" says he, approaching Bad Grief, a former thief and criminal
Me, who likes Bad Grief very much and wasted a shmowder for him: ...why do i feel attacked?

I can't wait for the other two characters to have their playthroughs.... and the amount of great Patholoic content on youtube to come out for it!
In my first playthrough, I was lucky enough to be able to collect a lot of Schmowders and I managed to save almost everyone.... except for Eva Yann, the girl who tried the most to understand and be like the Kin, the people that are immune to the plague, but also the one that might have tried to appropriate their culture. it was painfully ironic that she of all people died in the end.

I'm super excited for the other two characters too! And as to your second part of the comment, that's also what I love about this game--just the different experiences people have because of all the branching decisions you can make.

Great video! Been binging Pathalogic 2 reviews--I haven't played the game (nor have I played games in the last 10 years or so), but I love listening to interesting review/lore videos of interesting games, and this was a really neat take on it.

Big Vlad is not the only one who can take care of workers, or atleast as far the players should know, cause Vlads son exists, and he comes off as way more morally good than his father

True, you don't figure out Young Vlad's role in the whole story until very late into the game

@@ReginaldWrites hey now, I say that cause I just willingly sacrificed Big Vlad to the kin, I don't know anything that could make me regret my decision *as of right now*

@@kve5520 young vlad is incompetent. His father may be immoral af, but he wasn't the one responsible for deaths of the kin in the termitary.
