This was very informative, i'm in my mid 50's and have had RA for 42 years, 8 joint replacements due to the deformities. The knowledge and treatment has come such a long way from when i was first diagnosed which is fantastic to see.
To all the RA specialists, researchers, medical students, GPs , Physios and anyone else involved in making the lives of people with RA easier, i say Thank you very much.

Nicy Nu, I cured my own RA. Its the food we ate that caused the RA.
      1) Avoid carbs and sugar ( It glycate our membranes and cells, and traces of round up chemical end up in our cells, and our immune system attack those)
      2) Avoid all vegetables oils (peanut, canola, corn, grapeseed, flaxseed), because our cells start to incorporate those inflammatory lipid into our cells, and our immune system see it as foreign pathogen. Only take avocado oil, olive oil , bacon grease or beef tallow, because they dont oxidized as much and not inflammatory.
Hope this reach your and cured all your pain. No more RA pain for me since I adopted clean KETO and IF lifestyle.

Thanks for the great video. Keep up the good work! I hope you will do a video soon, explaining why being vegan is a moral imperative because it's great for human health, the environment, and of course, the animals, who are harmed so much in factory farming, terrified and alone at the end of their lives, which are cut short because of humanity's greed. Thank you for considering these points and to all of you who are reading this comment and already vegan.

As a patient with rheumatoid arthritis and as a patient educator (occupational therapist), I LOVE this video, this has the most visually appealing images and clear explanations I have seen! The only thing I would add is to the diagnosis section at 10:22 - it's not only blood work and X-rays, but according to my rheumatology team, the patient's medical history, subjective report and a physical exam are essential for diagnosing. Someone who has seronegative RA in particular may not have blood markers but may still have RA.

Hello. I was diagnosed with RA when I was 44 years old. I am anti-CCP positive, my father had severe RA starting when he was 50 years old and my grandmother (father's mother) was bedridden for 13 years from RA.
Just want to thank you for this video was done very well.
My only advice on this video is to mention that some people with RA do not present as clearly as you describe. I had red, swollen and inflamed extremely painful joints, but they were NOT always on both sides at the same time, especially in the beginning symptoms, this led to a delay in my diagnosis as most doctors are taught that it resides on both sides.
Many times, my flares would start in one joint for about 4 to 5 days, then a few days later show up in the other side's joint and be much less painful/swollen.
Just wanted to add this for anyone who is having difficulty getting diagnosed.
Thank you for your incredible video, so much appreciated!!!

      I feel for you.
Have you ever tried intermittent fasting. Or fasting of any kind? Extended fasting? Juice fasting?
And when eating, Eliminating ALL grains (not just gluten free) and other foods especially Processed foods, refined sugar.
And Getting some good probiotics to heal the gut.
These things can reduce pain and inflammation for some people. It is worth a try.
I have RA. For many years. I've not completely got rid of it. But i do the above things that i mentioned and it does help reduce the inflammation and pain quite a bit. I am still working on healing completely. I'm sure there is more to it and
I am sure for myself personally there's emotional and spiritual reasons as to why I do not always stick with the things I've mentioned.
But I assure you everytime I've implemented fasting, my symptoms reduce significantly.
Recently I had a big flare up.
Really bad. In tears. Hard to walk.
I didn't want to go on steroids which is the usual approach when in a bad flare.
I feel the flare up was due to me basically not taking care of myself properly, eating unhealthily, too much sugar and under a lot of emotional stress. A lot. Maybe there's other reason too. But don't know. It was my first flare in a very long time.
I immediately went to intermittent fasting and cleaning my diet up. Fresh Juicing every day. I did a 40 hour water fast too.
And Taking time to meditate to lower stress.
Within a week the swelling in my knees reduced a lot and the fiery pain all over my body calmed Down a lot too. And 2 weeks on still intermittent fasting, juicing, eating cleanly, only veggies and fruit, some fish, grass fed beef, good fats like olive oil, coconut oil, avocado.
      symptoms reduced even more so.
It is worth a try. Please give it a try.
I am still working on healing completely. I'm sure there is more to it for me to completely heal. But I know we can heal from it. There is an answer.
I do not believe that there is "no cure" as the medical field says.
I hope you find answers and get better.
      Be strong, don't give up.

Drugs can be a life saver for some, I'm not disputing that. But for me and for some other RA sufferers, drug therapy doesn't seem to work enough.
I have been on every drug out there for RA. Methotrexate, Imuran, Plaquinil, gold, remicade infusions, prednisone, on and on etc. And it has never stopped the disease or cured it or give me my life back. I have bad joint damage. I Have always had symptoms. I've had an aggressive kind of RA.

Very clear and comprehensive description of RA. Also, I was shocked to discover that one of the medications (Rituximab) was developed by a company where I served as a cell biologist during its inception!

I have been diagnosed with ra only because I grew a module on a finger joint! But I have suffered years with cramps not only on joints so is this cramping anything to do with ra or something secondary to it?
