Do check out that full video though! Natalie is a great fiddler!
• Natalie MacMaster (Liv... - Hudba
These are hard, joyless days for many. Stop rushing and look folks in the eye. Show mercy to strangers, clerks, broken-hearted.
For sure.❤
Alison Krauss has the voice of an angel. America's best female vocalist!
Sometimes she applies vibrato, but here she does not and her voice takes on a soul piercing purity that makes me shiver.I can listen to her singing forever. I just love Alison Krauss. I know I am not alone.
😇
That is the hardest kind of singing. Very hard to hold a tone without vibrato. She is pure magic.
You are not alone… :)
Beautiful!!!
She does actually use vibrato in two places but very very subtle, which is beautiful
Wow, two treasures Natalie MacMaster on the violin and Alison Krauss vocal solo. What unbelievable performances.
I found this song recently. My heart is very heavy due to my brother’s cancer diagnosis. The state of the world makes my heart and soul cry. Thank you Alison. If I can make it through my grief just one more month❤️
Writers are Gordie Sampson and Fred Lavery both Cape Breton raised Nova Scotians as is Natalie herself. Maritime Canada is a rich source of fiddle music rooted in both Irish and French folk music. I wish composers were automatically attributed in every CZcams clip.
And of course the tune its self was written by Neil Gow, from Dunkeld in Scotland in the 18th Century. Its called "Neil Gow's Lament for the death of his Second Wife" , Alisons singing and Natalies Playing (with the band) just make it there own and take it to another level. Awesome,
This is why she has a billion Grammys. What a talent!
Alison has been my favorite vocalist since I was 12. I’m now 42 and lost my little brother suddenly last October at 38. I’ve always loved this song, but it takes on a whole new meaning when you’re begging to just get through another month so you can “start again” when it comes to trying to be a normal person in the midst of grief.
🫂I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you have lots of love & support around you so that you can get through this difficult time.
Thank you so much. Our dad just suffered a massive heart attack today and is close to being with my baby brother again, which is why I came back to this song and saw your comment. It’s been a rough couple of Decembers, for sure. 💔
Very sorry for your profound loss. I find this helpful in grieving: "Grief is just love with no place to go." Hope your New Year is full of love. Celebrate your brother and yourself amidst the grief. Alisons angelic voice and words here hopefully help. She gets me through lots.
Her gentle approach to some of these songs is breathtaking..
My beautiful Mother was hospitalized Dec 1st and died Dec 25th. The grief returns with December, every. single. year... May the beauty of this music bring us all, comfort and peace during this sometimes difficult Season. Be kind.
the sweetest voice ever heard in my life!!
Doesn't get much better than Natalie and Alison. Natalie's husband and kids are all fiddle top notch players too.
Allison finds Natalie quite amusing! She's our treasure of Cape Breton Island and she doesn't stop moving while she plays. Check out her videos and those of her family performing.
We can see why she is a treasure. She's INCREDIBLE!!
her voice can move my soul of that i am sure
Warms the soul. I am not a religious person, but these sounds beckon my heart and mind. Grace.
Proof that perfection is possible.
Ive been a MacMaster and Krauss fan for a long time, had no idea that they ever played together , beautiful song.
Alison’s voice can make one’s soul fly. So innocent and pure.
two of my favorite fiddlers together!
I'm an old geezer and l have been a fan of AK since 1988 collected all her music
Perfect pitch and perfect breath control... angelic.
Perfect 👌 👌
What I liked in this video is the respect Alison gives natalie as she is plying her violin parts. Watching her, standing still , very nice.
The best thing about this video other than the big talent, is that Natalie is ours! Yes, Nova Scotia. What a big treat to see these very gifted musicians! WOW!!
I THINK THAT ALISON KRAUSS PLAYS AND SINGS THE BEST VERSION OF THIS SONG -- I LOVE THIS SONG !!!!!!
We are very lucky Alison is from a time of high quality recording.
The violin at the end was breath taking, took me to another place. simply magical.
Celtic soul. It doesn't get more beautiful.
Two great talents that should have been together all along. Celtic magnificent.
the finest singing and fiddle i have ever heard. 2 great girls. I keep saying the greatest and then there's this OMG, Were souls have been lost and the walking wounded go . 7 minutes of my life made beautiful.
