    I have one of these engines. I found the engine started to bind up after several hours of use. I removed the cylinder and head. It seems the cross hone pattern was polished like a mirror. It had four O ring piston rings. The two inner rings were not getting any oil, causing the engine to bind up no matter how much oil. I removed the two lower rings, and now the engine runs fine. I spray some WD-40 on the back of the piston from time to time, using the straw applicator. The top ring is oiled by the fuel mixture, the lower by the WD-40. Four rings it seems are too many. The engine still has no blow by leakage.

    In slow motion, it sounds like a full size gas engine that’s preserved near to where I live!

    I bought this engine from Stirlingkit, it took a while to arrive. Box was pretty damaged, and a corner of the wooden mount was exposed from the box. Corner had some damage, but the rest looks ok, the wooden mount has a pretty rough finish anyway. So, I’ve took the engine, and cooling tank off. Resanded it, and have put on a fresh coat of urethane. Should look good when remounted… thanks for you review.

    I'm definately getting one for Christmas.. I just hope I can slow it down, without sooting up the plug!
    P.s.- your garden is beautiful!

      When you slow it down, I recommend restricting the air flow and fuel flow. This is better than running it too rich. See this here: czcams.com/video/EgbrZRXp2K8/video.html

      @@reddrryder yes, bit where do you restrict the fuel?
      Airflow is obvious, but I cannot see any way you can restrict the fuel..

    Great video, I've been looking at that engine on StirlingKit and am very tempted. I think this video might push me over the edge! I'm wondering if changing to a "real" carburetor, with a throttle would make it possible to run it slower?

      I am certain that will work and I plan to try it myself.

    Thank you for the video. I’ve purchased one of these it came and it’s run great but for some reason the little connector arm that holds the two valve rockers came loose so I removed that piece tightened it back up and reinstalled. However, the engine won’t run at all now and I’m sure what the issue is. The timing is offwhich is causing it to run if you have any suggestions on how I can get the timing back in line, I would surely appreciate it

    I placed an order for this particular machine a couple of weeks ago, from EngineDIY and I am waiting for delivery. Just three questions based on your experience: 1) Do you use gasoline out of a gas station or special kind of fuel, like Zippo lighter fuel for example, based on naphtha? 2) What kind of lubrication for the cylinder do you use? 3) What kind of lubrication do you use for the moving parts (axles, rods, shafts, valves, gears etc)? Thank you in advance.

    • @reddrryder
      @reddrryder  Před rokem +1

      I never use automobile fuel. It has ethanol and lots of poisons designed to be pushed through a catalytic converter at 1400 to 1800 degrees.
      I use Coleman fuel (naphtha based) or 94 octane pure gas such as ethanol free yard tool fuel. I mix it 20 or 25 to 1 with Marvel Mystery Oil. You can use 2 cycle oil also. Sometimes I will get pre mixed 2 cycle gasoline at 50 to 1 then add Marvel Mystery oil to make it 25 to 1. A little too much oil is cheap insurance.

      @@reddrryder Thank you for your answer. All the brands you mentioned are within the states. I live in Greece, therefore I have to find the equivalent in Europe. Nevertheless you have been very helpful and I appreciate that. I subscribed to your channel too. Be well.

    Where does the cylinder get its lubrication?
    I notice there is no drip oiler!

    • @reddrryder
      @reddrryder  Před 2 lety +1

      Doesn't need a drip oiler. I use a 20 to 1 mix of Coleman Fuel (white gas) and that gives plenty of lubrication for the piston and o-ring. Before the first run, I tilted it up, spark plug toward the ground, and oiled the piston skirt manually. While it may not be necessary, a little extra oil is cheap insurance.
