Some of the other similarities between Tamils and Koreans are
    Food & Dishes:
    1) Pongal - Yaksik
    2) Oorukai - Kimchi
    3) Pidi Kozhukattai - Songpyeon
    4) Oputtu - Hotteok
    Art, Music, Games:
    1) Ariro Ararariro - Arirang (Sung as lullabies for babies)
    2) Kummi - Ganggangsulle
    3) ila vatakal - deuldol deulgi
    Traditions:
    1) Tamil Traditions - Korean Shamanism Traditions (Similar)
    2) Manivizha - Hwangap
    3) Nadukal - Koindol
    Women, Fashion, Beauty:
    1) Pottu - yeongjigonji
    2) Nethi Chutti - Jokduri
    3) Poo jadai - Dodeurak Daengii
    Other Similarities:
    1) Twin Fish Symbol (Ancient Pandiya kingdom Flag - Korea Twin Fish symbols)
    2) Woman Diving Mermaids - Jeju - Rameshwaram
Although these are just a few among a lot of other similarities, the two cultures and people have definitely been connected since ancient times when we look at the striking similarities which would only be possible by close ties and cultural exchanges. We need to fund more in this area of research.

In ancient time Koreans used Chinese charcter(only character, not language. like some countries use english alphabets even though they don't speak English) to write down Korean. Korean words which sounds similar to Tamil have been used before the creation of Hangul, so Tamil and Hangul aren't related.

On observations...I think most of the languages shares common words for the same thing. Appa n amma(Tamil) or ima(Manipuri), papa(English) or ma(hindi) or Abba(urdu) or baba(hindi)...also I think ...ma and pa or ba is universal thing when it comes to calling father n mother...also its very natural instinct of human and there is human psychological idea behind it. Like a baby's 1st ever slang that comes out naturally is ma..bcos at sucking stage..a baby's mouth is always at mother's breast...which results in 1st using the slang ma...bcos sucking requires our lips to come in contact to eachother. Like kissing