Natalie sure does a beautiful job on Neil Gow's Lament.
My favorite singer and my favorite fiddler together. Such bliss.
My favorite singer And favorite fiddler are the same person. Perfect!
I fell great sorrow for those who have not discovered music. It helps me everyday to get through this covid madness.
Best to all, stay safe and my most respectful condolences to all who have lost loved ones.
I can only say WOW, she never has let me down, FABULOUS. What a song for this year 2020
Googled NM and what a pleasant surprise to see Alison Krauss singing
A sweeter voice you'll never find !!! Pure perfection !!!
Obviously I agree none sweeter but there are some voices equally sweet to be found.
For me Zhou Shen is one such a voice czcams.com/video/zcP1bNHdTSQ/video.html
Loved her voice from the first time I heard her. Melodic
This got me through intense pain & my divorce. Thank you !!
I hope things are better for you, I am just starting to go through that pain and this has helped.
Oh my goodness such beautiful fiddle at the end. Beautiful
So nice to see here step back and let Natalie take the lead violin in the song. That is the definition of grace.
Spot on. I thought the same thing. You don't often see that with many stars.
Actually Alison was a guest on Natalie's show. Not that Alison isn't a graceful musical partner but in this instance...not much to do with grace.
Two ladies absolutely overloaded with musical talent.
Natalie Mac is a fiddle goddess.
Alison so sweet, a voice , a travel...
She has the sweetest voice ever known!! - Lovely is the word for her!!!
She has one of the sweetist voices of all time. It touches your very soul. Pure joy to hear her sing. Love this lady. 🤗🎶🎵😍
This is a wonderful performance - two great musicians combining their talents to create a masterpiece.
A melody that sounds like a Scottish folk song! Love it
So many lessons from Alison...beyond music. Just watching her performances with others, listening to other professionals talk about her, seeing the number of professionals who want her, reading articles and comments from ordinary people--she is an incredible person. I'm watching her watch Natalie....full appreciation. For Natalie's story to happen, it means that when she met Alison at the workshop, Alison didn't competitively size up Natalie and say something like "I sing too".
We need to implement a class in our school curriculums and call it "Alison 101".
Well put! She is an all around Class Act!
This ☝....💯
I know there are great singers but none I know of can move my soul like AK. She is extraordinary gifted!
My daughter plays fiddle and we've seen Natalie so I wanted her to hear Alison play, I searched Alison Krauss playing fiddle and this video popped up.
Unfortunately she doesn't play in this video but here's one of Alison playing..14 year's old. Hope your daughter will enjoy!

Wow - amazing, fantastic - mere words are adequate.
So fucking incredible! And i heard it for the first time ever on feb 24, 2021.
Thank you Allison! Youve been my female inspiration for several years
Hope you see this msg girly. Love your style
My favorite female singer! She never disappoints.💕🎄💕
Absolutely an appropriate song for December 2020!
I agree 100%
And 2022
The perfect antidote to 2020!
Voice of an angel...
This song makes me cry, but I am hopeful. I just lost my beloved wife in October. Now picking up the pieces, first Christmas without her in 20 years.
(hug)
So sorry for your loss.😞
Tears can quench the horrid flame of loss...
There are no words that can describe it. ❤️
Just beautiful especially seeing this during COVID pandemic 2020!
Oh My Lord........Angels Are Here On Earth, ......If Not, I'll Just Hear What Alison Has To Say, Until They Arrive....She Is Great !!!!
From the first time I saw Alison at a local festival I knew she was bound for greatness. At the time she was about 14 years of age but a pro already!
Ya. I saw her ??? anyway must have been opening for Emmylou Harris? I know I learned of Nanci Griffith opening for Emmylou at the Capitol Theatre, Concord NH. I don’t know who was headlining when I heard Krauss the first time. A very long time ago but still awe inspiring to listen to today.
Beautiful singing and beautiful music from Natalie MacMaster and her violin..both are magical!
indeed
A brilliant tune with incredible violin playing and soul touching vocals by Allison!
Thank You to both of you, absolutely beautiful!
Another collection of Nova Scotia's talent. Miss Alison is quite comfortable with all...
Thanks for the music. Watching in Vancouver B.C.Canada! I have danced to Nathalie's music live here.
never heard her do this song. it's beautiful...
🙏what a 🤩 voice
Ive heard that song before but this time brought tears. Get me trough Decenber has become get me through September . Its snowing amd cold in Calgary amd I miss the East Coast, its people, places and its music.
I have been listening to Alison Krauss for decades, but I am still astonished by her voice, which sounds almost unearthly.
Simply beautiful performance by both ladies.
This song has been special to me since I heard Natalie MacMaster sing it. Incredibly moving and heartbreaking violin. Made my day seeing this live version with Alison Krauss, amazing duet.
Best voice ever for me!
The words in the song are a healing balm to my soul 🔥
Alison Krauss was my favorite female singer for many years!
This is what happens when great songwriting from Gordie Sampson, Cdn, is brought to life by two incredible artists who both know what to interpret a song. This is one of my fav tunes, not overdone, Alison knows how to let a phrase breathe and give the song its own life. Natalie of course is just a phenomenal fiddle player and does Canada 🇨🇦 proud. Just perfection.
TEARS , TEARS. TEARS....SO PROFESSIONAL, SO BEAUTIFUL...THIS LADY SINGS LIKE THE ANGELS IN HEAVEN....TKS. GOD...
How sweet it is ! ! !
I imagine this is the sound in heaven!
both are in every sense of the word Artists !!! BRAVO
Simpy exquisite voice, beauty, musician -Alison Krauss is the entire package.
TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU BRYN ,RAY TWELVE STRINGS U.K
I think I'll make it now. Thanks to you both
Love Alison, beautiful in every way. Rare to see her on stage without a violin in hand. I put my headphones on, close my eyes and let her voice take me away to a wonderful place in my mind, total relaxation. I haven't seen this before so thanks for the upload. Atb
+Jeff Alfresco I had not seen this until today either Jeff. Somebody uploaded it today in poor and distorted quality but that video was linked to a longer one of Natalie MacMaster. (Which unfortunately doesn't show up in searches for Alison Krauss).
Though I enjoy Breton fiddle myself, I don't think everybody does. For convenience sake I therefor cut the Alison part to upload separately.
All credit though for this being up on youtube in the first place go to the uploader oneloveinus. :-)
+reddragonready Yep cheers for that mate, just watched it 🎻😊. I'm with you on the Breton fiddle. Atb
"Something else entirely" Lol.
You always get one....
Jeff Alfresco
LOL You always do...but I never keep them. ;-)
So beautiful, the song gave me chills.
Omg i love this song. Alison Kraus is what heaven sounds like
Faith can move mountains. Lovely song🥰♥️
I'm pretty sure it won't, usually tectonic plate shifts only really do that. But the music is awesome.
Hahaha Love that reply!
She is so talented
The word Sublime isn't enough
Excellent performance!😊
The most beautiful song I've heard in a while. It perfectly expresses my December blues.
Beautiful quote from NM at end, of Gow's Lament for his second Wife. Sweet voice, sweet fiddle, great performance.
She's absolutely perfect!
This song got me through a bad relationship. It contains such hope for the future! Thanks for the song that helps me through bad times.
She has the voice of an angel I’ve never in my whole life ever heard anyone come close to the beauty she has a truly respectful woman that brings the song to the table better than anyone possibly could she is totally amazing I’ve listened to a lot but no one even comes close to the angelic sound of this voice she is truly remarkable
Obviously a huge fan of her myself but she is not alone in having an angelic voice..Check out Zhou Shen! czcams.com/video/HMWyN68VpSU/video.html
This is part or why Christmas and seasons make Canada strong don’t forget we are a nation of strong endurance:)
WOW, absolut beautiful, the best of. The Voice of the Century, Alison
"She sings?" (understatement of all time)
LOL!! Yeah. I've gotten to see her and Union Station in concert a few times. Besides her angelic voice, what a fiddler, and a great sense of humor, too. If you ever get the chance to see AKUS is concert, don't miss it!!
Oh yeah, and she's gorgeous, too!! I'd be in love if I wasn't old enough to be her g'pa!!
😄
This song is an ethereal experience! Wow!! Angelic seems like too small of a word to describe the vocal quality Alison possesses.
Just get me through December!
I just LOVE this collaboration of Natalie and Alison, and what a song! They are simply phenomenal together. As I watch again, I get goosebumps again.
What wonderful renditions of a message which truly resonates in so many communities
